INFORMAL LEARNING
CONTEXTS
RESENTED BY,
RINCY E
CSI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
PARASSALA
CONTEXTS
1. Music Room
2. Play Ground
3. Planetarium
INTRODUCTION
Informal learning is done by out side the school. Formal learning is
done in inside the school with a definite curriculum.
Informal learning “ learning by doing “
Formal learning “ doing by learning ”
MUSIC ROOM
• Music Room is an innovative British television music series
• It presents classical musicians and the play in a mannar normally
associated with popular music programing
• It is filmed in a bare studio with only scafold cube for a set
• The series has also been broadcast in canada and across South
America
• Informal learning always starts with music
• This learning is distinct from most formal educational settings
• In which main idea is Introduce learners to
music, that they don’t already know
• Which is selected by the teachers
• The music enters in curriculum at UK in
1790s and 1980s
• Popular music entered curriculum partly in the response to
criticisms
• Creative music movement was not pupil – centered
• A number of educationalist and teachers sought to reflect their
pupils musical taste by including popular music in their curriculum
• It is pragmatically, economically and also ideologically very
challenging for curriculum content
PLAY GROUND
• Play grounds are places were
children play can take off and
flourish
• Two fundamental reasons why
outdoor play is critical for young
children
• Many development tasks that children achieve in outdoor plays
They are,
1. Fine and gross motor development
2. Absorption of vast amounts of basis knowledge
3. Risk taking
• Basic knowledge can be most effectively learned through outdoor
plays
• Second, our culture is taking outdoor play away from young
children
The reasons are,
1. Excessive tv & computer use
2. Unsafe neighborhoods
3. Busy & tired parents
4. Inappropriate academics
• 0utdoor play enables young children to learn lots and lots of
things about the world
• Outdoor play child learns “learning by doing“ method
In the outdoor playground children learns,
1. Math, science, ecology
2. Gardening, ornithology, construction
3. Farming, vocabulary, seasons
4. Various times of the day & all about local weather
• Children learns basic and fundamental information,
remember what they learned because it was concrete
and personally meaningful
• To learn about their own physical and emotional
capabilities
• To learn about the physical world child must experiment
with the physical world
PLANETARIUM
A planetarium is a theatre built
primarily for presenting educational
and entertaining shows about
astronomy and the night sky or for
training in celestial navigation .
A dominant feature of most
planetarium is the large domeshaped
projection screen. The screen which
scenes of stars, planets and other
celestial objects can be made to
appear and move realistically and to
simulate the complex “motions of the
heaven “
• The celestial scences can be created using wide variety of
technologies
• Typical systems can be set to display the sky at any point of time,
past or present
• The planetariums range in size from the Hayden planetarium‘s 21
meter dome seating 423 people, three meter inflatable portable
domes were children sit on the floor
• Portable planetarium serves education programs
• Planetarium software refers to a software application that renders
a 3D computer screen
CONCLUSION
Informal learning is more effective than formal learning. Pupil learns
the world through experience. It gives many opportunities to child
to find their capabilities through learning by doing. In this method
pupil acquire the knowledge through sensory organs.
