The Indian military consists of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force. It also utilizes several paramilitary forces. The Indian Army is the second largest standing army in the world with over 2 million active and reserve personnel. The Indian Navy is the fifth largest navy globally operating over 100 vessels. The Indian Air Force is the fourth largest air force with over 1,500 aircraft. Key paramilitary forces include the Assam Rifles, Special Frontier Force, Indian Coast Guard, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and others that assist the military in securing India's borders and maintaining internal security.

2016 after retirement of General Dalbir

 PARA SPECIAL FORCES is the special operations unit
of the indian army.

 In India, 15th January is celebrated as Army Day.Army
Day marks a day to salute the valiant soldiers who
sacrificed their lives to protect the country and its
citizens.It is celebrated at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India
Gate and at all army HQs annually.

navy.It presently operates over 110 vessels,including
one aircraft carrier.Earlier it was known as Royal
Indian Navy but after 1934 it was known as Indian
Navy.
Chief of Naval Staff:-
The currrent chief of the Naval Staff is
Admiral Sunil Lamba,who took office
on 31 may 2016,replaced Admiral RK
Dhowan.

 Total strength of the navy stood at 67,228, including 1
aircraft carrier,11 destroyers, 14 frigates, 22 corvetts,16
submarines & other vessels.
 MARCOS (marine commandos).It is special operations
unit of the Indian Navy.

 Indian Navy is operated with three headquarter. These
Head quarters are:-

role in the bombing of karachi harbour in the 1971

Navy Day ever since.

 It was officially established on 8 October 1932 as an
auxiliary air force of the British empire and the prefix
Royal was added in 1945 in recognition of its services
during World War 2.
 After india became independent from the united
kingdom in 1947,the Royal Indian Air Force served the
dominion of India,with the prefix being dropped when
India became a republic in 1950.

 It is the World’s 4th largest Airforce.

 It consist of:-currently 46 batallions

32. Special Frontier Force:-
 Paramilitary special force of India created on 14 November
1962.
 The SFF came to be known as Establishment 22 due to
Major General(retd) Sujan Singh Uban of Indian Army.
 Headed by the inspector general under Director General of
Security.

 First proposed by the Indian Navy in the 1960.The
Indian Coast Guard was formally established on 18
August 1978 by the coast guard act,1978.It works in
close cooperation with the Indian Navy.It operates
under the Ministry of Defence.
 Indian coast Guard had 42 Coast Guard stations.
 There are 5 regional headquarters of Coast Guard.
 It consist of 15,714 active personnel,171 vessels,60
aircraft

35. Central Armed Police Forces:-
 The Central Armed Police Forces refers to uniform
nomenclature of five security forces in India under the
authority of Ministry of Home Affairs.
 They are the:-
 Border Security Force(BSF)
 Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF)
 Central Industrial Security Force(CISF)
 Indo-Tibetan Border Police(ITBP)
 Sashastra Seema Bal(SSB)

36. Central Reserve Police Force:-
 The CRPF is the largest of the CAPF units with 313,678
personnel in239 batalions.
 It includes:-
 The Rapid Action Force(RAF),a 10 battalion anti-riot
force trained to respond to sectarian violence.
The Commando Battalion for Resolute
Action(COBRA),a 10 battailion strong anti-Naxalite
Force.

37. Border Security Force:-
 The primary role of the Border Security Force is to guard
border of the India with Pakistan and Bangladesh ,it is
deployed both on the IB and the LOC.
 It has 257,363 personnel in 186 battalions with 100+ boats &
22 aircraft
Indo-Tibetan Border Police:-
 The Indo-Tibetan Border Police is deployed for guarding
duties on the border with China from karakoram pass in
ladakh to Diphu la in Arunachal Pradesh covering a total
distance of 3488km.
 It has 89,432 personnel in 56 fighting,2 DM and 4
specialized battalions.

38. Central Industrial Security Force:-
 One of the largest industrial security forces in the
world, the Central Industrial Security Force provides
security to various public sector understanding and
other critical infrastructure installations across the
country.
 It has a total strength of about 144,418 personnel in 132
battalions.
Sashastra Seema Bal(SSB):-
 The objective of the SSB is to guard the Indo-Bhutan
Borders.
 It has 76,337 personnel and 67 battalions,as well as some
reserved battalions.
