3. Part E (Please attach to this application.)
On a separate sheet of paper prepare a detailed typewritten paragraph job description of your internship
that the internship agency has developed for you. This description must be professional in appearance and
correctly typed, with no spelling or grammatical errors. It will be sent to the agency supervisor and should
be a reflection of your best writing abilities.
The Office of Disability Services (ODS) is an agency that I would like to intern at for the Fall
2009 semester. At ODS I wish to work six hours per week and my primarily goal is to be trained to use
assistive technology; I will also assist in training student to use these devises. Assistive Technology is any
device that is used to maintain, or to improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
My second goal is contacting students with disabilities and meeting them to discuss academic concerns
and accommodations. Examples of accommodations and auxiliary aids include, but are not limited to:
qualified interpreters, note takers, extra time for exams, and educational materials in alternative format.
Referral for serious issues will be made to the appropriate professional (e.g., Disability Services Director,
Disabilities Specialist; CEO or SSS Counselor, depending on program). The next outcome that will be
obtained involves supporting students with disabilities in developing self-adovacy skills and encouraging
students to meet with professors to request appropriate adjustments. When appropriate, I will lend a hand
in contacting outside agenices (e.g., Office of Vocational Rehabilitation [OVR], and/or Blindness and
Visual Services [BVS]). When appropriate, I will review disability documentation and assist in assessing
appropriate accommodations; in addition to facilitate with the College Achievement Training Seminars
(CATS). As a student intern, I will be asked to serve as a reader/scriber for examinations for eligible
students. Student interns at ODS, such as myself, have the opportunity to participate in related research
under the direction of the Disability Services Director or the Disabilities Specialist. All contacts with
students must be documentd; this includes both telephone and face-to-face sessions. I am advised to use
discretion with their documents and strict confidentiality must be maintained. The objective of the
Internship is to give myself experience in a professional setting wherein the competencies Iâve gained
through course work can be applied and further developed.
On a second page prepare a typewritten paragraph describing the qualifications that you possess for
applying for this internship.
The dual degree of Elementary and Special Education obtained as an undergraduate student at
East Stroudsburg University has prepared my talents in the classroom to help all children succeed.
Working towards my Masters of Education in Instructional Technology and Pennsylvania Instructional
Technologist Specialist Certificate has developed further qualities for effective instructional theories and
practices. As a graduate student in the technology field I have developed my knowledge and learning
styles in many ways including research, technology pedagogy, technology integration and technical skills.
