SUCCESSFUL APPRECATION EVENT
On Tuesday, September 11th
, over 250 YWCA-RSVP volunteers at-
tended a special appreciation brunch at Calvary United Methodist
Church in Normal. The
event featured a delicious
omelet bar courtesy of Lu-
ther Oaks, and entertain-
ment provided by 30 Fin-
gers. Twenty-six agencies
were on hand to showcase
their services, and the Com-
munity Health Care Clinic
offered free wellness
checks.
The appreciation event rec-
ognizes the valuable ser-
vices that YWCA-RSVP
volunteers provide over the
year. Your volunteer service over the past year has saved non-profit
agencies in McLean County over $1.6 million dollars. Many agencies
have expressed their sincere gratitude for these services, and are able
to expand their mission through your assistance. Your volunteer efforts
truly make a difference in the lives of so many people in McLean
County!
RSVP Volunteers make a “cheers to volun-
teers” in remembrance of those who served our
county on September 11, 2001.
SUSAN FREEMAN
SHIP VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to volunteer SHIP
Counselor Susan Freeman for being
honored as the 2012 SHIP Volunteer of
the Year! Susan was nominated by
RSVP and recognized for her award at
the SHIP Conference at the Springfield
Hilton Hotel this past September. Since
2006, Susan has dedicated over 400
hours of service to the Senior Health
Insurance Program. Congratulations!

MEET THE RSVP VOLUNTEER OFFICE STAFF
Ever wonder who is calling you to fill
those short-term volunteer assign-
ments…or who enters your volunteer
hours after you submit them? Meet our
RSVP office staff of volunteers!
Joan Moews – Joan volunteers on Mon-
day mornings making short-term phone
calls. She retired as a credit union man-
ager and currently also volunteers at Ad-
vocate BroMenn Medical Center as a
Surgical Hostess. Joan has been with the
RSVP office staff for 5+ years.
Jane Hagglund – Jane volunteers on
Monday afternoons entering hours as
one of our statisticians. Jane volunteers
for many short-term assignments, is an animal lover and keeps the RSVP office up to date on
hour collection and submission throughout the winter months.
Karen Weyhrick – Karen spends her time with RSVP on Tuesday mornings making short-term
phone calls. She also volunteers at the Community Cancer Center and is just about willing to do
anything that is needed to help out! Karen also follows up on all short-term assignments.
JoEllen Paulson – JoEllen assists in the RSVP office in a clerical capacity sporadically on
Tuesday afternoons. JoEllen also volunteers at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center and often likes to
travel with her husband.
Maureen Moore – Maureen assists as a clerical volunteer on Wednesday mornings. Maureen is
a past Senior Advisory Council member at YWCA McLean County, is a great lover of animals
and enjoys painting with water colors.
Kathy Vanetten – Kathy volunteers her time with RSVP on Wednesday mornings making
short-term phone calls. Kathy has an interesting career history including 20+ years as an ele-
mentary school teacher and 20+ years with State Farm. She enjoys gardening and quilting.
Deb Luedtke – Deb assists RSVP in a clerical capacity on Thursday mornings. Deb is a retiree
of Verizon where she worked in Human Resources payroll. She also volunteers at OSF St. Jo-
seph Medical Center as a Receptionist and is exceptionally efficient and helpful.
Betty Ewen – Betty spends most of her Thursdays entering hours for RSVP as a statistician.
Betty is a snowbird and travels to Florida for the winter. She is a neighbor of our very own
YWCA’s Jane Chamberlain and loves to golf in her free time.
Sue Volk – Sue also spends most of her Thursdays entering hours for RSVP as a statistician.
Sue is a YWCA Ambassador, attending community events on behalf of YWCA. Her husband,
Gary is also an RSVP volunteer and is on the Board of the Prairie Aviation Museum.
Office Volunteers Karen Weyhrick and JoEllen Paulson
work on filling short-term volunteer assignments.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO OUR RSVP FAMILY
May your holiday season be blessed with peace and happiness that con-
tinues throughout the coming year! Best wishes and stay safe if you are
traveling this holiday season to visit family and friends!

WHY REPORT YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS TO RSVP?
If all RSVP volunteers reported all volunteer hours served at our 96 not-for-profit partner agen-
cies, it would demonstrate 70% more impact of how RSVP volunteers keep children from fail-
ing in school, feed the hungry and homeless, comfort the sick and care for those who need care
the most. Its understandable that you may feel reporting hours is a hassle and the least im-
portant part of your volunteer work, but it is, nevertheless, part of your volunteer work and is
vital to the continued existence and success of RSVP. If you would like to see RSVP continue
supporting our 800+ volunteers and our 96 not-for-profit partner agencies in McLean County,
please support RSVP by reporting your hours monthly! You can submit your hours easily in a
variety of ways:
1 – Visit www.ywca.org/rsvp and click on Online Volunteer Hour Submission
2 – Complete the hardcopy Hour Submission Form included in this newsletter and mail to
YWCA McLean County at 1201 N. Hershey Rd. in Bloomington.
3 – Call or email Colleen Steinberg at 309-662-0461 ext. 267 or csteinberg@ywcamclean.org.
NEW MINIMUM HOUR REQUIREMENT
Beginning January 1, 2013, RSVP will implement a new requirement to remain an active RSVP
volunteer. All RSVP volunteers will be required to serve at least 10 hours of volunteer ser-
vice per year. This new requirement is being implemented to adequately reflect active RSVP
volunteers in our database which will enable future grant reports to be accurately represented.
For any questions or concerns, please contact the RSVP office.
PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING TO RSVP
If you’ve enjoyed the RSVP program support for your volunteer service and believe RSVP
plays an important role in the community, you can help to insure RSVP’s sustainability by do-
nating to YWCA McLean County today. Thank you for considering this request and thank you
for your service!
Thank you for your support of RSVP and YWCA McLean County
(All donations for RSVP should be made out to: YWCA McLean County)

ognized for serving older adults in his community
for many years in many ways, including counseling
for the Senior Health Insurance Program. Since
2003, Ralph reported 9,743 hours of counseling on
behalf of 2,000 Medicare beneficiaries.

,

SAVE THE DATE FOR
GENERATIONS OF WOMEN
Please save the date to Honor the Past and Imagine
the Future for YWCA McLean County’s Genera-
tions of Women! This event will be held on Satur-
day, May 4th
, 2013 from 11:30 – 2:00pm at the
Illinois State University Alumni Center in Nor-
mal. Gathering all ages of women together, this up-
lifting and empowering event will build and
strengthen relationships, allowing a deeper under-
standing of each other as we celebrate the im-
portance of family and friends.
During a delicious, catered lunch, keynote speaker Mia Smith, head coach of the Illinois Wesleyan
University Women’s Basketball team shares an incredibly inspirational story of what friends and
family meant to her during a very trying time in her life. Mia battled breast cancer while leading
her team to victory in the spring 2012 Women’s Basketball championship game. Attendees will
then explore what family means to them through arts, crafts, and a unique workshop on jewelry
making.
Mark your calendars and plan to join YWCA
McLean County at the 1st annual Generations of
Women Event!

SMART SPROUTS STARTS
Smart Sprouts volunteer mentors spend 2-4 hours
per week meeting with children enrolled in YWCA
after-school programs. Some days the volunteers
may spend time helping one child; some days they
may interact with a group of children playing
games or reading a book. This program provides a
fun and flexible way to make a difference in the
life of a child. To become a Smart Sprouts mentor
or for more information about the program, contact
Julie at the RSVP office.
Students at Irving enjoy reading with mentors.

  • 3. WHY REPORT YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS TO RSVP? If all RSVP volunteers reported all volunteer hours served at our 96 not-for-profit partner agen- cies, it would demonstrate 70% more impact of how RSVP volunteers keep children from fail- ing in school, feed the hungry and homeless, comfort the sick and care for those who need care the most. Its understandable that you may feel reporting hours is a hassle and the least im- portant part of your volunteer work, but it is, nevertheless, part of your volunteer work and is vital to the continued existence and success of RSVP. If you would like to see RSVP continue supporting our 800+ volunteers and our 96 not-for-profit partner agencies in McLean County, please support RSVP by reporting your hours monthly! You can submit your hours easily in a variety of ways: 1 – Visit www.ywca.org/rsvp and click on Online Volunteer Hour Submission 2 – Complete the hardcopy Hour Submission Form included in this newsletter and mail to YWCA McLean County at 1201 N. Hershey Rd. in Bloomington. 3 – Call or email Colleen Steinberg at 309-662-0461 ext. 267 or csteinberg@ywcamclean.org. NEW MINIMUM HOUR REQUIREMENT Beginning January 1, 2013, RSVP will implement a new requirement to remain an active RSVP volunteer. All RSVP volunteers will be required to serve at least 10 hours of volunteer ser- vice per year. This new requirement is being implemented to adequately reflect active RSVP volunteers in our database which will enable future grant reports to be accurately represented. For any questions or concerns, please contact the RSVP office.
