ISO 9001 is an international standard for quality management systems that helps organizations be more efficient and improve customer satisfaction. A new version, ISO 9001:2015, was published in 2015 to replace the previous 2008 version. Key improvements in the new standard include a greater focus on risk-based thinking and leadership engagement. Organizations currently certified to ISO 9001:2008 have until September 2018 to transition to the new 2015 version to maintain their certification. The new standard follows a common structure across ISO management systems and places more emphasis on meeting customer needs, operational efficiency, and supply chain management.
