machine that
converts heat
energy into
mechanical energy
using fossil fuels.
Majorly there are
two kinds of engine:
2 stroke engine
and 4 stroke engine.
Christian Huygens had invented the first
internal combustion engine.

3. oA two-stroke, or two-cycle,
engine is a type
of internal combustion
engine which
completes a power
cycle in only one
crankshaft revolution
and with two strokes, or
up and down
movements, of the
piston.

4.  1st stroke (compression
stroke): Engine intakes
fuel and compress it.
 2nd stroke (power
stroke): Spark plug
ignites fuel, the heat
energy produced
exerts ultimate power
on piston downwards.

 Lack of valves, which simplifies
construction and lowers weight.
 Can work in any orientation.
 Good power to weight ratio.
 Fire once every revolution, which gives a
significant power boost.
 Lack of lubrication system makes the
engine wear faster.
 Necessity of oil addition in the fuel.
 Low efficiency.
 Produce a lot of pollution.

6. A four-stroke engine
(also known as four-cycle)
is an internal
combustion engine
in which the piston
completes four
separate strokes
which constitute a
single
thermodynamic
cycle.

7.  1st stroke (intake): Air-fuel
mixture is drawn in.
 2nd stroke
(compression): Intake
fuel is then
compressed.
 3rd stroke (power
stroke): Fuel is ignited
with spark through
spark plug.
 4th stroke (exhaust):
Burned gases is pushed
out.

8. Drawback Advantage
 Lubricant system makes the engine more
wear resistant.
 More efficient than 2 stroke engine.
 No addition of oil in fuel, hence less
pollution.
 Complicated construction.
 Should work in horizontal position due to
lubrication.

9. 2 stroke engine 4 stroke engine
 Lighter weight.
 Operates in many positions.
 Higher power to weight ratio.
 Engine oil usually mixed with fuel.
 Louder operation.
 Higher engine speed.
 More vibration.
 Heavier weight.
 Operates in limited position.
 Lower power to weight ratio.
 Engine oil in a reservoir.
 Quieter operation.
 Slower engine speed.
 Smoother operation.

operations as it is smaller, light weight,
and easy to make.
 4 Stroke engines can used for heavy duty
operations as it is more wear resistant,
quite and more efficient.
