Kyiv,
Ukraine
Welcome to the International
Relations Lyceum 51!
We are glad to welcome
you in our lyceum!
Join us on an exciting
tour around it!
LOCATION OF OUR SCHOOL
Our school is located at 13,Pylyp Orlyk Street,in the
Pechersk district, right in the heart of the city. We are
neighbors with the Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada,
the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine & the
Administration of the President of Ukraine.
History of our school
Labour school 51 evolved from the
grammar school of Mariya
Levandovska, founded in 1889 as a
private primary school for
girls.
During the horrible years of the
World War II a German hospital
was situated in the school building.
And during Kyiv bombing the
bomb got into the school building
and destroyed the right wing.
Children came to school again in
1949 after the reconstruction of the
building.
History of our school
For many years the school
has been closely associated
with the Ministry of
Education of Ukraine. Thanks
to its co-operation with
academics, the school now
has a large collection of
valuable materials on lesson
structure and contents,
thematic testing and
knowledge evaluation. We
count many prominent
scientists, politicians and
business people among our
graduates.
Our Lyceum Today
Today the International
Relations Lyceum 51 is a
well-known institution
not only in Ukraine, but
also abroad.
The School has became
a place of knowledge, a
center for project
activities of students and
teachers.
Our lyceum has its flag, an emblem and an anthem.
Our motto is “There are many of
us, we are different but we live in
harmony”.
Our school has a lot of good teachers
We have lots of heroes today – sportsmen,
supermodels, media personalities. They come,
they have their 15 minutes of fame, and they go.
But the influence of good teachers stays with us.
They are the people who really shape our life.” (Jonathan Sack)
Lyceum’s structure comprises
three stages
Stage One –Primary, Forms 1-4
Stage Two – Middle School, Forms 5-9
Stage Three – Lyceum, Forms 10-11
During stages one and two, children are taught according to the curriculum of
the Intensive English Language School.
Competitive enrolment takes place for entry to the 1st form and to the three
departments of the 10th form.
At Lyceum stage there are three distinct departments: Foreign Languages,
Economics, and History. Students can choose from any of these according
to their interests, and desired future profession.
All departments provide intensive English language studies.
Our Lyceum is UNESCO ASP net participant.
There are 65 educational
institutions which participate
in the Project in Ukraine.
IRL51 joined the project in
1997.
Right here you can see the main
document that confirms the
status of the school like ASP
net participant. This is the
certificate that is signed by
UNESCO Director General,
Federico Mayor, who has
personally given it to our
school. We are very proud of
it. You can also see some
pictures of this ceremony.
We work according to four themes:
•World problems and the role of UN in
solving them;
•Human rights, democracy and tolerance;
•Other countries and cultures;
•Environmental issues.
The Lyceum traditionally marks the
special dates according to UNESCO
calendar.
IRL51 works in support of the four pillars
of learning for the 21st century: learning
to know, learning to do, learning to be
and learning to live together.

English is our favourite subject .
The books entitled “Meet Great Britain” and “Meet

language teachers of the Lyceum.
The books cover almost all the possible topics,
from Geography and History to Mass Media and
