0.What’s ZMS?

• ZMS is a client / server based program. This means
the user downloads the client application to talk to
the server.
• All configuration steps, device information, alarm
management, etc. is done by the server.
• Software upgrades are done on the server, and
published to the clients.
1.Connect to ZMS

ZMS Client(NetHorizon)
• Java Application
• Communicates to ZMS Server
• Provides operator GUI console to Server
functions
• Maps with device status icons
• Detailed chassis views
• Real-time alarm and operational status

Connect to ZMS
Add ServerIP to
hosts file

• Provide IP address of zhone device
• Provide SNMP community
• Make sure no errors appear after sync
2.Add New Device

Add new device
Right Click on and
choose Add

3.Add New Card
Right Click on Card and
choose Add
Note the white border around the
selected card

Add new card
ZMS detect the s/w
needed from that card
Hit Next

Add new card
Card is added successfully

Create new EFM Bond
Assign links (members) to newly created EFM
Create bridges (vlans) over this bond
4.EFM Bond Config

EFM Bond Config
Choose the Card
Choose Bond Groups
section,Right click on it
Click on Add

Choose type to be
EFM
Click on Add
Choose Descriptive Name

Physicals
Choose Assign Links

Click OK

Choose the bond
Click on Manage
Bridging

Make sure bond is
choosen
Select bridge category
(downlink)
Select type of birdge
(tagged/untagged)
Select Vlan ID

• You can schedule daily/weekly backup for
configuration at specific time (each Thursday at
9:35PM)
• Configuration file name contains IP address for the
device and time/date for configuration process
• Make sure the backup process returns “Success”

Choose to Backup

• ZMS can upgrade/downgrade multiple devices at
the same time
• TFTP server should be available during
upgrade/downgrade process (you can provide
primary and secondary TFTP server for redundancy)

receiver
Configure Common
Community between them

8.Alarm Management
The icon next to the device
represents the highest level
alarm that currently exists on
the device. In the example,
both Zhone Malc and malc-199
have Critical alarms present.
Alarms are divided into:
Critical
Major
Minor
Warning
Information

Alarm Management
To view the alarms on a
device, highlight the device
and click the Alarm button on
the toolbar.
To view all alarms for the
network, select the region (in
this case, Default Region) and
click on the Alarm button.
