- Daniel reads scriptures foretelling Jerusalem's desolation for 70 years as punishment for Israel's sins.
- He turns to God in prayer, fasting, and repentance, acknowledging Israel's sins of disobedience and rebellion against God's commands as the cause of their suffering.
- Daniel prays for God's forgiveness and mercy, citing that Israel deserves God's curses for breaking his covenant by not obeying the prophets as recorded in Deuteronomy. He requests God to show favor to his people again.

God intended for the Jews to live in the land he promised them. The problem is: this land was already occupied by other people. In telling the Jews to “take” the land, did God command genocide or ethnic cleansing? This is a difficult and often misunderstood part of the Old Testament history. How can a God of love be responsible for wiping out “innocent” people, for the sake of his own…or were they innocent?
The Prayer of Azariah and the accompanying Song of the Three Young Men form part of chapter three and embellish the story of Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, three young Jewish men who were bound and thrown into a fiery furnace for defying Nebuchadrezzar’s order to worship an idol.
Partick illustrates with references from the Bible, that "Peace of Mind" is possible even in today’s restless world if we do our part.

Slide 1: Title: Exploring the Mindfulness: Understanding Its Benefits
Slide 2: Introduction to Mindfulness
Mindfulness, defined as the conscious, non-judgmental observation of the present moment, has deep roots in Buddhist meditation practice but has gained significant popularity in the Western world in recent years. In today's society, filled with distractions and constant stimuli, mindfulness offers a valuable tool for regaining inner peace and reconnecting with our true selves. By cultivating mindfulness, we can develop a heightened awareness of our thoughts, feelings, and surroundings, leading to a greater sense of clarity and presence in our daily lives.
Slide 3: Benefits of Mindfulness for Mental Well-being
Practicing mindfulness can help reduce stress and anxiety levels, improving overall quality of life.
Mindfulness increases awareness of our emotions and teaches us to manage them better, leading to improved mood.
Regular mindfulness practice can improve our ability to concentrate and focus our attention on the present moment.
Slide 4: Benefits of Mindfulness for Physical Health
Research has shown that practicing mindfulness can contribute to lowering blood pressure, which is beneficial for heart health.
Regular meditation and mindfulness practice can strengthen the immune system, aiding the body in fighting infections.
Mindfulness may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity by reducing stress and improving overall lifestyle habits.
Slide 5: Impact of Mindfulness on Relationships
Mindfulness can help us better understand others and improve communication, leading to healthier relationships.
By focusing on the present moment and being fully attentive, mindfulness helps build stronger and more authentic connections with others.
Mindfulness teaches us how to be present for others in difficult times, leading to increased compassion and understanding.
Slide 6: Mindfulness Techniques and Practices
Focusing on the breath and mindful breathing can be a simple way to enter a state of mindfulness.
Body scan meditation involves focusing on different parts of the body, paying attention to any sensations and feelings.
Practicing mindful walking and eating involves consciously focusing on each step or bite, with full attention to sensory experiences.
Slide 7: Incorporating Mindfulness into Daily Life
You can practice mindfulness in everyday activities such as washing dishes or taking a walk in the park.
Adding mindfulness practice to daily routines can help increase awareness and presence.
Mindfulness helps us become more aware of our needs and better manage our time, leading to balance and harmony in life.
Slide 8: Summary: Embracing Mindfulness for Full Living
Mindfulness can bring numerous benefits for physical and mental health.
Regular mindfulness practice can help achieve a fuller and more satisfying life.
Mindfulness has the power to change our perspective and way of perceiving the world, leading to deeper se
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

15 “But if you will not obey the voice of the LORD your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you.
16 Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the field.
17 Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading
bowl.
18 Cursed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock.
19 Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out.
20 “The LORD will send on you curses, confusion, and frustration in all that you undertake to do, until you are
destroyed and perish quickly on account of the evil of your deeds, because you have forsaken me.
21 The LORD will make the pestilence stick to you until he has consumed you off the land that you are entering to take possession of it.
22 The LORD will strike you with wasting disease and with fever, inflammation and fiery heat, and
with drought and with blight and with mildew. They shall pursue you until you perish.
23 And the heavens over your head shall be bronze, and the earth under you shall be iron.
24 The LORD will make the rain of your land powder. From heaven dust shall come down on you until you are destroyed.
25 “The LORD will cause you to
be defeated before your enemies. You shall go out one way against them and flee seven ways before them. And you shall be a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
26 And your dead body shall be food for all birds of the air and for the beasts of the earth, and there shall be no one to frighten them away.
27 The LORD will strike
you with the boils of Egypt, and with tumors and scabs and itch, of which you cannot be healed.
28 The LORD will strike you with madness and blindness and confusion of mind,
29 and you shall grope at noonday, as the blind grope in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways. And you shall be only oppressed and robbed
continually, and there shall be no one to help you.
30 You shall betroth a wife, but another man shall ravish her. You shall build a house, but you shall not dwell in it. You shall plant a vineyard, but you shall not enjoy its fruit.
31 Your ox shall be slaughtered before your eyes, but you shall not eat any of it. Your donkey shall be
seized before your face, but shall not be restored to you. Your sheep shall be given to your enemies, but there shall be no one to help you.
32 Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, while your eyes look on and fail with longing for them all day long, but you shall be helpless.
33 A nation that you have not
known shall eat up the fruit of your ground and of all your labors, and you shall be only oppressed and crushed continually,
34 so that you are driven mad by the sights that your eyes see.
35 The LORD will strike you on the knees and on the legs with grievous boils of which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the
crown of your head.
36 “The LORD will bring you and your king whom you set over you to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known. And there you shall serve other gods of wood and stone.
37 And you shall become a horror, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples where the LORD will lead you away.
38 You
shall carry much seed into the field and shall gather in little, for the locust shall consume it.
39 You shall plant vineyards and dress them, but you shall neither drink of the wine nor gather the grapes, for the worm shall eat them.
40 You shall have olive trees throughout all your territory, but you shall not anoint yourself with the
oil, for your olives shall drop off.
41 You shall father sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours, for they shall go into captivity.
42 The cricket shall possess all your trees and the fruit of your ground.
43 The sojourner who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower.
44
He shall lend to you, and you shall not lend to him. He shall be the head, and you shall be the tail.
45 “All these curses shall come upon you and pursue you and overtake you till you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the LORD your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that he commanded you.
46
They shall be a sign and a wonder against you and your offspring forever.
47 Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joyfulness and gladness of heart, because of the abundance of all things,
48 therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger and thirst, in nakedness, and lacking
everything. And he will put a yoke of iron on your neck until he has destroyed you.
49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth, swooping down like the eagle, a nation whose language you do not understand,
50 a hard-faced nation who shall not respect the old or show mercy to the young.
51 It shall eat the offspring of your cattle and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed; it also shall not leave you grain, wine, or oil, the increase of your herds or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish.
52 “They shall besiege you in all your towns, until your high and fortified walls, in which you
trusted, come down throughout all your land. And they shall besiege you in all your towns throughout all your land, which the LORD your God has given you.
53 And you shall eat the fruit of your womb, the flesh of your sons and daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your
enemies shall distress you.
54 The man who is the most tender and refined among you will begrudge food to his brother, to the wife he embraces, and to the last of the children whom he has left,
55 so that he will not give to any of them any of the flesh of his children whom he is eating, because he has nothing else left, in the
siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in all your towns.
56 The most tender and refined woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because she is so delicate and tender, will begrudge to the husband she embraces, to her son and to her daughter,

afterbirth that comes out from between her feet and her children whom she bears, because lacking everything she will eat them secretly, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in your towns.

this glorious and awesome name, the LORD your God,
59 then the LORD will bring on you and your offspring extraordinary afflictions, afflictions severe and lasting, and sicknesses grievous and lasting.
60 And he will bring upon you again all the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you.
61 Every
sickness also and every affliction that is not recorded in the book of this law, the LORD will bring upon you, until you are destroyed.
62 Whereas you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, you shall be left few in number, because you did not obey the voice of the LORD your God.
63 And as the LORD took delight in doing you good
and multiplying you, so the LORD will take delight in bringing ruin upon you and destroying you. And you shall be plucked off the land that you are entering to take possession of it.
64 “And the LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other, and there you shall serve other gods of wood and stone,
which neither you nor your fathers have known.
65 And among these nations you shall find no respite, and there shall be no resting place for the sole of your foot, but the LORD will give you there a trembling heart and failing eyes and a languishing soul.
66 Your life shall hang in doubt before you. Night and day you shall be in
dread and have no assurance of your life.
67 In the morning you shall say, ‘If only it were evening!’ and at evening you shall say, ‘If only it were morning!’ because of the dread that your heart shall feel, and the sights that your eyes shall see.
68 And the LORD will bring you back in ships to Egypt, a journey that I promised that you
should never make again; and there you shall offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer.”

24. Consequences of sin
He has confirmed his words, which he spoke
against us and against our rulers who ruled us, by
bringing upon us a great calamity. For under the

written in the Law of Moses, all this calamity has
come upon us; yet we have not entreated the

Therefore the LORD has kept ready the calamity
and has brought it upon us, for the LORD our God

we have not obeyed his voice. And now, O Lord

land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and have made
a name for yourself, as at this day, we have
sinned, we have done wickedly.

presenting my plea before the LORD my God for

38. God answers prayers
He made me understand, speaking with me and
saying, “O Daniel, I have now come out to give
you insight and understanding. At the beginning
of your pleas for mercy a word went out, and I
have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly
loved. Therefore consider the word and

Daniel 9:22-23 38
39. God gave him what he needed
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do
not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit
himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for
words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the
mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the
saints according to the will of God.

All Israel has transgressed your law and turned aside, refusing to obey your voice. And the curse and oath that are written in the Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out upon us, because we have sinned against him.
The curses for disobedience (Deut. 27:14–26; 28:15–68)
The reasons (Deut. 27:14–26): The Levites are to proclaim a curse on the following people:
those who make idols (Deut. 27:15)
those who despise their parents (Deut. 27:16)
those who move boundary markers (Deut. 27:17)
those who lead the blind astray (Deut. 27:18)
those who are unjust to foreigners, orphans, or widows (Deut. 27:19)
those who commit incest of various sorts (Deut. 27:20, 22–23)
those who practice bestiality (Deut. 27:21)
those who commit murder or accept payment to do so (Deut. 27:24–25)
those who do not obey the law (Deut. 27:26)
The results (Deut. 28:15–68): If the people do not obey the laws that the Lord gives them, they will experience curses.
Destruction in the land (Deut. 28:15–24, 26–31, 33–35, 38–48): Disobedience will result in diseases, plagues, famine, drought, dust storms, defeat in war, infertility, constant fear and frustration, and the enslavement of their children.
Dispersion from the land (Deut. 28:25, 32, 36–37, 48–68): Disobedience will also cause the Israelites to be surrounded by their enemies, reduced to cannibalism, removed from the land, enslaved, and dispersed among the nations. They will become a proverb and an object of horror and mockery among the nations, and they will find no rest there. The Lord will cause them to tremble and despair. They will live in constant fear, with no reason to believe that they will survive.
He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against our rulers who ruled us, by bringing upon us a great calamity. For under the whole heaven there has not been done anything like what has been done against Jerusalem. As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this calamity has come upon us; yet we have not entreated the
favor of the LORD our God, turning from our iniquities and gaining insight by your truth.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Therefore the LORD has kept ready the calamity and has brought it upon us, for the LORD our God is righteous in all the works that he has done, and we have not obeyed his voice. And now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and have made a name for yourself, as at this day, we have sinned, we have done wickedly.
Evil
Distress
Misery
Unhappiness
Unpleasantness
Any of these in your life? Dumpster fires usually don’t start spontaneously
O Lord, according to all your righteous acts, let your anger and your wrath turn away from your city Jerusalem, your holy hill, because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people have become a byword among all who are around us. Now therefore, O our God, listen to the prayer of your servant and to his
pleas for mercy, and for your own sake, O Lord, make your face to shine upon your sanctuary, which is desolate. O my God, incline your ear and hear. Open your eyes and see our desolations, and the city that is called by your name. For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great
mercy. O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act. Delay not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.”
God’s forgiveness is based on His righteousness
…listen to the prayer of your servant and to his pleas for mercy, and for your own sake make your face to shine upon your sanctuary
God’s favor is not bargained for
Our prays adjust our hearts
Daniel 9:19 (ESV)
19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act. Delay not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.”
While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my plea before the LORD my God for the holy hill of my God, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening sacrifice.
Isaiah 65:24 (CEV) I will answer their prayers before they finish praying.
He made me understand, speaking with me and saying, “O Daniel, I have now come out to give you insight and understanding. At the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out, and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly loved. Therefore consider the word and understand the vision.
Romans 8:26–27 (ESV)
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Repentance is a righteous thing
We need to own our part of the problem
God will give you what you need
