2. What is the International Baccalaureate Organisation? The IBO is a nonprofit educational foundation, based in Geneva, founded in 1968. The purpose was to produce a common international curriculum and to develop international-mindedness. There are 2,390 IB World Schools in 129 countries, 470 of which are PYP schools. The IBO provides professional development opportunities and an extensive support network.

IBO mission statement The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

4. What is PYP? PYP includes all student activities, academic and non academic for which the school takes responsibility. It is for pupils aged 3-12. It is a transdisciplinary programme of international education that focuses developing the whole child, encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development through concept driven inquiry. It combines the best research & practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge & experience from international schools to create a relevant and engaging educational framework.

5. The Primary Years Programme at Kennedy: Includes all students. Is an approach that is compatible with the English National Curriculum. Will be supported by all staff and adults in the school community. Will extend & build on current good practice in teaching and learning. Will deepen students understanding through in depth inquiry.

14. PYP Implementation ESF wide decision to become PYP schools - 2005 Kennedy has been a candidate school since April 2008. All primary teachers have received IB training - August 2008 Students will begin working on inquiries during this academic year. The process of becoming a PYP school is expected to take between 2 and 3 years.
