The Helen Devos Children's Hospital Healthy Weight Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan treats patients ages 2-18 years old who have been referred due to excessive weight gain or a BMI in the 95th percentile or greater. The interdisciplinary staff includes pediatricians, a psychologist, exercise physiologist, dietician and social worker who work to treat medical issues and adopt healthy habits. The clinic partners with the YMCA to offer the NEW ME program, a 14-week exercise program that teaches patients and families fitness, nutrition and builds confidence in exercising independently. The interns lead classes and activities to improve physical health and provide knowledge for lifelong management.
