They were fighting against inhumane working conditions and low wages.1909: First National Woman's Day to honour of the 1908 garment workers’ strike in New York, where women protested against working conditions.8 March 1908: 15,000 womenmarched through New York  City .They demanded shorter work hours,better pay, voting rights and an endto child labour.  They adopted the slogan "Bread andRoses", with bread symbolizingeconomic security and roses a betterquality of life.
