Post Civil War, Northern women became increasingly active in the Black suffrage movements in
the North. They strategized that by enforcing the right of suffrage for African Americans they
would automatically receive the right to vote. Their calculations were based off of the hierarchal
rules implied by the Jim Crow South. During the Jim Crow Era, segregationists feared that
reconstruction would mess with the inherent order of their society by making Black men equal to
White men and beneath them allowing Black women to be equal to White women. Their
restoration period stressed that the gender/racial hierarchy be preserved as follows: White men,
White women, Black men, and then Black women. The Northern women assumed that there was no
way they would give Black men the right to vote without giving White women the right to vote

Reflection About Suffering
Introduction
Christians know other Christians are prone to suffering. Non Christians I have spoken to
believe that Christians have a happy life. Non believers believe we do not endure suffering
simply because in their reality, God is personified as a genie; Christians can simply pray for what
they desire in life; examples including money, power, wealth, and the Lord will grant those
desires immediately. However, Christians know suffering is inevitable. From a theological
standpoint, suffering is defined as: the experience of physical pain and mental distress. ( suffering
) If individuals were to evaluate suffering from a Christian perspective, we must realize categories
that come with suffering. First, suffering is the consequence of the flawed nature of creation.
Second, suffering is the direct consequence of one s violation of God s laws. Third, suffering can
be good for our faith, and finally suffering is embedded in truth, Christianity, and within the church.
Historical Development
Before looking at the categories which formulate suffering, I would like to look at Christian
authors who agreed with my categories of suffering and who also sparked my inspiration for
evaluating suffering from a believer s viewpoint.
The first author is John Bunyan. His book, The Pilgrim s Progress tells the story of Christian, a
pilgrim who journeys from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. The City of Destruction
emulates the world; Celestial City heaven. Christian was

The first source is a Newspaper article from The New York Times dated May 5th, 1970, a day
after the shooting. This second hand source is filled with first hand quotes from people who were
there and experienced the shooting. This article also includes the basic information of how
everything happened at that tragic event. This newspaper article was used to tell the people of
America, what tragic event had happened which ended up increasing the antiwar movement
because of the anger that it sparked in Americans and the repression on the first amendment to

The photographer was John Filo, a student at Kent State university who studied photojournalism.
He was also a staffer of a satellite paper for the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. Filo s purpose behind
submitting the photo to the press was to get the word out about probably the most tragic event that

As is known to all, people always have different views on one issue because of the different
understanding of objective things and personal experience. And that maybe why there is a great
number of conflicts in this world. People always have a stereotype view of the people who has a
different view with them, and things are even worse when someone is the only one person that
has a different view. A good argument does not mean being the only one who is right, but by
providing a valid explanation. Providing a valid argument is necessary and providing a logical and
reasonable proof to support argument is more persuasive. However, the personalities also play an

Juror 4 is an educated and logical man because all of his arguments are based on the facts and
evidence. He also notices some details that other jurors ignored at the beginning. He illustrates
that the murder weapon, which is an unusual carved handle and blade knife is a strong evidence
that proves the boy is the suspect because the knife is so unique and the shop owner also
confirms that the knife the boy has is the only one in stock. And it is not possible that the knife
just fell out from the boy s pocket and someone picked it up and stabbing the victim or someone
else use the exactly same knife to kill boy s father because it is a not possible coincidence. Other
jurors don t accept an incredible coincidence like this as well. After listening to Juror 4 s
argument, however, Davis presents his own argument, which is the coincidence is possible. But
Juror 3 stands out and rejects Davis s argument that he doesn t think it is possible. At this point,
Davis shows other jurors a very similar knife just like the boy s. Davis points out his evidence to
confirm his argument is correct, which is it is possible that someone stabbed a very similar knife
and killed the father, because Davis bought this knife in a shop that is two blocks from the boy s
house. That shows if Davis does, anyone else could buy an exactly same knife. After Davis explains
his argument, even though majority of the jurors still are not convinced by his argument, Juror 2
begins to question the murder weapon because he thinks this is an interesting point to consider
about and Juror 11 says the knife was important to the district attorney, which shows that Davis s

of Enneads, the Greek philosopher Plotinus gives his standpoint on what defines beauty. This
passage is noteworthy because of the way it contradicts the aesthetics of his day and age. Plotinus
begins by asking his audience to consider what beauty is. He offers the example of some things
being beautiful by the nature of the objects themselves, and something instead are beautiful by
participation, such as being virtuous (Plotinus 1). He prompts the audience to ask themselves
whether beauty is sensory since one may see or hear things they consider beautiful, what catches the
attention of someone ultimately leading to a feeling of attraction to certain things (Plotinus 1)?...
Plotinus refers to the other philosophers of his time stating, nearly everyone says that it is good
proportion of the parts to the whole, with the addition of the parts to the whole, with the addition of
good colour which produces visible beauty... and defines being beautiful as being well proportioned
and measured (Plotinus 1). Plotinus first rebuttal is, if beauty lies in being well proportioned, then
it is the parts put together properly that makes something beautiful so that the parts themselves
would not hold any beauty. He illustrates this by stating the parts will not have the property of
beauty by themselves, but will contribute to the beauty of the whole. He gives examples of simple
parts that are beautiful on their own such as, though an entire song is beautiful, one note may hold
