Asset information and data management for smart rail systems conference Londo...James Nesbitt
he convergence of technology and infrastructure has the ability to transform our communities and economy, reduce emissions as well provide an opportunity for business leaders to optimise asset performance and reduce cost.
To realise the benefits of next generation intelligence, a unified vision and strategy is required to ensure we are understanding how to best leverage the information we are receiving, and how we are managing the vast amount of data associated with new systems.
Asset information and data management will allow more precise decisions to be made to balance cost, risk and performance, supporting operational effectiveness and efficiency.
We will be addressing how the European rail sector are developing and implementing asset information strategies, managing data across multiple disparate systems and leveraging new technologies to succeed.
Joe Dodds - Alcohol Consumption on Mode ChoiceJoseph Chow
This document summarizes a study that used a multinomial logit model to analyze the effect of alcohol consumption on transportation mode choice in New York City. The study found that the probability of taking public transit or walking decreased with increased alcohol consumption, while the probability of taking a taxi or ride-hailing service increased. The models showed good prediction capabilities. The results suggest opportunities for partnerships between public transit agencies and ride-hailing services to provide transportation alternatives on nights and weekends.
SC4 Hangout - Josep Maria Salanova, Pilot in ThessalonikiBigData_Europe
This document summarizes big transport data collection and analysis efforts in Thessaloniki, Greece. Over 1.4 million people live in Thessaloniki and make an estimated 1.3 million daily trips using private vehicles, public transit, taxis, bicycles, and other modes. Sensors including Bluetooth detectors and GPS data from 1,200 taxis and 600 buses provide real-time and historical data on traffic flows, speeds, travel times, origins and destinations, and mobility patterns. This data is analyzed at the Center for Research and Technology Hellas to support improved transportation planning, modeling, and driver information systems.
This document discusses two use cases for implementing geographic information systems (GIS) in train running operations. The first case involves reporting sheep on the tracks, which requires tools for searching infrastructure by location, viewing lines, and finding access points. The second case is an incident where a trailer fell off a bridge, requiring tools for searching, viewing lines and infrastructure, sketching the incident, and tracking field workers. The presentation concludes by discussing expanding the prototype to an industrial solution and pursuing shared GIS symbology between railway organizations.
This document discusses open public transport data from a vehicle-centric perspective. It describes different types of public transport data including vehicle internal data, infrastructure data, and transportation data. Combining these data sources can improve data quality and support predictive analytics. Real-time vehicle tracking is discussed, including challenges with direct GPS sampling. An alternative method of aggregated tracking with raw GPS reference and space-time polygonal chains to model vehicle journeys is proposed. The document also introduces the concept of "toxels", which are space-time building blocks for efficiently modeling transport data at a high level of detail.

The Ethiopian government is working to introduce more technologies like GPS tracking to enhance logistics.
Mike Mulqueen presented on challenges and opportunities in freight logistics. He discussed the large costs of transportation and logistics in the US economy. Current issues for logistics professionals include dealing with tariffs and their impact on sourcing strategies. Transportation management systems are evolving from legacy on-premise systems focused on North America to global cloud-based systems integrating multiple modes and providing advanced analytics. Macroeconomic factors like GDP growth, truck orders, and fuel prices impact the freight environment.
Collaborative Logistics In India & Role of Technology - Ravi Begur (Mahindra ...ELSCC
Collaborative logistics management aims to reduce inefficiencies through collaboration between trading partners. Logistics costs can be lowered through economies of scale, scope, density, experience, and presence. Collaboration models include vertical collaboration between a shipper and receiver, horizontal collaboration between shippers or receivers, and logistics service provider (LSP) driven collaboration. The LSP collaboration model provides economies of scale through load consolidation and economies of scope through closed loop trips. Technology plays a key role by enabling transaction and optimization systems, interfacing with customer systems, tracking shipments, analyzing data, and designing warehouses. Moving forward, options include collaboration within one's own supply chain or with other organizations, though standardization, confidentiality, and cost

Battery Powered and Hybrid Drive Opportunities in Heavy Duty, Large Capacity,...Newton Montano
Battery Powered and Hybrid Drive Opportunities in Heavy Duty, Large Capacity, People Mover Applications.
Electric and hybrid passenger vehicles are no longer a vision or a trend. Their increasing numbers in our roads today signify a change in the mobility space. Yet, commercial heavy-duty and off-road vehicles have the potential to exceed passenger vehicles adoption rates. The main reason is that commercial heavy-duty and off-road vehicles, in most cases, have a more predictable driving routes and duty cycles. Heavy Duty, Large Capacity, People Mover such of those designed and manufactured by Southern California based Trams International, benefit from extensive vehicle design experience proven by actual vehicle performance and constant heavy-duty usage. Trams International’s methodical application analysis is especially critical when implementing advanced vehicle electrification technologies. By defining, measuring and analyzing the vehicle application, Trams International establishes realistic vehicle performance which in turn also defines viable fleet financial models.

It is with great pleasure that we extend to you an invitation to the 5th Power Grid Model Meet-up, scheduled for 6th June 2024. This event will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to join us either through an online Mircosoft Teams session or in person at TU/e located at Den Dolech 2, Eindhoven, Netherlands. The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
What to expect
For the upcoming meetup we are organizing, we have an exciting lineup of activities planned:
-Insightful presentations covering two practical applications of the Power Grid Model.
-An update on the latest advancements in Power Grid -Model technology during the first and second quarters of 2024.
-An interactive brainstorming session to discuss and propose new feature requests.
-An opportunity to connect with fellow Power Grid Model enthusiasts and users.
