Do you smoke and if so why?
For this question some people told that they have never smoked and don’t plan
on doing it at all. There were some that smoked in the past but have stopped
either recently or in the last couple of months and finally there was some who
had continued to smoke even to this day.
How do you think people start smoking?
For this question the people I asked gave mixed opinions on this question. Some
people said that they believe people start smoking to fit in with a curtain type of
people. They do it to act cool and make new friends. Some people said they got
into because their parents did I they would see them do it and believed it was
okay for them to do. Also a answer was because it helps with stress as it takes
away every worry you have and you just chill out and smoke a cigarette. The
final answer I got was because they just wanted to smoke and there was no
reason behind it was just a conscious decision, which they made and then they
went with it.
Why do you think people smoke?
This question was answered very similar to the previous question in that people
said they do it to fit in with a friendship group or to act cool to get friends if they
are having problem to do so. Also they believed that their parents or even
adverts about it that they will see in on the T.V could influence people. People
see it as something that potentially there ideals do so they believe to do it as well.
Also it can depend on the people they hang around.
What is your opinion on smoking?
People opinion on smoking was that it is bad for the health and there are more
negatives to it than there are positives. It is more harmful than people may think
and it can be deadly for some people.
Do you think there is enough support for people who want to quit?
People believed there was a lot of help on the internet or if you knew were to
look but if you don’t know were to look or you relies on the T.V there is limited
stuff on there. They said that there are not many adverts about the subject. But
they think that when you find the hep it is very informative and will help them
quit smoking but they believe that some people look for help and think it will just
happen and there will be no process to it but when they find out it could take a
while they give up before they even get started. One of the people who took the
interview has stopped smoking because of one of these helplines and said they
are very helpful but you have to be willing to do and commit to it. The services
are very nice and welcoming and they know what they are talking about and
they want to help you with your problem no matter how big.
Do you know about second hand smoke?
Most people had heard of this but didn’t know exactly what it was and some
knew what it was. Most of the people I interviewed they said they don’t have to

2. worry about this though because when they smoke they are not around children
so it will not harm them. When I told people what it is they were shocked on how
it can affect children. They didn’t release that if hey smoked around a child it
could cause more pain for the child than the person smoking. They wanted to
know if there was a law against this, which at this moment there is only a law
against people smoking with children in a car but not around them.
Do you know about the health problems that are caused by smoking?
Most people knew about the effects of smoking but some didn’t know about
every one like for instance when I said I could cause blindness they were
surprised about this. The people who smoked believed though that there is risks
with everything that you do so not only smoking can be a cause of an illness,
which is true, but also smoking will make this problem occur quicker than it
would if it was just to happen. The people who didn’t smoke didn’t understand
from the effects there is they couldn’t understand why people still do it knowing
what the risks are.
What age do you think people start getting into smoking?
The answer to this question was mixed, as most people believed that you would
start depending on different scenarios. For example some people said that
people get into smoking when they are teenagers as they think it is cool and they
want to impress there friends. Also some people said later on in life when you
are stressed with problems that you may have so you might start then. So it
depends on when you are introduced to it also if your parents did it then there is
a good chance you will start as soon as you get the opportunity to as you don’t
see the problem with it as your parents do it.
Do you think smoking should be banned?
People who don’t smoke believed there is no benefits to it so there is no reason
for it so why not just ban it but the people who do it believed differently as they
said that most people know the risks so it is there fault if they are to get ill from
smoking. Though the believe there should be more rules in place for this like
around kids it should be banned with the harm it could cause children but it
should not completely be banned. If it was banned so many people would still be
alive as they would not of got cancer which led to there death but on the other
hand there is the possibility that these people would still of died to something
else but they would more likely to be around if they didn’t smoke and it would of
made them live for longer than they did.
Do you think it should be illegal to smoke around kids?
As previously stated people think there should be laws around it stopping it from
happening. For instance there should be a curtain distance between the person
smoking and the child. People believed there should have already be a law in
place as like with the smoking in a car with children. If they knew what it was
doing to there children they wouldn’t smoke around there children but because
they can not see the effects until it is to late they don’t worry about it but if they
could see they would think twice about it.
