apidays Paris 2019 - API Adoption via A Code Playground by S Adeel Ali, APIMaticapidays
This document discusses developer experience (DX) with APIs and how to improve DX. It argues that the best DX is achieved by reducing the number of steps and time it takes for developers to make their first API call and get a "Hello World" response. This is done by providing documentation, code samples, SDKs/libraries, and assisted authentication to simplify the API usage process for developers. The goal is for developers to be able to use APIs as easily as other products without having to write extensive code.

User Experience: Building with Hypermedia for Other FolksNordic APIs
Why do certain technologies succeed in upending the development landscape while so many others fall to the wayside? Can we drive commercial success from technological choices we make on a daily basis?
SPA frameworks like React, and Angular, and opinionated libraries like Ruby on Rails, Spring and Django all share a common obsession with the user experience. Many of the worlds largest organizations grew relying on obsessive customer focus. What can we learn from this to enhance our API Design and Strategy?
In this talk we’ll explore how we can utilize hypermedia to improve experiences for our consumers and developers.
The document introduces agile methodology as an alternative to the waterfall model. It discusses that agile values individuals, working software, customer collaboration, and responding to change over comprehensive documentation and following a plan. The document also summarizes scrum, acceptance testing, story mapping, XP practices like test-driven development, and Jeff Patton's chess analogy for agile planning.

How to Talk about APIs (APIDays Paris 2016)Andrew Seward
One of the more challenging aspects of working with APIs is that outside of your own little tech bubble, nobody actually knows what an API is - despite being hopelessly dependent on APIs for their day to day lives. So how do you talk about APIs to the masses of people who have no idea what they are? You're going to have to do it - you'll need to talk to your non-technical colleagues about it, many of whom you're entirely dependent upon to improve your API or get it out to the masses; there'll be potential customers out there for whom your API is the exact solution to the problem they're having and there's the people you meet who ask you what it is you do.
In this talk we'll discuss how overcome this huge challenge for all of us in the business of APIs, how to establish not just a clear ubiquitous language when talking about our APIs but clarity and consistency of content - making sure your developers, salespeople, support and marketing are all talking about your APIs in a way that is accessible, meaningful and useful to all concerned, and how that consistency of understanding can be the difference between the success or failure of your API.

Jochen Gürtler reflects on his 20-year career at SAP, which began as an ABAP and Java developer and included roles as a development architect, product owner, development manager, and innovation manager. Throughout his career, he invested in personal development through training programs in areas like coaching and design thinking. This allowed him to bring new perspectives to SAP while gaining skills to work independently. He recommends that employees invest in themselves, follow their inner compass, see their job pragmatically, stay curious through experiments, and create their own dream job. For managers, he recommends supporting employees' ideas and development plans.
This document provides advice on setting goals and creating a plan to achieve them. It discusses the author's changing career goals over time and how not having a plan led them to become obsolete. The author recommends focusing on processes over destinations by creating daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly plans that are reviewed and adjusted regularly. Specific tips include journaling, building an online portfolio and personal brand, attending meetups, trying new skills and technologies regularly, and practicing for interviews. The overall message is that having a plan and continuously learning helps one stay relevant as trends change.
The document proposes the idea of creating a web application that serves as a brainstorming platform. Some key features mentioned include allowing users to vote on ideas, view popular and latest ideas, and track the progress of ideas. It notes that existing platforms like Reddit and Ubuntu Brainstorm would be difficult to implement on shared hosting. The purpose would be to promote good ideas and criticism, without the need to wait for organizations. The potential business model involves online advertising. It concludes by requesting others to implement the idea if they are able to.

HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away
HCL Notes und Domino Lizenzkostenreduzierung in der Welt von DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-und-domino-lizenzkostenreduzierung-in-der-welt-von-dlau/

CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on BlockchainClaudio Di Ciccio
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
