It was a delight to give a presentation with my friend and fellow IAI Board member Shari Thurow in Washington D.C. today at the User Experience Professionals Association conference.
Web Development for Mobile: GTUG Talk at GoogleEstelle Weyl
You no longer have to wait to use HTML5 and CSS3: in developing for mobile, you don't have to worry about archaic browser. Webkit, the browser engine found on Android and iPhone provide excellent support for CSS3 and HTML5. In this session we learn how we can use these new technologies to create mobile web applications.
iPhone Web Applications: HTML5, CSS3 & dev tips for iPhone developmentEstelle Weyl
Wouldn't it be cool to be able to use CSS3 and HTML5 unfettered by the lack of support in IE? Mobile developers for smart phones get to do just that!
When developing for iPhones, iPods, iPads and Android devices—mobile devices using webkit browsers—we can use CSS animations, transforms, multiple background images, rounded corners, text and box shadows, CSS columns, and HTML5 form elements.
In this session we'll use some CSS3 features learned in earlier session to create a native looking iPhone web app. We'll also cover some CSS UI and HTML5 form elements that will help you get up to speed on developing for mobile webkit. You don't have to wait any longer to use CSS3!

Keynote for Wikimedia UK GLAM-WIKI conference, British Library, London, April 12, 2013.
https://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM-WIKI_2013
Also presented at the National Museum, Denmark; Danish Broadcasting; Danskkulturarv.dk; the FIAT/IFTA conference; National Museum Congress, the Netherlands; Arts Council Norway annual conference; J. Boye, Copenhagen
Scope, scale, and speed are the focus of most of my work this year.
It’s one thing to support many data sources with megabytes of data. It’s a completely different problem supporting thousands of data sources with terabytes of data every day. How do you create systems that scale infinitely?
The answer is; you don’t . You can not design for infinite scalability. Rather, consider a pod approach where each pod supports a defined capacity. Scalability results from deployment of multiple cooperating pods.
Systems handling extremely large data sources with significant processing requirements are difficult at best to validate. Attempting to deploy such a system without well understood capacity limits is destined for failure.
This was first presented at Cloud Expo NYC.
HTML forms have been the bane of web developers for years. Not anymore!
With HTML5 you may learn to love forms. Imagine a day when you can validate a form without any JavaScript. Date pickers, place holder text, pattern matching, required fields, auto focus, error handling, all without JavaScript? That day is not as far off as you think. In this session we'll discuss new to HTML5 form input types and attributes. We can't promise that you'll love creating web forms, but you will gain a new, exciting appreciation.
We'll learn all about creating dynamic web forms with form validation without the use of javascript.
Sneak peak into the presentation...
The new HTML5 input types
Controlling what keyboard types gets displayed on touch keyboards, including the iPad and iPhone,
Placeholder Attribute: Adding native placeholder text and clearing on focus
Native form validation: Error messages with no javascript
Date & time input types: The jQuery datepicker, without jQuery.
Providing focus to a form element, including focus on invalid input without javascript.
CSS & Forms: Stylizing form elements based on current states of required and invalid
Pattern attribute - Pattern matching for form input: with regular expressions and no javascript
element and list attribute- providing autosuggest on inputs, again no javascript.
Browsers are beginning to support HTML5 web forms. In this session we'll learn how to implement them.
ELEMENTS IN ARCHITECTURE (SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON MUGHAL ARCHITECTURE)Sufi Abdul Hakeem
This presentation emphasises on how the elements of architecture are put together to bring out interesting structures. special emphasis is placed on the mughal architecture as this architectural style was a perfect blend of alll the fundamental design concepts like symmetry, hierarchy, rhythm, etc.
There is no question the world has gone digital. This has
greatly impacted consumers’ lives and brought about
dramatic changes in marketing. For women, who still
do the majority of household purchasing in America,
digital communications fulfill unique needs, which in
turn offer marketers more engaging ways to connect
buyers with their brands. So we set out to understand
how marketers can make best use of all that the digital
realm has to offer.
Selendroid is a test automation framework which drives of the UI of Android native and hybrid applications (apps). Tests are written using the Selenium 2 client API.
Selendroid can be used on emulators and real devices and can be integrated as a node into the Selenium Grid for scaling and parallel testing.
Features of selendroid
- The app under test must not be modified in order to automate it
- Between the native and the web context can be switched back and forth, which basically means the concept of automating native or hybrid apps are the same.
- Different locator types are supported to find elements
- Gestures are supported: Advanced User Interactions API
- Selendroid can interact with multiple Android devices (emulators or hardware devices) at the same time
- Existing Emulators are started automatically
- Selendroid supports hot plugging of hardware devices
- It can be integrated as a node into the Selenium Grid for scaling and parallel testing
- Multiple Android target API support (10 to 19)
- Build in Inspector to simplify test case development.

High Scalability by Example – How can Web-Architecture scale like Facebook, T...Robert Mederer
This presentation will examine the purpose and application of information architecture for the so-called ‘next generation’ of information tools, including blogs and wikis. We will introduce ‘needs based’ information architecture, the methodology used for organising and designing information-rich environments in a way that allows people to use them more easily. We will then look at how the best practice principles behind this approach apply equally well to emerging technologies.

The Mobile Shopper - From Armed to Charmed presentationOgilvy
For consumers and organizations it is not about mobile devices, but about new ways to access information, engage in conversation and interact with brands, services and their environment.
For Ogilvy, Mobile accelerates our programs, campaigns and platforms by augmenting it with utility, immediacy and contextuality. This presentation from OgilvyOne and OgilvyAction is a complimentary piece to the whitepaper.
Includes the definition, value, usage and history of heuristics as well as 10 principles with starter questions for use in an evaluation. (As presented most recently at Interaction 12 in Dublin)
"The Future of Selling" white paper by Brian Fetherstonhaugh, Chairman & CEO of OgilvyOne Worldwide, provides recommendations on how marketers can maximize sales using social media and features best-in-class examples from companies that are winning in the Social Selling space. It is based on a a four month research project conducted in the US, UK, Brazil and China and has been informed by interviews with over 30 sales experts.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
