JALANI JOHNSON’S YUMMY
CAR PROJECT
EXPLANATION OF THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
THE CHALLENGE IS TO CREATE A CAR OUT OF ALL EDIBLE MATERIAL. IT MUST BE
ABLE TO ROLL DOWN A RAMP PLACED AT A 30 DEGREE ANGLE. YOU MUST TRY
TO CREATE THE CAR SO THAT IT CAN TRAVEL THE FARTHEST DISTANCE AND WIN
THE CLASS COMPETITION AND LATER GO ON TO THE FINAL COMPOTION AND
REPRESENT THE SCHOOL.
PROTOTYPE/RATIONAL
I based my design on its weight. I believe that the more
weight added will create the most speed. So I tried to make
my design sturdy and heavy. I made it out of cookie
wheels, pretzel sticks witch are the axils, gum drops for the
rims, jelly beans that are tuck together by flower and water.
Also a gram cracker is used for the base and mash
mellows at the bottom for cushioning. My design was
constructed so that is has more speed. I tried to finds foods
for my wheels that will create less friction. I made sure that
the middle part between the axil and the base was wide
enough for it to spin. So my design was created to be fast
and create less friction.
EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN
PROBLEM QUESTION: WHAT IS THE AFFECT OF THE WEIGHT OF
THE CAR ON THE DISTANCE IT TRAVELS?
IV: THE WEIGHT PF THE CAR.
DV: DISTANCE THE CAR TRAVELS.
EXPERIMENTAL GROUPS: 10,20,30,40,50 JELLYBEANS
CONSTANT: WEIGHT (MASS)
HYPOTHESIS
IF THE WEIGHT OF THE CAR INCREASES THAN THE
DISTANCE THAT THE CAR TRAVELS WILL INCREASE BECAUSE
THERE IS LESS POTENTIAL ENERGY.

MATERIALS/PROCEDURES
• MATERIAL:
• 2 PRETZELS
• 1 GRAM CRACKER
• 2 LIFESAVERS(CANDY)
• 2 MARSHMALLOWS
• 8 COOKIES
• SUGAR WAX TO STICK EVERYTHING
TOGETHER
• JELLYBEANS
Procedures:
• First place the ramp at a 30 degree angle.
• Next place 10 jellybeans on the car using the
sugar wax and roll it down the ramp.
• Than measure the distance the car traveled.
• Than repeat steps 2-3 5 times adding ten
jellybeans each trial.
CONCLUSION
WHAT IS THE AFFECT OF THE WEIGHT OF THE CAR ON THE DISTANCE IT TRAVELS? I FOUND THAT THE WEIGH DID
NOT AFFECT THE MOVEMENT OF THE CAR BECAUSE IT COULD NOT MOVE. MY HYPOTHESIS WAS IF THE WEIGHT OF
THE CAR INCREASES THAN THE DISTANCE OF THE CAR WILL INCREASE BECAUSE THERE IS LESS POTENTIAL
ENERGY. IT WAS REFUTED BECAUSE THERE WERE NO CHANGES IN DISTANCE. IT REMAINED AT 0 CENTIMETERS.

Rational
My design was built so
it can have speed. I
constructed my final
design so it can be
lighter. When there is
more mass there is
more inertia. So I
created a design so
there is less inertia
and it can travel a
longer distance.

What is The Effect of the weight of the Car
on the Distance it Travels?
REFLECTION QUESTION
• MY DESIGN WAS MORE AFFECTIVE THAN MY PROTOTYPE.
• THAT THE FLOUR AND WATER DOES NOT STICK GOOD.
• I TRIED TO KEEP THE DEGREE THE RAMP WAS PLACED AT.
• I WOULD MAKE CHANGES TO MY FINAL DESIGN ADDING WHEELS MADE OF SQUASH.
• THAT IT COULD NOT BE CREATED OUT OF WHATEVER FOOD I WANTED.
• MAKING THE WIKI.
