The Battersea dogs and cats home rescues neglected dogs and cats, giving them a better future and loving homes. Donations will help care for animals who are ill-treated and don't have enough food or water to survive. People should support this charity because it saves animal lives every day and stops cruelty, working to end animal neglect forever. The dogs receive therapy to overcome fears or aggression and are then adopted by caring owners.

100 for Change Communication November 2016Rene Herbst
This document is a letter from 100 for Change NPO inviting current and new donors to support their organization. They have identified three causes they support: education for underprivileged students, care for the elderly, and animal welfare. They plan to address these causes through initiatives like extra math lessons and life skills workshops at a local school, engaging retired teachers to assist students and the elderly, and educating children on animal welfare through activities at a local animal shelter. Donating R100 per month for two years would allow them to fund these objectives and make an impact in the local community.
Making use of surplus food - a presentation in Lewes for the Treasures from T...Paul Corney
I was asked to give this presentation after a screening of The Gleaners & I, a wonderful documentary about how the French allow 'pickers' (gleaners) to collect the surplus after harvests.
Plan Zheroes was invited by the organisers (Trevor Watson & Neil Thompson) who participated in the orginal knowledge cafe I ran in Lewes two years ago.
The annual report summarizes the Cape of Good Hope SPCA's activities and finances for the 2015/2016 fiscal year. Some key highlights include completing a major capital expansion project that rebuilt and upgraded the entire Animal Care Centre and facilities, treating over 50,000 animals, educating over 11,000 children, and generating over R3 million in free media publicity. Financially, income generation initiatives like charity shops and fundraising events helped achieve operational break-even despite capital investment costs. Donations from individuals, corporations, trusts and bequests totaled over R10 million and were critical to funding the organization's animal welfare work.
This document provides guidance on designing animal shelters. It emphasizes that shelters should provide warmth, comfort, security, companionship, protection from harm, access to exercise, and appropriate feeding. Specific design considerations include room and pen sizes, temperature control, ventilation, lighting, drainage, noise reduction, and durable materials. The layout should separate public and private areas and allow for future expansion. Common mistakes involve shelters being too small, noisy, or poorly planned. A quality shelter design focuses on the needs of the animals and staff.

The approach focuses on building understanding, relationships, and commitment within communities to develop sustainable solutions. It involves community assessments, stakeholder workshops to share perspectives and identify root causes of issues, and action planning workshops where communities prioritize problems and solutions. The approach was piloted in several locations, where it led communities to take ownership and develop original, creative plans focusing on animal welfare. Challenges included maintaining momentum, but benefits included less blaming and different viewpoints not blocking solutions. The approach requires patience and recognizes that sustainability involves relationship-building skills rather than specific dog-related interventions.
Dogs Trust, with the help of Animal Rights Protection Lithuania, has undertaken two investigations looking at the illegal import of puppies across the EU. Despite conclusive evidence from the 1st investigation being presented to the EU and national government along with a series of urgent recommendations set out by Dogs Trust to help curb the trade, the puppy trafficking trade has continued unabated. In early 2015, Dogs Trust went back into Eastern Europe to highlight that the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) is still being used as a cover by commercial breeders and dealers in Lithuania and Romania on a regular basis to illegally import puppies, often in horrendous conditions, and transporting them thousands of miles without their mothers.

ICAWC 2015 - I Second that Emotion - Carolyn MenteithDogs Trust
This document discusses how a dog's behavior is driven by underlying emotions like fear, pleasure, and frustration. It explains that to change problem behaviors, one needs to change the emotion driving it by replacing negative emotions with more positive ones through training. The document advocates for using positive reinforcement to increase behaviors by providing pleasure, rather than positive punishment which increases fear and can make behaviors worse. It concludes that dogs will repeat behaviors that bring them pleasure or relief from negative stimuli through training.

19. Snippet from Beirut But... I assure you that since my training with Dogs Trusts in March, I have learned a lot and we have achieved a lot more. It was indeed a wonderful experience and taught me a lot of things. The main thing that I focused on and brought back with me is the "positive" side if things! For example, before, all our dispatches showed very graphic pictures of tortured animals and the stories were too negative, but now, ever since my training we have been showing somewhat happier pictures and the stories are sad but always have a more positive side to them and we have seen that more and more people are reading our stories and enjoying the pictures. They do not "delete" the email but instead read it... Which is a great thing for us because we want people to know what is going on here, we are giving hope and showing the positive side of things and not only the negative. Also, we have made some changes to adoption procedures and that is working out much better for us and the animals! This all is making a change in people's attitudes towards Beta as a whole. Thank you for all! My kindest Regards to everyone at the Dogstrust... Joelle El-Massih Co-Founder, BETA, Lebanon
