Editor's Notes
By now everyone is familiar with the Internet of Things
With an estimated potential economic impact of 11 trillion dollars by 2025
The IoT will be huge
And this isn’s news
But while there is a substantial economic impact, there is still a huge disconnect between ‘market hype’ (11 trillion dollars) and ‘market reality’.
And often times the burning question is, ‘how can I make money from the IoT’?
I think it’s important to point out, that IoT is happening for five core reasons. From a plumbing perspective, it has become a lot more affordable
There are more, easy to access, sensors
There is cheap bandwidth
There is a lot of access and availability to store data (both on the device and in the cloud)
There are different types of connectivity platforms
And companies like Intel are pushing the barrier on cheap computing/processing that gives a lot more intelligence and power on the edge device
As a result, we have transitioned from a ‘homogenous’ PC and Mobile market where there were once 5 manufacturers that mattered
To a massively ‘heterogeneous’ market made up of things with tens of thousands of manufacturers that matter
The ‘things’ market will remain fragmented and will likely coalesce
And as more everyday products transition into small computers, product managers must look for new ways to engage users and distinguish their brands.
Data from connected products can reveal a lot about how they are performing and being used
It is more important than ever before to look at product data to guide everything from development, to customer service and support
IoT data insights can help product managers anticipate and fix quality problems and malfunctions, as well as develop new products and services to fill unmet customer needs
Rather than asking yourself ‘how do I get in on thre IoT market”
The real business question you should be asking is “why should I connect” and “now that i’m connected, what should I do with it?”.
Once you figure out what the answer to those questions is, you are in the best position to extract real value from your IoT sensor data. So looking at the connectivity challenge, as well as the data analytics challenge.

Goal(s) for this slide:
Introduce Ayla’s end-to-end platform
Explain what we do
General talking points:
Who we are, explain what we do, explain the different approach up front, we provide powerful tools
Comment and explain that we have “very powerful tools” that can make manufacturers successful
Hit on what is coming in the deck
Trusted
Experts
Flexible
Complete
Enterprise Grade; Security & Scale
We are all about the data
We provide the onramp to the cloud and provide a complete, managed cloud service
We believe that manufacturers are the experts in their respective fields, we take care of all the heavy lifting and offer the managed infrastructure and services needed to develop great connected products
We work with companies like Broadcom and other chip guys to provide an easy onramp to the Ayla cloud, burning production ready code that handles all the networking and security required to talk to our service into off the shelf leading communication modules
Ayla also provides native mobile application libraries for Android and iOS that removes the backend logic of how to communicate with the Ayla cloud, providing a framework to build robust mobile applications
At the heart of our platform is the Ayla Managed Cloud Service that includes everything from user, device, and data management, to data reporting and dashboards, and features like over-the-air udpates.
More Protocol Logos; Thread, Cellular, Ethernet
Chips and Modules; Azurewave, AMPAK, if we need to delete one – MediaTek
Goal(s) for this slide:
Explain Ayla’s flexibility
Touch on that Ayla not only solves that ever changing technology problems presented by the IoT, but that we can help address the business challenges as well
General talking points:
Flexibility is key in IoT, the market is changing and as a platform we will enable the latest technologies to meet the changing requirements in IoT
We also know that customers will want to change as they unlock data, we built the system knowing this – we were built for flexibility
Ayla is built for flexibility, to grow with you as you unlock actionable data and the changing market
IoT is highly competitive and still in its infancy, it is changing just as quickly as it is gaining traction
One of the most critical pieces of any IoT platform is its ability to adapt and change not only to the data, but to the market, Ayla solves both
As an Agile Platform, Ayla handles everything from B2B & B2C connections like working with HomeKit & Works with Nest, chip and module integrations, the protocols to support, platform coverage, and data models.
Ayla was architected from the ground up for flexibility. We knew that we wouldnt know what devices or use cases customers would want to support, but more importantly, we know that because of the data, this would always evolve
Goal(s) for this slide:
Show how complete our platform is and highlight just how much friction we remove
This ties into make versus buy
We want to show them just how much we do
Benefits of having a deep integration
General talking points:
Explain that we provide support for WiFi, and other RF via Linux, etc.
Explain the key benefit of system security and the tight integration we have from enabling this part of the platform

Subscribing to a purpose-built platform (like mnubo) means that data will swiftly be available to all who need it
Allowing more time and resources to be dedicated to improving the actual connected products, delivering new services, onboarding more customers, reducing churn, etc.
Lets consider our <use case company>
They are the maker of a connected product
They are generating lots of raw data from their product which is going through some sort of intermediary cloud and eventually coming to a platform like mnubo
mnubo provides them with an engine to ingest, store and aggregate this data.
Enabling different levels of insights from the data.
Some of our customers package these insights to furnish end user insights.
For example, in the case of commercial equipment, some of these insights are packaged and sent to the building managers.
All of a sudden, with a connected product, you have the ability to better understand and profile your customers.
You also have the ability to build your customer experience to better understand the engagement and satisfaction over time
You can use the data more effectively to lower the cost of operations with predictive maintenance, proactive replacement, replenishment and so on
Lots of customers are using data to drive optimized service packages and new product offerings
There is also the notion that once your product is connected, it’s no longer just a product. It’s actually a service. So there is an opportunity to translate that into a data centric business model. Where you use usage performance data to enable new revenue streams.
With sufficient edge and cloud intelligence, there is an ability to create a more contextual, enriched, product. Which is smart in its behaviour and performance.
But the end goal can be summarized into two sentences - build better products and drive greater customer engagement and satisfaction.
Customers use our platform and the out-of-the-box insights to understand where their products are and how they are behaving.
They use concepts like session analytics to break down the product behaviour into different operating modes and understand the health of the asset
They use product usage analytics to understand which features are being used by which user group the most, at what time of time and where
This helps focus their business solution a lot more, but it also empowers the rest of the teams inside the company
