2. 1.In what ways has your product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
• SETTING: A conventional setting for thrillers is abandoned
places with low-key lighting and isolated places.
• We have decided to challenge this at the beginning of the
trailer and film in a public park with open space and Local
Street, this happens in the part when Gelsomina and Leticia
film each other waving at the camera walking towards the
park and also when Gelsomina points out to the sigh ‘Dollis
Hill Station’.
• On the other hand we also use the typical conventional
location of our possession scene. The isolated woods was a
perfect place to use as it showed that Leticia was helpless
and lost trying to find her friend Gelsomina which soon
becomes possessed. The woods also gave us a dark setting
with natural lighting.
3. 2. How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
• Compared to my first draft, my ancillary texts have
much more relation to the main product therefore the
more features from the plot I was adding to my poster
and magazine the more it was enforcing the
combination.
• The first thing I have changed between my drafts to
make the combination more effective was change the
theme colour from an innocent white to mysterious
black with a red bold title.
• Changing those colours have had a huge effect to the
combination with the main product as the black and
red enforced ‘possession’ scene.
4. 3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
• One thing I have learnt from my audience feedback was is
to try and challenge some of the conventions of thrillers
such as a different start and experiment with the pace as
well as making sure it is clear and not rushed too quickly.
• I have also learnt that lighting makes a difference to the
atmosphere. For example, filming while its darker and
cloudier creates a more thrilling atmosphere especially
when the right sense of music is adjusted.
• This way the audience has a closer connection with the
character as they get a feeling of sympathy towards the
characters based on the direct address used as shown in
the part when Leticia is lost and can’t find Gelsomina.
5. 4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation stages?
• For researching and planning the costumes I have used the
app Polyvore which allowed me showed me a variety pf
clothing that will suite the characters personality.
• So for Gelsomina we have choosen a dark gothic look but
for Leticia we decided on a complete opposite with was a
bit more girly.
• Another technology I have used is Facebook to
communicate and gain more audience feedback which gave
me information about what individuals preferred.
• Instagram was another technology I have used as it’s an
app to share pictures and so wanted to gain feedback and
opinions for my poster and magazine.
