Huge investment in EOSC over years
Lots of groundwork since 2015
• Council Conclusions
• Expert Group reports
• EC documents
Major investment in EOSC related
projects…
What is EOSC?
The European Open Science Cloud or ‘a data commons’
• A web of FAIR data and services
• Federation of eInfra and research infrastructures
• Environment in which data can be brought together with
services to perform analyses and address societal challenges
www.eosc.eu
EOSC is multi-x
• Multi-stakeholder
• Multi-country
• Multi-lingual
• Multi-discipline
• All types of data – open and closed
• ….
This adds layers of complexity, but sensitive data can still be shared
How to share (sensitive) data?
• Document it so it can be understood by others
• Place it in a repository or secure data service so it can be found and accessed
• Clearly licence it so you know who can use it and for what purpose
• Assign a Persistent Identifier (PID) for discovery / identification / tracking impact
• Deidentify, anonymise, aggregate, as needed
• Make it FAIR!
A plea to funders, policy makers, service providers…
• Let research communities do
what is natural to them
• Openness and collaboration is
at the heart of science
• Build infrastructure which
meets real workflows and
needs!
