Primary Industry Primary industries extract raw materials.  These are natural products and are untreated by humans e.g. Coal Oil Gas Wood Cotton Rubber
Secondary Industry Secondary goods are  manufactured.  This means that the raw materials are changed by one or more manufacturing processes.  This can be done by hand, by machines, by being heated or having water or chemicals added.  Petrol or plastics (Oil) Clothes (Cotton) Wine (Grapes)
Tertiary Industry Not making a product or producing a raw material.  Tertiary means providing a service to people and other industries.  The wealthier the country the more tertiary industry there is. Health – Doctors and Dentists Education – Teachers and Lecturers Retail – Supermarkets and stores Financial - Banks
Quaternary Industry This is an industry that has been around for the last 20 years.  It is linked to computers and technology.  Many large companies have Research and Development (R&D) departments that research and develop new products e.g. New BMW 7 Series New iPod Nano New iPhone New Nintendo Wii
