January 2016 RSVP Messenger Newsletter
1. RSVP MESSENGER
According to World Volunteer Web (2005), “volunteering
has a positive impact on our community, but did you
know that it has many benefits for you too? Here are
some reasons to volunteer:”
• Volunteering brings the opportunity to discover
something you are good at and develop new skills.
• When you volunteer, you connect with your commu-
nity and give back to society some of the benefits
that have been given to you.
• As a volunteer, you make the choice to give your
time, energy and skills on your own accord.
• Volunteering is a great way to explore new fields
and expand your work portfolio.
• Through volunteering, you may find new interests
and hobbies that can strengthen your own personal
mission and expand your horizons.
• By doing hands-on work a volunteer will get real
world, life experience.
• A volunteer often times works with a diverse range
of people and learns about people from all walks of
life, different environments and professions.
• People are interested in your extra-curricular activi-
ties and volunteering shows your commitment and
dedication to what is important to you.
Welcome to our first edition of
RSVP Messenger!
We hope that you will find it informative, inter-
esting and beneficial to your individual needs.
Our goal in publishing this newsletter is to
keep you up to date on what we are doing at
RSVP, and provide information related to top-
ics of interest that apply to our mission.

New mini-van to improve
transportation service
Susan Haas, Nevada Rural Counties RSVP
Executive Director & CEO has announced that
thanks to a new grant, the Humboldt County
RSVP program will begin the New Year with a
new transportation program van! This will ena-
ble us to serve our transportation clients in a
safe and comfortable manner. We could use
some members for what we are affectionately
calling, our Van Haulin’ transportation team. If
you have a valid driver’s license, a safe driving
record and some time, your community can use
your help. Contact Janet Vaughan, RSVP Vet-
erans VIP Coordinator at (775) 375-5030 or
Brian Nelson, RSVP Field Representative at
(775) 304-0757, to complete an application or
ask questions about how you can join us.
Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth
who reflect this nation's compassion, unselfish caring, patience,
and just plain love for one another.

Veterans-In-Partnership (VIP) Program Intelligence Report
RSVP’s Veterans VIP program is a volunteer program that offers Veterans access to resources and services in the com-
munity of which they may be unaware. We want our local Veterans to know what programs and services are offered and
might be useful to each of their individual situations. We also want Veterans to know that they are needed as volunteers,
helping one another. The RSVP program offers transportation for Veterans to get to and from medical appointments as
well as respite care for those who need regular breaks from the sometimes overwhelming stress of 24/7 care of loved
ones. RSVP also offers a home companion program, resistance training exercise program and more.
RSVP’s Veterans VIP program is here to empower Veterans in the community
in the best way we know how: People helping People. Let’s lend a helping
hand and together we will make a better life for one Veteran at a time. Working
together we are stronger and can truly make a difference.
We are in the process of getting those interested in being members of this pro-
gram certified as Nevada Veterans Advocates, through the State of Nevada.
Janet Vaughan (LSW) has already obtained her certification. This is a online
course of instruction and available to anyone with the interest on motivation to
help our veterans.
If you would like to participate in RSVP Veterans VIP
program as a client or a volunteer, please contact
Janet, VIP Coordinator at (775) 375-5030 or email:
avista2@nvrsvp.com. For more information about all
of RSVP programs and services visit

The truth of the matter is that you
always know the right thing to do.
The hard part is doing it.
