The Totally Awesome ......... Red Anony

                      Adaptations
The Red Anony is a small plant that at average grows to about
6 inches tall. This shortness has helped it survive in the tundra
by helping the Red Anony not freeze . This shortness is because
of lack of nutrients and because there is a sub-layer of soil
called permafrost that plant roots cannot penetrate. It is a
dark reddish color to help focus more sunlight and it has
flowers that follow the sun to also help focus more sunlight to
the center of the plant. Usually found clustered together to keep warm.

                                       Habitat
The habitat in which the Red Anony lives in is the tundra, in the summer the tundra
can get up to 24 hours of daylight and nights are cool, in the winter it is harsh and
nights are long. The tundra receives 4 to 10 inches of precipitation a year and most of it
is snow or ice. In the tundra there is a layer of permafrost, permafrost is a permanently
frozen sub-layer of soil.
                                                                                    Leaves

Size and Shape
The Red Anony is 6 inches tall. The flower is 1 and a half inches from one petal to the
petal directly on the other side of it. The petals are a yellow color. In the middle there
is a puffy ovary in which contains the seed. At the tips of most branches there is a
cluster of leaves each with around 5 to 7 leaves on a branch. The Red Anony is a
woody plant, that means the stem of the plant is like that of a tree.

           Dormancy: The plant
           has stopped growing for a
           period of time, its leaves
           and petals have fallen off.

                                                     shoots a seed somewhere far
                                                     away.
Where It Lives
The Red Anony lives in the tundra. The places it can be found are circled
                                below.

                                  Did you know...
         1) The Red Anony has a semi-hollow center to store spare water to
survive droughts.
         2) Surrounding the center are spikes to keep from getting eaten.
         3) They are found commonly on most tundras.

This is the man that found the Red Anony, he came across it one day while observing
the tundra, he was taking notes when he tripped over the little plant. He looked down
and saw clumps of Red Anony sprouting out of the ground. "Truly astounding!" He
commented. His name is Oliver Freeman, he was a plant explorer and found this plant
            in 1934.
