innovation spirit - an eight steps formula for global corporations Between 2005 and 2010 I was able to start and lead a global innovation initiative in a service company with more than 100,000 employees. I was interested to create an „innovation spirit“. As part of my teaching assignment at the Mannheim Business School, I was able to meet with many innovation managers and leaders of other global companies, like BMW, Deutsche Bank, Google, HCL, IBM, IDEO, Lufthansa, SAP, TCS, Telekom and TUI and analyze their innovation processes. From this I developed an 8-point plan, which I have already presented more than 30 times across the world - from America via Europe to Asia. 1. Create a mantra 2. Involve all 3. Mobilize pirates 4. The number of banks in the US and in Germany halved between 1990 and 2012. Traditional banking is under pressure by at least 4 mega trends in banking: Increase of regulation, legacy technology, consolidation and changing customer behaviour.
By 2016 the number of Internet capable mobile devices will reach more than 4 billion devices globally and smart phones are already used always and everywhere.
The future is always here – it’s just not evenly distributed yet. You can see this if you take a look at digital natives, the usage of phones in Africa, Google wallet and Square.
For banks it will become critical to position themselves in the world of customer experience much earlier.
The MyPrivateBanking Mobile Applications Report 2011 gives banks on average a score of 35 out of 100 points. Major critiques are “only simple basis services”, “mainly useless information”, “available only for iPhone” and “security issues”. A look at current mobile banking offerings does not disprove the report. They are mainly static, text based and lack of visual experience.
But you can think different about mobile banking. Actually you can build native apps for all platforms that are highly dynamic and provide an experience, e.g. by making use of augmented reality technology embedded in customers’ life. Banks may be able to win back the car loan business at the point of sale and embed mobile and tablet technologies in their sales processes.
Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s “Kaching” and moven are examples of what can be done.

The machine age has already begun. Traditional payment systems were built for people, not machines. IOTA is a promising platform for efficient M2M payments and the machine age. There are several interesting IOTA ecosystem projects and rapidly growing patent applications. The crypto currency IOTA is still a very risky investment, but with great potential. The IOTA Foundation should focus on projects and activities that keep an eye on the growth of M2M / IoT payments and volumes.

Since peaking at just under $ 20,000 on December 17, 2017, Bitcoin has lost more than three-quarters of its value. In January 2019, the price was a little over USD 3,000. In August 2013, Samarth Shekhar had the idea for the FinTech Forum, which we then implemented together within a few days. Since then, we have identified and analyzed more than 800 FinTechs from German-speaking countries. As part of 17 “FinTech Forum” and “FinTech Forum on Tour” events, we got to know 270 startups and founders and over 100 investors in person. Currently, the Bitcoin is located in the Gartner valley of disappointment. Already the fourth time! A good time for an analysis.
Since peaking at just under USD 20,000 on December 17, 2017, Bitcoin has lost a good two-thirds of its value. And according to Google Trends even more than 80% interest. In terms of Gartner terminology: the Bitcoin is currently in the Valley of Disappointment. More precisely, currently the fourth time, after June 2011, April 2013 and December 2013.
A good time to look into it.
APIs - the oil pumps of the 21st century
APIs pump data. And at traditional banks from the depths of their IT landscapes. APIs make the Internet machine-readable and often form the basis of successful e-commerce business models.
Twitter, Netflix, Google, Facebook and eBay are members of the club of API billionaires. From their partners and customers all of them have more than 1 billion API calls daily. That is the way they are significantly increasing advertising and sales reach - completely automated.

FinTech is a major development driver in the banking industry and will be indispensable for the implementation of financial transactions in the near future. For financial advisors, the question arises as to how digital products and FinTech affect their work.
Financial services (Fin) and technology (Tech) have always been closely linked. So it is not surprising that digitization in the past has been driven by banks, asset managers and insurance companies. More than 700 FinTechs in German-speaking countries are accelerating this development.

Financial services (Fin) and technology (Tech) have always been closely linked. So it is not surprising that digitization in the past has been driven by banks, asset managers and insurance companies. More than 700 FinTechs in German-speaking countries are accelerating this development.
But how do digital products and FinTech affect the work of financial advisers? Do the associated technologies only change the rules of the game, or are new bases for financial advice created? And what stumbling blocks are there on the way from the classic system to the digital one?
