Institution Research

At the present time, the most profitable genre is currently Comedy, however, Horror and Thriller are both in the top 10 (our movie is a hybrid of the two genres), and the most commonly used Antagonist is usually Zombies and Vampires. The top selling Horror film of all time was Jaws, as this was quite a common fear in America at the time.

In 2007 there was a massive increase in ticket sales, as this is when their was a massive increase in the amount of zombie films, some of them being 28 Weeks Later and 30 Days Of Night. However, the following year there was a drastic decrease in the number of tickets sold, the only two explanations for this are that in 2007, there where more horror films released than 2008, but also it could just be that the general public had got tired of the Horror genre. Also, 2008 was also the year that the recession started, which would of hindered the film companies on how many they can make, an also the quality.

The opening sequence we are making is very similar to The Hills Have Eyes. The distributor to this was 20th Century Fox, famous for films such as James Cameron’s Avatar and Star Wars. Other top Horror contributors are Miramax, Paramount Pictures and New Line.

Top Facts

Horror
295 Movies
Total Gross - $8,623,164,940
Average Gross - $29,231,068
Market Share – 4.82%

Thriller
485 Movies
Total Gross $13,343,947,659
Average Gross - $27,513,294
Market Share – 7.47%
