Final project 390b
Andrew Yim proposes researching strategies for tutors to develop long-term relationships with ESL students. He conducted interviews with 4 Chinese students who discussed their experiences learning English. They struggled adapting to English classes in the US and wanted to improve their writing skills. Andrew found programs at some writing centers that encourage relationships between tutors and ESL students. He will continue his research, observe ESL conversation groups, and interview more students to understand how writing centers can better serve ESL students. His goal is to present his findings at the 2015 ECWCA conference and help tutors build confidence in ESL students and encourage independent learning.

- 1. Hifsa Hussain Media AS Coursework Interview In my interview I discovered that majority of the students do enjoy sixth form and 5/6 of the students said that they enjoy others company of other students, this shows that they would prefer to read about people they know and would be able to relate to, also 4/5 also said they enjoy their lessons, in magazine I will add a column about different subjects in every issue as it will attract them and show them what is on offer and what else is going which may attract them. I asked my research group what they would else they would like to see in the magazines which will attract them and that would read about they all said the same three things which were pictures of students for different reasons, and updates about the school so they stay up to date with the changes if there are any, also one student said about adding which clubs and events are for sixth form. The colours which kept reoccurring in the interviews were red, blue and purple, I will be using all these colours as they are bold colours as they attract students also they relate to the school. My front cover will have pictures all over it as my research group said they would prefer to see pictures than to see writing on the front cover as it won’t catch their eyes.
