2. SIWES
The objectives are:
Provide an avenue for students in higher institutions of
learning to acquire industrial skills and experiences during
their course of study.
Prepare students for industrial work situations that they
are likely to meet after graduation.
Expose students to work methods and techniques in
handling equipment and machinery that may not be
available in their institutions.
Make the transition from school to the world of work
easier and enhance students’ contacts for later job
3. CIT, KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY.
Centre for Innovative technology(CIT) KWASU, is an ICT CENTRE
which was formed to meet the software development, communication,
effective system for use and network demands of Kwara State
University. Since Kwara State University inception in 2009, the CIT
have been doing all the necessary activities Students and Staffs need
pertaining to portals, system repairing, networking, email, I.D card,
and all other issues. CIT aims to consistently redefine expectations
and continuously harness global and local resources and intellectual
capital to deploy solutions that will generate relevant and inspiring
6. HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE
REPAIRS
The hardware repairs are
basically on desktop
computers, laptops,
printers, photocopiers
and projectors.
Software repairs
involved techniques like
restoring,
defragmentation, back
dating, BIOS setup and
so on.
7. TONER RECYCLING
This is the process of
refilling the cartridge and
developers in Printer or
Photocopier with a fresh
toner and replacing other
peripherals of the
cartridge such as the
cleaning blade, doctor
blade, charging roller as
well as the drum with the
new ones.
8. HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE
INSTALLATION
The hardware installation
involved the instalment of
new desktop computers,
laptops, printers ,
photocopiers and their
components such as
motherboard, power pack,
screen, power jack, gears and
so on.
The software installation
involved the installation of
9. DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
As a Database
Administrator, was in
charge of organising and
storing data, keeping
information private for
security purpose. I was
opportuned to alter,
create, delete and
modify data of the
student and staff in
the institute when it is
necessary.
11. DIFFICULTIES ENCOUNTERED
Transportation /financial problem.
Power Interruption which causes damage to
some hardware.
No proper arrangement for the delivery of
devices that have already been repaired.
Inadequate/Proper storage space making the
unit un-conducive.
12. POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
Proper and up to date documentation
should be done on any gadget that comes
in and out of the unit.
Provision of delivery van to the unit.
Provision of proper storage space so that faulty
electronic gadgets received for repairs will be kept
before they are attended to.
13. CONCLUSION
The aim and objectives of the Student Industrial Work
Experience Scheme (SIWES) was achieved by way of
participation in various tasks. This broadened my knowledge
and equipped me for the challenges that I am likely to face
in the work environment. The SIWES programme also bridged
the gap between theory knowledge obtained in school and the
actual practical.
