There are two types of induction motors: squirrel cage and slip ring. The speed of an induction motor is less than the synchronous speed due to slip, which is the difference between synchronous and induction motor speeds. Test results from no-load and blocked rotor tests are used to determine core and copper losses, with maximum efficiency achieved when losses are equal. Common starters for induction motors include star-delta, direct online, and auto-transformer starters, with torque proportional to the square of voltage and inversely proportional to the square of resistance and reactance.
