MyApp provides JavaScript best practices including:
1) Using namespaces to avoid naming collisions and define packages like MyApp.string.utils for reusable functions.
2) Branching code during initialization or lazily on first use to handle browser differences efficiently.
3) Passing configuration as an object instead of many parameters to simplify function calls.
4) Defining private methods and properties using closures to encapsulate code.
5) Employing self-executing functions for one-time initialization tasks.
6) Allowing method chaining for readability when calling several related methods.

Ember applications are built around an MVC model that prescribes Models, Views, Controllers, and Routes for managing persistence, DOM, application state, and URLs. In an ambitious enough app, that model may fail to cover the whole problem space. Fear not, for in this presentation you will learn how to use Ember’s container and dependency features to move beyond MVC, as well as learning how they tie Ember internals together.

JavaScript Module Patterns: How to build and use JavaScript modules. We cover the Basic Module Pattern, Revealing Module Pattern, CommonJS, AMD, CommonJS, UMD and ES6 modules.
As a guest speaker in NCU, I gave this second talk about some more advanced practices of JavaScript programming. It summarised our experience learned from developing Mozilla/Gaia project, including the way to deal with asynchronous code flow with the event-driven model.
This was a talk given at Django District in March, 2016. It goes over the general gist of how to integrate Django Rest Framework with React and Redux. It also includes a github repo with working code, including using Webpack for Hot Reloading and Redux Dev Tools for time traveling state.
Callbacks, Promises, and Coroutines (oh my!): Asynchronous Programming Patter...Domenic Denicola
This talk takes a deep dive into asynchronous programming patterns and practices, with an emphasis on the promise pattern.
We go through the basics of the event loop, highlighting the drawbacks of asynchronous programming in a naive callback style. Fortunately, we can use the magic of promises to escape from callback hell with a powerful and unified interface for async APIs. Finally, we take a quick look at the possibilities for using coroutines both in current and future (ECMAScript Harmony) JavaScript.
Good karma: UX Patterns and Unit Testing in Angular with KarmaExoLeaders.com
If you listen to backend developers, they will tell you that writing unit tests is essential to good karma. Pay it forward with tests and get back a reliable application. But getting unit tests running on the front end in a “real” application can be a lot more challenging. This intermediate-beginner level workshop will cover how to get setup for writing unit tests, and how to write front-end and end-to-end oriented unit tests for a variety of use cases all for AngularJS. We will work from a series of use cases, transform those into formal acceptance tests, write failing unit tests and then resolve those tests writing code with Angular, html/jade/css and node.

Even nowadays, PHP code is mostly manually audited. Expert pore over actual code, in search for bugs or code smells. Actually, it is possible to have PHP do this work itself ! Strengthened with the internal Tokenizer, bolstered by the manual, it is able to scan thousands of lines of code, without getting bored, and bringing pragmatic pieces of wisdom: official manual recommendations, version migration, code pruning and security. In the end, it deliver a global overview of the code, without reading it.
We've all been faced with legacy code and often decided to rewrite, feeling it will be easier. There are many reasons this can be wrong. Adam Culp will talks about the entire journey of refactoring a legacy code base. He will begin with assessment and why, move on to planning how and when, cover execution and testing, give step-by-step examples, and even show how to manage the process effectively. Attendees will gain insight and tips on how to handle their own pile of code and refactor happy.
Component Based UI Architecture - Alex MoldovanITCamp
My talk will be mostly oriented towards the JavaScript ecosystem and the modern frameworks that enforce a component based approach towards building your UI. I will try to speak a lot from my recent experience with React.js and if time permits, I will demo some smaller apps just to show everyone how easy it is to play with React.
We all know that web performance optimization is becoming critical to the success of web sites and applications. The problem is, we often don’t have the control over the UI Architecture (“middle-end”) that we need to really make things better.
We’ll talk about how to use JavaScript (client- and server-side) to revamp the middle-end so we can throttle web performance (and code maintainability) to the next level.

Code formatting is an opinionated beast. It always has been a matter of taste, and it always will be a matter of taste. This is the reason, why professional formatting tools, such as Eclipse JDT, offer a gazillion number of options. Which is still not sufficient enough. After all, you can override them inline with tag-comments to make the formatter shut up. Can't we do better than that? What if we could use machine learning techniques to detect the preferred code style that was use in a codebase so far? Turns out, we can.
The Antlr Codebuff project (https://github.com/antlr/codebuff) offers a generic formatter for pretty much any given language. As long as a grammar file exists, existing source can be analyzed to learn about the rules that have been applied while writing the code. Those can than be used to pretty print newly written code. No configuration required. And existing sources will stay as nicely formatted as they are. In the end, the primary purpose of code formatting is not to re-arrange all the keywords, but to make the source layout consistent.
In this talk, we will demonstrate the usage of the codebuff project and how it can be used to format the sources of your repo in a consistent way. We'll also show some other gems that have been revealed when toying around with the technology.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

4. Introduction: What will we cover today?
• Coding patterns
JavaScript-specific best practices
• Design patterns
Language independent patterns, UI architecture
14. Tip of the day
“Branch some parts of the browser-specific code
during initialization, when the script loads, rather
than during runtime to avoid performance hit.”
18. Tip of the day
“The lazy definition pattern is very similar to the
previous init-time branching pattern.
The difference is that the branching happens only
when the function is called for the first time.”
22. Tip of the day
“Instead of having many parameters, you can use
one parameter and make it an object.
The properties of the object are the actual
parameters.”
24. Configuration object: Usage of configuration object
var MyApp = MyApp || {};
MyApp.namespace(quot;domquot;);
MyApp.dom.Button = function(text, settings) {
var type = settings.type || 'submit';
var font =settings.font ||'Verdana';
//..other props
//some code here
}
27. Tip of the day
“Use local variables and methods inside a
constructor to achieve the “private” level of
protection.
Use naming conventions _doInternalOperation to
show that the function is private/protected.”
28. Private methods and properties: Private method
var MyApp = MyApp || {};
MyApp.namespace(quot;domquot;);
MyApp.dom.Button = function(text, settings) {
//..process properties
function setStyle(element, settings) {
//setting style to element
};
var button = //...
//..
setStyle(button,settings);
this.clone = function() {
var clonedButton = //...
//...
setStyle(clonedButton, settings);
}
//some code here
}
40. Unobtrusive JavaScript: Separate JavaScript functionality
<a onclick=quot;doSomething()quot; href=quot;#quot;>Click!</a>
<a href=quot;backuplink.htmlquot; class=quot;doSomethingquot;>Click!</a>
$('a.doSomething').click(function(){
// Do something here!
alert('You did something, woo hoo!');
});
41. Unobtrusive JavaScript: Never depend on JavaScript
<script type=quot;text/javascriptquot;>
var now = new Date();
if(now.getHours() < 12)
document.write('Good Morning!');
else
document.write('Good Afternoon!');
</script>
<p title=quot;Good Day Messagequot;>Good Morning!</p>
var now = new Date();
if(now.getHours() >= 12)
{
var goodDay = $('p[title=quot;Good Day Messagequot;]');
goodDay.text('Good Afternoon!');
}
42. Unobtrusive JavaScript: Never depend on JavaScript
<a href=quot;javascript:window.open('page.html')quot;>my page</a>
<a href=quot;#quot; onclick=quot;window.open('page.html')quot;>my page</a>
<a href=quot;page.htmlquot; onclick=quot;window.open(this.href)quot;>my page</a>
<a href=quot;page.htmlquot; class=quot;popupquot;>my page</a>
//some java script to open element with class quot;.popupquot; in a new window
