Who is ACCT?
ACCT is a registered charity in Australia committed to sup-
porting the great work of theCentre forChild Development
(CCD) in Phnom Penh. The CCD is a Khmer-run facility that
saves at-risk children by providing food, safe shelter, emer-
gency relief, health care and education, literacy, medical
check-ups, child rights education and skills training.
ACCT is made up of a group of Australian volunteers, who
after meeting the children living at the CCD, became com-
mitted to making a real difference in just a few little lives.
We know that with some help these children can have a
future, and break out of the cycle of starvation, abuse and
exploitation.
How can you help?
The immediate and urgent goal of ACCT is to generate suf-
ficient funding to ensure the Centre for Child Development
(CCD) in Phnom Penh – home to over 50 children and a place
of day-time learning and support for many more children –
remains open. You can help in a number of ways by:
Joining the ACCT community and helping to raise aware-
ness about the plight of these children and the great work
of the CCD
• Making a donation - the smallest contribution is a huge help
• Sponsoring a child
• Choosing a donation package to fund such things as educa-
tion, food, clothing and basic living needs
• Fundraising by getting a group of friends, work colleagues,
your local school or sporting teams together to make a big
impact - we can help you with ideas
• Becoming a corporate donor and sponsoring the major oper-
ating costs of the CCD
FAQs
What happens to my money?
Nearly all of your donation/sponsorship goes to theCam-
bodianChildrenAgainst Starvation andViolenceAssocia-
tion (CCASVA) to run the CCD - 97% to be exact! What
about the other 3%? To provide our Australian donors
with a tax deduction, all donations to ACCT for the CCD
are processed by Rotary Australia World Community
Service Ltd (RAWCS) who charge us a 3% administration
fee. Not one cent is retained by ACCT. All our adminis-
tration and marketing costs are covered by our ACCT
members. The ACCT members are unpaid volunteers so
all their hard work is purely from the heart!
How is my sponsorship money or donation spent?
As a Cambodian NGO, CCASVA operates the CCD within
a detailed and approved expenditure budget, reviewed
and endorsed by ACCT. We receive monthly expenditure
reports from theCCD outlining how donations have been
spent. All donations and sponsorships made through
ACCT go directly to the running costs of the CCD and the
care of the children.
Can I be in contact with the children?
The short answer is ‘absolutely’! In fact we encourage
our sponsors to engage with their sponsored children to
show their support and care. We have seen many strong
bonds develop between our sponsors and the children
and think this is a positive aspect of our child program.
Is my donation tax deductible?
All donations made to ACCT over $2 are tax deductible
thanks to our partnership with RAWCS. Tax deductible re-
ceipts are issued monthly from RAWCS for the amount you
have donated. You can then present this receipt with your
annual tax return and claim it as a charitable donation.
