SYLLABUS – IGCSE
PUBLISHER – CAMBRIDGE
CLASS – 5
Assalamu alaikum WRWB,
I am Moqheeta Mehboob. I believe, teaching children about the creation
without any mention of its Creator is incomplete education.
Islamic Integrated Lesson plans is a step towards providing holistic education
to our children.
I have been trained in integrating Quran and Ahadith into the mainstream
curriculum.
In my lesson plans, I always try to incorporate the different learning styles and
the theory of Multiple Intelligence.
I am sharing a sample lesson plan created for Grade 5 students.
We all have to do our part in spreading the deen and building our akhirah.

Ask the class to name the parts of plants.
Main
Teaching
18 mins
Tell the students today in sha Allah they will be starting a new unit in Science, Plant
Growth. Write the title on the board.
Ask them to recite the Dua:
Rabbi zidniilma O my Lord! Advance me in Knowledge [surah Ta-Ha; 20:114]
Write the LO on the board. Read it for the class and ask the students to repeat the LO after you. This will make
sure all students know what they are learning under their Science Lesson.
Ask the students to share what they already know about seeds; write their answers on right corner of the board
in a list form.
Ask the students
 Do seeds come in different sizes and shapes?
 Which is the biggest seed they have seen till now?
 Can we eat seeds?
 Is seed alive or dead part of a fruit?
 Who created the seeds?
 What is the purpose of seeds?
Tell the class that we will go over each question and explore their answers.
Allah swt mentions in Quran about seed at many different places. Explain that Allah swt has produced
a variety of seeds. They differ in their shapes, sizes, purposes, tastes and methods of their dispersal
etc.
Show them a Coconut and a black seed. Ask what do they think is common in them. Both of them are
seeds. Tell them that coconut is also a seed. Just a very seed big in size. Through this seed Allah swt
makes other coconut trees grow. And the black seed is also a seed. People use them in their curries,
while baking bread and for many other purposes. Allah’s messenger (‫)ﷺ‬ mentioned about a seed that
has cure to all diseases, does the class know which seed it is? It is the Black seed.
Quote the hadith.
Narrated Abu Huraira:
I heard Allah's Messenger (‫)ﷺ‬ saying, "There is healing in black cumin for all diseases except death."
Sahih al-Bukhari 5688
Ask, can seeds be eaten? Do they eat apple, orange, water melon seeds? No. But do they eat some
other seeds? Yes. Why?
Some seeds are safe to eat and also used as food.
Ask them to think of all seeds that are used as food: Chick Peas, Groundnut, Green Gram, fennel
seeds, cumin seeds, peanuts, coconut, sunflower seeds, pomegranate seeds, etc.
Who else eats seeds? Animals, insects and birds also eat seeds.
Allah swt has created seeds for so many reasons and one main reason is to feed its makhlooq
(creation)
Ask - Is seed a living thing or non-living or a dead thing? Support your answers with reasons.
How do plants reproduce? They reproduce from a seed. ( or through stem cuttings, leaf or roots)
If a new plant can come out of a seed, then this should make seed a living thing. But does a dry seed
look like a living thing? This is Allah swt’s greatness. He brings life from things which look lifeless to
us. A seed, though not active, is a tiny living thing.
So if a seed can reproduce a new plant, does it become a live thing or a dead thing? It is a live
part of the fruit. What do living things need to grow? They require food.
Where do seeds get their food from? Allah swt has stored a seed’s food in itself. Allah swt
provides the nourishment/food/sustenance for all of his creation. He is Ar-Razzaq.
Draw the diagram of seed on the board making sure the parts are prominently visible. Ask like
everything, do they think even a seed will have parts?
Explain that seed is the part of a seed plant which can grow into a new plant. It is a reproductive
structure which disperses, and can survive for some time. A typical seed includes three basic parts: (1)
an embryo, (2) a supply of nutrients for the embryo, and (3) a seed coat.
Seeds carry the food that helps the new plant begin to grow. This food store is in the endosperm,
and/or in the cotyledons.
Show the children where the food is stored. Ask them if they had noticed this
while eating?
Ask the students why Allah swt gave a seed coat? The purpose of the seed
coat is to protect the seed from physical, temperature-related, or water
damage.
Point the part where the new plant is, tell them it is called embryo, and show
the scar where the seed was attached to the fruit.

Give each child few soaked seeds. Let them take out the seed’s coat, split it, and study the
structure. Ask them to draw the seed and label all its parts.
They can take the help of the figure given in their textbook.
Conclusion
4 mins
Ask
 What is the new topic we started today?
 Where does seed gets its food from and who places it there?
Name the seed that has cure to all diseases.
Name the parts of a seed?
Home Work
2 mins
Extended activity
Soak a few seeds and observe the changes the seeds go through.
Research the following questions:
Which plant produces the world's largest seed and where it can be found?
What is the purpose of the seed?
Why is it important for the water to enter the seed?
What is the purpose of the cotyledon in a seed?

Main
Teaching
18 mins
Ask the students to recite the Dua:
‫ا‬Rabbi zidni ilma O my Lord! Advance me in Knowledge [surah Ta-Ha; 20:114]
Quickly do a recap of yesterday’s lesson objectives. Draw the diagram of seed on the board and ask the children
to help you label its parts.
Ask the class: Is seed alive? How do they know? What is necessary for the seed to grow? When does it start
growing? Take their answers and tell them they will be learning about the stages of seed development today.
Write the LO on the board. Read it for the class and ask the students to repeat the LO after you. This will make
sure all students know what they are learning under their Science Lesson.
Explain that when a seed begins to grow we say it germinates and the process is called germination.
In the Quran, Allah swt says that every living thing is created from water, a seed also requires water to grow. In
Surah Al- Anbiya:
Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated
them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?
Ask them what happened when they soaked the seeds yesterday, they absorbed water and the seed coat split.
Tell the students that in the Quran, Allah swt says it is He who causes the seed to split and causes life (a plant) from
a dead looking seed. In Surah Al-Anam ayah 95,
It is Allah Who causeth the seed-grain and the date-stone to split and sprout. He causeth the living to issue from the
dead, and He is the one to cause the dead to issue from the living. That is Allah: then how are ye deluded away from
the truth?
Explain the students that if the embryo (remind what is a seed’s embryo) is alive, and the seed finds the appropriate
conditions and water it germinates. If the appropriate conditions are not there the seed remains in a dormant or
inactive state. When the conditions are suitable they germinate. Tell them they can remain in an inactive state for
months or years. It is only by Allah swt’s command that seeds split and germinate
Quote the lyrics of Dawud Wharnsby Ali - Allah Ta-ala ( If possible, play a little part of nasheed)
Everything Allah commands to be
Will always become a reality.
You can try to plant a seed
So deep and dark within the ground,
But, you must believe me,
No matter how long you wait around, You
can never make it grow, you know, Unless
Allah commands it so.
When seeds are planted, they first absorb water and split. The next step is the growth of the root downwards.
Once these roots take hold, a small plant will begin to emerge and eventually break through the soil. When this
happens, we say that the seed has sprouted. The scientific name for this process is germination.
Give them the example of lotus seed in China.
Draw the stages of seed germination and explain it to the students.
Activity
15 mins
Ask the students to
Draw the stages of seed germination and explain the process in their words keeping the quranic ayah as guide.

Islamic integrated science lesson plan.

  • 1. SYLLABUS – IGCSE PUBLISHER – CAMBRIDGE CLASS – 5
  • 2. Assalamu alaikum WRWB, I am Moqheeta Mehboob. I believe, teaching children about the creation without any mention of its Creator is incomplete education. Islamic Integrated Lesson plans is a step towards providing holistic education to our children. I have been trained in integrating Quran and Ahadith into the mainstream curriculum. In my lesson plans, I always try to incorporate the different learning styles and the theory of Multiple Intelligence. I am sharing a sample lesson plan created for Grade 5 students. We all have to do our part in spreading the deen and building our akhirah.

  • 5. Lesson – 1 Duration – 40 minutes Date - Teacher – Number of students – Lesson Objectives  To conclude that seeds are alive.  To relate that Allah swt is Ar-Razzaq and provides the nourishment for all of His creation.  To comment on the main purpose of the seed  To label different parts of a seed. Resources Coconut, black Seeds, Soaked seeds, notebooks, stationery Warmup 1 min Ask the class to name the parts of plants. Main Teaching 18 mins Tell the students today in sha Allah they will be starting a new unit in Science, Plant Growth. Write the title on the board. Ask them to recite the Dua: Rabbi zidniilma O my Lord! Advance me in Knowledge [surah Ta-Ha; 20:114] Write the LO on the board. Read it for the class and ask the students to repeat the LO after you. This will make sure all students know what they are learning under their Science Lesson. Ask the students to share what they already know about seeds; write their answers on right corner of the board in a list form. Ask the students  Do seeds come in different sizes and shapes?  Which is the biggest seed they have seen till now?  Can we eat seeds?  Is seed alive or dead part of a fruit?
  • 6.  Who created the seeds?  What is the purpose of seeds? Tell the class that we will go over each question and explore their answers. Allah swt mentions in Quran about seed at many different places. Explain that Allah swt has produced a variety of seeds. They differ in their shapes, sizes, purposes, tastes and methods of their dispersal etc. Show them a Coconut and a black seed. Ask what do they think is common in them. Both of them are seeds. Tell them that coconut is also a seed. Just a very seed big in size. Through this seed Allah swt makes other coconut trees grow. And the black seed is also a seed. People use them in their curries, while baking bread and for many other purposes. Allah’s messenger (‫)ﷺ‬ mentioned about a seed that has cure to all diseases, does the class know which seed it is? It is the Black seed. Quote the hadith. Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Messenger (‫)ﷺ‬ saying, "There is healing in black cumin for all diseases except death." Sahih al-Bukhari 5688 Ask, can seeds be eaten? Do they eat apple, orange, water melon seeds? No. But do they eat some other seeds? Yes. Why? Some seeds are safe to eat and also used as food. Ask them to think of all seeds that are used as food: Chick Peas, Groundnut, Green Gram, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, peanuts, coconut, sunflower seeds, pomegranate seeds, etc. Who else eats seeds? Animals, insects and birds also eat seeds.
  • 7. Allah swt has created seeds for so many reasons and one main reason is to feed its makhlooq (creation) Ask - Is seed a living thing or non-living or a dead thing? Support your answers with reasons. How do plants reproduce? They reproduce from a seed. ( or through stem cuttings, leaf or roots) If a new plant can come out of a seed, then this should make seed a living thing. But does a dry seed look like a living thing? This is Allah swt’s greatness. He brings life from things which look lifeless to us. A seed, though not active, is a tiny living thing. So if a seed can reproduce a new plant, does it become a live thing or a dead thing? It is a live part of the fruit. What do living things need to grow? They require food. Where do seeds get their food from? Allah swt has stored a seed’s food in itself. Allah swt provides the nourishment/food/sustenance for all of his creation. He is Ar-Razzaq. Draw the diagram of seed on the board making sure the parts are prominently visible. Ask like everything, do they think even a seed will have parts? Explain that seed is the part of a seed plant which can grow into a new plant. It is a reproductive structure which disperses, and can survive for some time. A typical seed includes three basic parts: (1) an embryo, (2) a supply of nutrients for the embryo, and (3) a seed coat. Seeds carry the food that helps the new plant begin to grow. This food store is in the endosperm, and/or in the cotyledons. Show the children where the food is stored. Ask them if they had noticed this while eating? Ask the students why Allah swt gave a seed coat? The purpose of the seed coat is to protect the seed from physical, temperature-related, or water damage. Point the part where the new plant is, tell them it is called embryo, and show the scar where the seed was attached to the fruit.
  • 8. Happy with the lesson? Objective met Warm up done Followed time Prior preparation done Activity 15 mins Give each child few soaked seeds. Let them take out the seed’s coat, split it, and study the structure. Ask them to draw the seed and label all its parts. They can take the help of the figure given in their textbook. Conclusion 4 mins Ask  What is the new topic we started today?  Where does seed gets its food from and who places it there? Name the seed that has cure to all diseases. Name the parts of a seed? Home Work 2 mins Extended activity Soak a few seeds and observe the changes the seeds go through. Research the following questions: Which plant produces the world's largest seed and where it can be found? What is the purpose of the seed? Why is it important for the water to enter the seed? What is the purpose of the cotyledon in a seed? Evaluation Teacher’s notes
  • 9. Lesson - 2 Date - Duration – 40 minutes Teacher – Number of students – Lesson Objectives  To be able to define 'germination'  To list the critical elements in germination  To sequence the steps of seed germination.  To talk about what Quran says about the splitting of a seed. Resources Notebook Warm up 1 min Name some seeds that we use on daily basis Main Teaching 18 mins Ask the students to recite the Dua: ‫ا‬Rabbi zidni ilma O my Lord! Advance me in Knowledge [surah Ta-Ha; 20:114] Quickly do a recap of yesterday’s lesson objectives. Draw the diagram of seed on the board and ask the children to help you label its parts. Ask the class: Is seed alive? How do they know? What is necessary for the seed to grow? When does it start growing? Take their answers and tell them they will be learning about the stages of seed development today. Write the LO on the board. Read it for the class and ask the students to repeat the LO after you. This will make sure all students know what they are learning under their Science Lesson. Explain that when a seed begins to grow we say it germinates and the process is called germination. In the Quran, Allah swt says that every living thing is created from water, a seed also requires water to grow. In Surah Al- Anbiya:
  • 10. Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe? Ask them what happened when they soaked the seeds yesterday, they absorbed water and the seed coat split. Tell the students that in the Quran, Allah swt says it is He who causes the seed to split and causes life (a plant) from a dead looking seed. In Surah Al-Anam ayah 95, It is Allah Who causeth the seed-grain and the date-stone to split and sprout. He causeth the living to issue from the dead, and He is the one to cause the dead to issue from the living. That is Allah: then how are ye deluded away from the truth? Explain the students that if the embryo (remind what is a seed’s embryo) is alive, and the seed finds the appropriate conditions and water it germinates. If the appropriate conditions are not there the seed remains in a dormant or inactive state. When the conditions are suitable they germinate. Tell them they can remain in an inactive state for months or years. It is only by Allah swt’s command that seeds split and germinate Quote the lyrics of Dawud Wharnsby Ali - Allah Ta-ala ( If possible, play a little part of nasheed) Everything Allah commands to be Will always become a reality. You can try to plant a seed So deep and dark within the ground,
  • 11. But, you must believe me, No matter how long you wait around, You can never make it grow, you know, Unless Allah commands it so. When seeds are planted, they first absorb water and split. The next step is the growth of the root downwards. Once these roots take hold, a small plant will begin to emerge and eventually break through the soil. When this happens, we say that the seed has sprouted. The scientific name for this process is germination. Give them the example of lotus seed in China. Draw the stages of seed germination and explain it to the students. Activity 15 mins Ask the students to Draw the stages of seed germination and explain the process in their words keeping the quranic ayah as guide.
  • 12. Happy with the lesson? Objective met Warm up done Followed time Prior preparation done Conclusion 4 mins Ask the class • What is germination? • Ask what is the first step in germination? • On whose command do seeds germinate? • What does the ayah 95 of Surah Al Anam say?
