For example, developers can run “workstation up --app www” - and reliably have the www app running along with its dozens of transitive dependencies. It truly is reliable - requiring no additional configuration - and just continues to work.

I'll share what technological limitations I had before using Docker and how I managed to solve them, and also some tips to getting started. As a closing, I'll talk about the Whaleprint project and some key features that we would love to see in docker today.

In this talk we will discuss how we enabled decomposition of one of our 250+ system components into a continously deployed microservice cluster.
This includes building a standardized Docker server composed of various local companion services along side the Docker daemon including: dynamic service discovery via Consul, a log relay to a centralized Elasticsearch cluster, and forwarding/batching of Dropwizard metrics to Graphite.
Building on this we'll cover our Jenkins driven automated pipeline for building Docker images and rolling deployments via Ansible using static placement on existing infrastructure while prototyping dynamic placement using Docker + Apache Mesos.

The ModCloth Platform team has been building a Docker-based continuous delivery pipeline. This presentation discusses that project and how we build containers at ModCloth. The topics include what goes into our containers; how to optimize builds to use the Docker build cache effectively; useful development workflows (including using fig); and the key decision to treat containers as processes instead of mini-vms. This presentation will also discuss (and demo!) the workflow we’ve adopted for building containers and how we’ve integrated container builds with our CI.
In this talk, we will discuss the construction of a CI/CD pipeline consisting of Docker Engine, GitHub, Jenkins, Docker Registry and calm.io. The pipeline will be kicked off by a commit to a GitHub repository. The commit will cause Jenkins to run a build job and, upon successful completion of that job, push a Docker image up to Docker Registry. Once the new docker image is made available, Jenkins will trigger calm.io to deploy the new images on staging and production systems.

Doing development and test for an application on your laptop or a single server is an effective and quick way to ensure functionality, but can be limiting for larger applications. When the application is ready to deploy into production using containers, you’re going to want to use more than one server to increase resources and provide distributed availability. There are a large number of orchestration platforms for Docker which allow you to define an application consisting of one or more containers, and then coordinate deploying the application across small and large farms of servers. In this session we will concentrate on the three most popular orchestration platforms: Mesos, Kubernetes, and Docker Swarm. We will learn how each of them defines an application, some of their strengths, some weaknesses, and why you might choose one over another.

In this talk, we will provide a 10,000-ft. overview of the key concepts, architectures, and common deployment scenarios for stateful services. We will cover the Docker volumes and available storage options in the community including ClusterHQ’s Flocker volume manager. After getting the lay of the land, we'll see these concepts in action. Starting by deploying a database container on a single node with UCP, Flocker and VolumeHub. Then, using the features of Docker Swarm and Flocker, we will then allow Swarm to automatically reschedule the stateful service along with Flocker moving its volume when the node fails giving us a HA containerized database.

The technology industry has been abuzz about cloud workload containerization since the open source Docker project became a phenomenon in early 2014.
Meanwhile, an OpenStack Containers Team was formed and the Magnum project launched to provide users with a convenient Containers-as-a-Service solution for OpenStack environments.
As the potential of both technologies emerged, many wanted to see shared governance over the baseline container specification and runtime technology to ensure an open cloud ecosystem.
This past June, a new group was formed with a goal of creating open, industry standards around container formats and runtimes, called the Open Container Initiative (http://www.opencontainers.org).
So how will OpenStack Magnum influence - and be influenced by - the new OCI group? Why is the OCI under the stewardship of the Linux Foundation? What is the scope of the OCI effort? What project goals and/or principles will guide their work?

Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes.
