This document provides a treatment and storyboard for a short film opening sequence about a clown. The sequence begins with establishing shots of the clown at night and a little girl seeing him from her window. There are then flashbacks showing the clown's traumatic childhood, including scenes of his parents arguing and him being afraid of a clown doll. The sequence returns to the present where the clown applies his makeup and the girl goes outside, where the clown appears and offers her a balloon before grabbing her hand and walking away with her as the balloon floats into the sky.
An analysis of the opening to 'The Conjuring' (2013). The link is on the first slide and although the quality i used isn't great, it was good enough for this.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Initial ideas for opening sequence
1. Opening Sequence:
Initial Ideas
On the next few slides, we have our treatment, shot list, timeline and story board for
out initial ideas. We didn't end up filming this as on the day of shooting, we changed a
range of shots and we changed some parts towards the end as we thought it would
suit out convention and build up more tension. We made the changes which can be
seen in our first draft.

2. 00:00 - 00:08
The opening sequence begins with a pan from bottom to top to show the CLOWN. It's late and isolated.
Then there is an establishing shot to show the CLOWN standing in the middle of the road and he is holding
a balloon in his hand.
00:08 - 00:18
The little GIRL is staring at the CLOWN from her window. Next, a shot of her face from the other side of
the window to show that SHE is looking at the CLOWN. Then the CLOWN is staring back at her.
00:18 - 00:27
A flashback to when the CLOWN was a younger boy. His parents are shouting/arguing, so he can hear
their screams in the background. He is sitting down in the corner of a room playing/torturing a clown doll.
00:27 - 00:30
Flashback to reality and the CLOWN is in the bathroom. The bathroom looks dirty and destroyed. He is
laying out his clown makeup, which is shown by a close up on his hands slowly and calmly. One by one..
00:30 - 00:40
There is another flashback to his childhood. He is in his bed trying to sleep, but he is unable to as he sees
that the clown is staring directly at him from his shelf. The fear in his eyes are shown by extreme close up
shots, following a close up shot of the clowns eyes.

3. 00:40 - 00:52
Flashback to reality again and the CLOWN is slowly putting on his makeup. He does a creepy smile when he is finished with
his lips. Then random parts of his face are shown whilst he is putting on the rest of the makeup. He goes to close the mirror
cabinet which reveals his whole face.
00:52 - 01:17
The little GIRL leaves the window with her toy and walks out of her room and down the stairs. She leaves the door open
behind her. She drops her toy on the floor outside and bends down to get it. When she looks up again, the clown
disappears.
01:17 - 01:30
She pauses for a couple of seconds. She look confused but thinks nothing of it. She is looking down at the ground whilst
turning around. She looks up to start walking and the CLOWN is standing there blocking her way.
01:30 - 01:47
She stares up at a CLOWN from a low angle to make her look vulnerable. The clown looks down at the GIRL and gives her a
creepy smile from a high angle to emphasise his power over her. He says 'Hi sweetie, would you like this balloon?' in a
slow/soft voice.
01:47 - 01:52
Her face looks confused and as she is about to say something, the CLOWN puts fingers on her mouth whilst bending down
to her size and whispers 'shhh'.
01:52 - 02:05
He goes to grab her hand which can be seen through a close up shot on their hands. They then go to walk away and this can
be seen through a two shot from behind them. Then the CLOWN lets go of the balloon and it fly's away into the sky.
