Rafael Fernández is a retired civil engineer who started a winery called Fernández-Herrero Winery (Irving wines) as a hobby after retirement. He purchased land in Huéscar, Granada and established vineyards and a winery, drawing on his past experience helping to repair wineries as a civil engineer. The winery produces wine using ecological methods, with aging done solely in oak barrels. Rafael's favorite and highest scoring variety is Syrah. However, the winery only produces for domestic Spanish consumption and a small amount for his daughters abroad, as export is very difficult due to competition.
