Why Inspiration Matters ?
• “When your Daemon is in charge, do not try to think consciously. Drift, wait, and
obey.“ — Rudyard Kipling
• In a culture obsessed with measuring talent and ability, we often overlook the
important role of inspiration. Inspiration awakens us to new possibilities by
allowing us to transcend our ordinary experiences and limitations. Inspiration
propels a person from apathy to possibility, and transforms the way we perceive
our own capabilities. Inspiration may sometimes be overlooked because of its
elusive nature. Its history of being treated as supernatural or divine hasn’t helped
the situation. But as recent research shows, inspiration can be activated,
captured, and manipulated, and it has a major effect on important life outcomes.
• Pyschologists Todd M. Thrash and Andrew J. Elliot have noted these core aspects
of inspiration: evocation, transcendence, and approach motivation.
How to get inspired when you want to
start a business?
INNOVATION
• Innovation—the word brings up images of scientists in lab coats and
entrepreneurs with revolutionary inventions. Although these scenarios are an
important part of the picture, being innovative today should be seen in a much
broader context.
• Innovation is really about responding to change in a creative way. It's about
generating new ideas, conducting R&D, improving processes or revamping
products and services. At another level, it's also about a mindset in your
business: One where your staff, whether in the executive offices or on the shop
floor, are always focused on continuous improvement and constantly thinking
outside of the box.
• “Innovation is anything, but business as usual.”
What is innovation? Building a more
creative business
• In a highly competitive business environment, companies can no longer
compete simply on tangible assets such as the latest equipment, or by
offering the lowest cost to customers. The ability to innovate also affects your
market potential and provides you with a means of competing
against emerging markets, a shrinking labour force and accelerated
technological change. In fact, innovation has become a key strategy to attract
and retain your customers in a fickle market.
• If your company doesn't innovate, it risks falling behind in productivity, losing
customers and market share or simply disappearing.
