This document summarizes different types of intentional injuries including self-inflicted injuries, assault, sexual victimization, domestic violence, bullying, cyberbullying, stalking, extortion, gang violence, fraternity violence, kidnapping, terrorism, verbal abuse, and sexual abuse. It defines and provides examples for each type of intentional injury.

2. INTENTIONAL INJURIES are injuries resulting
from violence.
 can be divided into: Self inflicted, Assault and
sexual victimization

3. Self-inflicted injury
–When a person harms
himself/herself on purpose.
–Ex. Suicide, Parasuicide

4. Assault
–When a person harm another on
purpose.

5. Classification of Assault
1. Those that were committed within the
family
2. Those that are committed by peers
3. Those that are committed by other group
4. Those that are committed by the family

6. Sexual victimization
May be committed by the family peers or
other people
Ex. verbal abuse, incest, molestation, rape

7. Domestic Violence
–Is an act that includes Physical Assault
Ex. Name –calling, keeping your partner from
contacting their family or friends, denying or
withholding money, stopping from getting a job,
physical harm, sexual assault, stalking

8. BULLYINGI is an unwanted, aggressive
behavior.
CLASSIFICATION OOF BULLYING
1. VERBAL BULLYING- saying or writing mean
and nasty things.
Ex. Teasing, Name-calling, Taunting, Threatening
to cause harm, making inappropriate sexual

9. 2. SOCIAL BULLYING- hurting someone’s
reputation or relationship
Ex. Telling other children not to be friends with
someone, spreading rumors about someone,
embarrassing someone in public

10. 3. PHYSICAL BULLYING- hurting a person’s
body or destroying his/her possessions.
Ex. Hitting/kicking/pinching, spitting,
tripping/pushing, taking or breaking
someone’s things, making mean or rude
gestures

11. CYBERBULLYING-verbal and social bullying
done through use of technology and electronic
means.
Ex. Using Social media(i.e. fb,twitter)
Using mobile devices(cellphone)
Using electronicsmails( e-mail,messenger)

12. STALKING-is a pattern of behavior that
makes you feel afraid, nervous, harassed or in
danger.
STALKING BEHAVIOR INCLUDES:
-knowing your schedule
-showing up at places you go to
-sending email and pictures
- calling or texting repeatedly
-damaging your property

13. EXTORTION- is the act of using force or
threats to force people to hand over their
money over their properties on favors.
- can happen inside/near the school

14. GANG AND YOUTH VIOLENCE- is defined as a
relatively tough, mostly street-based group of
young people who regard themselves and may
be seen by others as a group that engages in a
range of criminal activity and violence.

15. ILLEGAL FRATERNITY-RELATES VIOLENCE- is a
group of people with similar backgrounds,
occupations, interests, or tastes.
-In campuses and universities, fraternities are
presented Greek letter.

16. KIDNAPPING AND ABDUCTION- is taking away
or forcefully moving a person against his/her
will and holding his/her will and holding
him/her in unjust captivity.

17. ACTS OF TERRORISM- is the use of violence for
political goals and putting the public or a great
number of people in fear. The purpose of the
group is to produce terror in their victims.

18. CLASSIFIACTION OF TERRORISM
1. STATE TERRORISM- states or government can
use force or the threat of force without
declaring war, to terrorize their citizens and
achieve political goal

19. 2. BIOTERRORISM- refers to the intentional
release of toxic biological agents to harm and
to terrorize civilialians.
3. CYBERTERRORISM- is the use of information
technology to attack civilians and draw
attention to the terrorist’s cause.

20. 4. ECOTERRORISM- the use of violence in the
interests of environmentalism.
- Environmental extremist destroy property to
inflict economic damage on industries.
5.NUCLEAR TERRORISM-refers to a number of
different ways nuclear materials might be used
as a terrorist tactic.

21. 6. NARCOTERRORISM-the use of violence by
drug traffickers to influence governments or
prevent government efforts in stopping the
drug trade.

22. VERBAL ABUSE- is a form of cruelty
that involves the use words.
CHARACTERISTICS
- Hurtful and usually attacks the nature and
abilities of the person
- Obvious through angry outburst or name-calling

24. SEXUAL ABUSE- is sexual contact
between persons who are closely related
that a marriage between them is
considered illegal
1. MOLESTATION- is the sexual abuse f a
person(wether child or adult)by an adult
for sexual pleasure or for profit.

25. 2. RAPE-is forced sexual intercourse, including
vaginal, anal, oral penetration. Penetration
may be by body part or an object.
