Muntadhar al-Zeidi, the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at former U.S. President George W. Bush in 2008, will be released from prison in September, three months earlier than his original sentence. Al-Zeidi's act turned him into a folk hero for his criticism of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq. While initially sentenced to three years in prison, the court reduced the sentence to one year with time off for good behavior. Al-Zeidi's release is seen as a victory for free and honorable Iraqi media.
