1. Short film evaluation
My shortfilmwasbasedonthe modernrecreationof IT.We usedthe similarhorrortheme to
presentthe conversationbetweenGeorgieandPennywise(the antagonist).
The good qualitiesof ourfilmwasthe use of mise enscene to intensifythe horrortheme andmake
the filmscarier. Forexample we usedlow-keylightingtointensifythe theme of mysteryandentice
the audience bymakingthemlessable tosee the eventsof the scene, thusmakingthemmore
encouragedtocarry on watchingto see whathappensnext. The locationwasinthe forestwhich
wouldbe relatable foraudienceswithfamilyand make itmore realisticasthe characteris supposed
to be a youngchildplaying. The costumesof the charactersisas realisticaspossible tothe one from
IT to make our recreationmore believable. We usedaslittle propsaspossible, howeverwe diduse a
paperplane to supportthe ideaof the childishcharacterandgive a reasonfor Georgie torun into
Pennywise. Furthermore we usedarange of camera angles, suchashighangle shotsand pans,to
make the shotsmore interestingandfurtherintriguethe audiencebyexemplifyingPennywise’s
character. Asthe filmstartedwithGeorgie running, itbuilttensionbefore the conversationsothat
the audience wouldbe drawnintowatch more.
However,the issueswithmyfilmwas the pre-productionaswe didn’tgointoenoughdetail inorder
to make our filmaccurate enoughtothe planandtherefore made ithave little quality. Thiscanbe
shownby the storyboardwhichwe didnotstickto, and itwould therefore have notbeenaccurate
to my original idea. Also,we didsticktothe scriptfrom the original filmmakingourfilmnotvery
diverse whichcouldbe anideafornexttime. Furthermore the microphone wasnotveryclearandso
at timesitwas difficulttopickup whatthe actors were saying. Howeverwe didkeep similarities
withthe script,makingthe filmslightlymore accurate.
If I were tore-dothisworkagain I would spendmore time planningmypre-productioninorderto
make my filmmore accurate and lesstime consuming.Iwoulddothisbylookingforlocationsbefore
filmingsothatI am able to adjustmyideato the whereaboutsandlandscape of the settingand
scene. Iwouldalsodouble checkthatall of myequipmentisworkingsothatwe will be more
organisedand therefore more likelytosticktota time schedule.Furthermore Iwouldschedule the
actors betteras theystruggledtokeeptothe scriptat timesandso theywouldbe kepttoa tighter
schedule,meaningthe filmwouldhave beenshotquicker.
Overall, Ibelieve thatthe filmwasfittingtothe genre asshownthroughthe accurate use of mise-
en-scene andthe range of camera anglesthatintensifiedthe emotionsbehindthe shots. Ihave
learntthat we needtobe more organisedbeforefilminginordertosave time and reduce stress.
