GDPR – A Business Opportunity not just Compliance
• The importance of creating a data confidence culture
– Building data confidence is key to organisations as it’s predicted that effective data usage will benefit the UK economy
by up to £241 Billion between 2015 and 2020.
– Loss ofCustomer Trust is viewed by organisations as a much larger problem that the potential fines.
• “76% of organisations have an expectation that their Cloud provider will take care of all data privacy and
compliance requirements
• Cloud providers have a duty to ensure they keep data secure and available but the ultimate responsibility of
maintaining a compliance position against regulatory requirements lies with the organization that owns the
information. Enterprises are the data controller, and they must comply with all the obligations that GDPR
requires”
• Information and Data is generally viewed as an organisation’s most valuable asset so using it
effectively is key to business growth.
• This is a great opportunity that organisations can take advantage of by creating data-centric
business models and leveraging data protection and governance as a competitive advantage.
• GDPR and the UK Data Protection Bill create a highly visible measurement of the commitment of
an organisation to data governance and how effective it’s strategy and controls are.
