1. Applications are invited from unmarried male Candidates who have passed 10+2 examination with
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (hereinafter referred to as PCM) subjects and fulfill the eligibility
conditions prescribed in the subsequent paragraphs, for the grant of Permanent Commission in the Army.
2. Eligibility.
(a) Nationality. A candidate must be unmarried male and must either be : (i) A citizen of India, or (ii)
A subject of Bhutan, or (iii) A subject of Nepal, or (iv) A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before
the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) A person of Indian origin
who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the
United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of
permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above
shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by Govt of India. Certificate of
eligibility will however not be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal. A
candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be shortlisted provisionally subject to
the necessary certificate being given to him by the Govt before declaration of result by SSB/joining
training.
Note 1. Candidates must undertake not to marry until they complete their full training. A candidate, who
marries subsequent to the date of his application, though successful, will not be selected for training. A
candidate who marries during training shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure
incurred on him by the government.
(b) Age Limit. A candidate must not be below 16½ years and above 19½ years on the first day of the
month in which the course is due to commence i.e. the candidate should not be born before 01 Jul
2000 and not after 01 Jul 2003 (both days inclusive).
Note 1. Candidate should note that only the date of birth as recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary
School Examination or an equivalent certificate will be accepted. No other document relating to age will
be accepted.
Note 2. Candidates should also note that once a date of birth has been claimed by them and entered in
the records, no change will be allowed subsequently on any ground whatsoever.
(c) Educational Qualification. Only those candidates who have passed 10+2 Examination or its
equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 70% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from
recognized education boards are eligible to apply for this entry. Eligibility condition for calculating PCM
percentage of various state /central boards will be based on marks obtained in Class XII only.
(d) Medical Examination.
GUIDELINES FOR PHYSICAL STANDARDS
NOTE : CANDIDATES MUST BE PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY FIT ACCORDING TO THE PRESCRIBED
PHYSICAL STANDARDS. MEDICAL FITNESS CRITERIA GIVEN BELOW ARE AS PER EXISTING
GUIDELINES AS ON DATE OF PUBLICATION AND THESE GUIDELINES ARE SUBJECT TO REVISION.
A NUMBER OF QUALIFIED CANDIDATES ARE REJECTED SUBSEQUENTLY ON MEDICAL GROUNDS.
CANDIDATES ARE THEREFORE ADVISED IN THEIR OWN INTEREST TO GET THEMSELVES
MEDICALLLY EXAMINED BEFORE SUBMITTING THEIR APPLICATIONS TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT
AT THE FINAL STAGE.
Candidates are also advised to rectify minor defects/ailments in order to speed up finalization of medical
examination conducted at the Military Hospital after being recommended at the SSB.
Few of such commonly found defects/ailments are listed below:

NOTE: Permanent body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of forearm i.e. from inside of elbow to the
wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand/Permanent body tattoos on any other part of
the body are not acceptable and candidates will be barred from further selection. Tribes with tattoo marks on
the face or body as per their existing custom and traditions will be permitted on a case to case basis. Comdt
Selection Centre will be competent auth for clearing such cases.
Civilian candidates appearing for all types of commission in the Armed Forces will be entitled to out-
patients treatment from service sources at public expense for injuries sustained or diseases contracted during
the course of their examination by the Selection Board. They will be entitled to in-Patient treatment at public
expense in the Officer’s ward of a hospital provided-
(a) The injury is sustained during the tests or,
(b) The disease is contracted during the course of the examination by selection board and there
is no suitable accommodation in local civil hospital or it is impracticable to remove the patient to the
civil hospital;or,
(c) The medical board requires the candidate’s admission for observation.
NOTE: They are not entitled to special nursing.
Medical Examination Board for selection of officers and pre-commissioning training academies are
convened at designated Armed Forces Medical Services Hospitals near Service Selection Boards (SSBs).
These Medical Boards are termed as ‘Special Medical Board’ (SMB). Candidates who clear SSB interview are
referred to Armed Forces Medical Services Hospital with identification documents. Staff Surgeon of Hospital
will identify the candidate, guide the candidate to fill the relevant portions of the AFMSF-2, organize
investigations and examination by Medical, Surgical, Eye, ENT and Dental specialists. After examination by
Specialists, the candidate is brought before Medical Board. Medical Board once satisfied with findings of
Specialists will declare fitness of candidate. If any candidate is declared ‘Unfit’ by SMB, such candidates can
request for ‘Appeal Medical Board’ (AMB). Detailed procedure for AMB will be provided by President SMB.
Candidates who are unfit may apply for AMB to be completed within 42 days of SMB. Candidates declared
unfit by AMB will be intimated by the President AMB about procedure of challenging the findings of AMB.
Review Medical Board (RMB) will be granted at the discretion of DGAFMS based on the merit of the case and
that RMB is not a matter of right. In case a review by the Review Medical Board is to be requested, it is
required for the candidate to submit a personal application addressed to the DGAFMS, to be handed over to
the President AMB within 24 hours (i.e latest by the next calendar day). The office of the DGAFMS will inform
the date and place (Delhi and Pune only) where the candidate will appear for a RMB, if sanctioned by
DGAFMS on merit of the case.
(a) The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free from any
disease/disability which is likely to interfere with the efficient performance of Military duties.
(b) There should be no evidence of weak constitution, bodily defects or under weight. The
Candidate should not be overweight or obese.
(c) The minimum acceptable height is 157 cms. For Gorkhas and individuals belonging to hills of
North-Eastern regions of India, Garhwal and Kumaon, the minimum acceptable heights will be 5 cms,
Less. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep the minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2
cms. Height and standards are given below:

NOTE 1 : Height relaxable upto 2.5 cm may be allowed where the Medical Board certifies that the candidate
is likely to grow and come up to the required standard on completion of his training.
“Individual’s weight is considered normal if it is within 10% departure from average weight
given in the table I”. However, in individuals with heavy bones and broad build as well as
individuals with thin build but otherwise healthy this may be relaxed to some extent on merit.
(d) Chest should be well developed. Fully expanded chest should not be less than 81 cms. The
minimum range of expansion after full inspiration should be 5 cms. The measurement will be taken
with a tape so adjusted that its lower edge should touch the nipple in front and the upper part of the
tape should touch the lower angle of the shoulder blades behind. X-Ray of the chest is compulsory
and will be taken to rule out any disease of the chest.
(e) There should be no maldevelopment or impairment of function of the bones or joint.
(f) Mild Kyphosis or Lordosis where deformity is barley noticeable and there is no pain or
restriction of movement will not preclude acceptance.
(g) In case of noticeable Scoliosis or suspicion of any other abnormality or spinal deformity, more
than mild, appropriate X-rays of the spine are to be taken and the Examinee referred for specialist’s
advice.
(h) Routine X-ray Spine is not carried out for Army candidates. However, if the same is done for
any other purpose, the candidates with the following conditions will be disqualified for entry to Armed
Forces:
(i) Granulomatius disease of spine.
(ii) Arthritis/spondylosis- Rheumatorid arthritis & allied disorders and ankylosing
spondylitis.
(iii) Scoliosis more than 10 degree as measured by Cobb’s Method.
(iv) More than mild Kyphosis/Lordosis
(v) Spondylolisthesis/Spondylosis/Spondylolysis
(vi) Herniated nucleus pulposes.
(vii) Compression fracture of Vertebra.
(viii) Sacaralisation Disease.

(ix) Cervical ribs with demonstrable neurological or Circulatory deficit.
(x) Presence of Schmorl’s node at more than one level.
(xi) Atlanto-occipital and atlanto-axial anomalies.
(xii) Incomplete Sacaralisation Unilateral or Bilateral.
(xiii) Spina Bifida other SV 1 and LV 5 if completely Sacralised.
(xiv) Any other abnormality, if so considered by specialist.
(j) A candidate should have no past history of mental breakdown or fits.
(k) The hearing should be normal. A candidate should be able to hear a forced whisper with each
ear at a distance of 610 cms in a quiet room. There should be no evidence of present or past disease
of the ear, nose and throat.
(l) There should be no signs of functional or organic disease of the heart and blood vessels.
Blood pressure should be normal.
(m) There should be no enlargement of liver or spleen. Any evidence of disease of internal organs
of the abdomen will be a cause for rejection.
(n) Un-operated hernias will make a candidate unfit. In case of Hernia which has been operated,
a minimum of one year must have passed prior to final medical examination before commencement of
the course.
(o) There should be no hydrocele, varicocele or piles.
(p) Urine examination will be done and any abnormality if detected will be a cause for rejection.
(q) Any disease of skin which is likely to cause disability or disfigurement will also be a cause for
rejection.
(r) Distance Vision (Corrected): Better Eye 6/6; Worse Eye 6/9. Myopia should not be more than-
2.5D including astigmatism and manifest hypermetropia not more than +3.5D including Astigmatism.
Internal examination of the eye will be done by means of ophthalmoscope to rule out any disease of
the eye. A candidate must have good binocular vision. The colour vision standard will be CP-III
(Defective Safe). Candidates should be able to recognize white, signal red and signal green colours
correctly as shown by Martin’s Lantern at a distance of 1.5 metre or read the requisite plate of
Inshihara Book/Tokyo Medical College Book. Candidates who have undergone or have evidence for
having undergone Radial Keratotomy, to improve the visual acuity will be permanently rejected for all
the services. Candidates who have undergone Laser surgery for correction of refractive error are also
not acceptable to defence services.
(s) “Candidates who have undergone PRK (Photo Refractive Keratotomy/Lasik (Laser in Situ
Keratomileusis) will be unfit for commissioning in the all branches”. Candidates having undergone
cataract surgery with or without IOL implants will also be declared unfit. Binocular vision must possess
good binocular vision (fusion and stereopsis with good amplitude and depth).
(t) USG abdomen examination will be carried out and any congential structural anomaly or
disease of the abdominal organs will be a cause for rejection in Armed Forces
(u) The candidates should have sufficient number of natural and sound teeth. A minimum of 14
dental points will be acceptable. When 32 teeth are present, the total dental points are 22. A
candidate should not be suffering form severe pyorrhea.
(v) Routine ECG for candidates must be within normal limits.

(w) The following investigations are carried out mandatorily during Special Medical Board.
However, Medical Officer/ Medical Board examining a candidate may ask for any other investigation
as required as indicated:-
(i) Complete Haemogram.
(ii) Urine RE/ME.
(iii) X Ray chest PA view.
(iv) USG abdomen & pelvis.
(x) Physical conditioning: Prospective candidates are advised to keep themselves in good
physical condition, by following the under mentioned routine:-
(i) Running 2.4km in 15 minutes.
(ii) Skipping.
(iii) Pushups and sit ups (minimum 20 each).
(iv) Chin ups (minimum 08).
(v) Rope climbing 3.4 metres.
(e) Candidate should not have been debarred from appearing in any examination by UPSC.
Candidate should not have been arrested/convicted by a criminal court or involved in any court case.
3. Vacancies. 90 (Vacancies are provisional and can be changed depending on the training capacity at
the Training Academy for this course. The vacancies are subject to increase/decrease keeping the
organizational requirement at the point of time.)
4. Type of Commission. On successful completion of 4 years of the course, cadets will be granted
Permanent Commission in the Army in the rank of Lt.
5. Seniority. They will be granted seniority on overall order of merit of the three technical institutes
combined i.e. CME,MCTE,MCEME and in case the date of commissioning coincides with that of IMA,
Dehradun, they will be placed en-block junior to IMA (NDA/ ACC / DE Course ) but above TGC / UES course.
Training
6. Total training will be 5 years. Details are as under:
(a) Basic Military Training. 1 year (Officer Training Academy Gaya).
(b) Technical Training. (i) Phase-I (Pre Commission Training): 3 Years (CME Pune or MCTE Mhow or
MCEME Secunderabad), (ii) Phase-II (Post Commission Training): 1 year at CME Pune or MCTE Mhow
or MCEME Secunderabad.
(c) Award of Degree. The candidates will be awarded Engineering degree after successful completion
of the final examination. No ante date will be admissible to candidates on account of this Engineering
degree. During the last two semesters, the officers will be permitted only one relegation on academic
grounds. This relegation will be within the maximum two relegations permitted on academic grounds in
the entire Engineering degree (8 semesters) in accordance with JNU Ordinance. Any further relegation of
the officer on academic grounds will lead to termination of his commission.
Note. Candidates must understand that in case of final selection, their appointment will be provisional
subject to satisfactory verification of antecedents by concerned civil/police/education authorities, as applicable.
Cost of Training. (Borne by State; will be recovered from candidates withdrawing for personal reasons).
7. Rs 8785/- per week (or as notified from time to time) for the period of candidate’s stay at the Officers
Training Academy, Gaya/Cadet Training Wing.

(c) Military Service Pay (MSP). MSP to the officers from the rank of Lt to Brig Rs. 15,500/-
p.m fixed.
(d) Fixed Stipend for Cadet Trainng. The gentlemen cadets will be given a stipend of
Rs. 56,100/-p.m.* as is admissible to NDA cadets on completion of 3 years training. On completion of
4 Years training, they will be commissioned in the rank of Lt and entitled to pay as admissible to the
rank.
* On successful commissioning, the pay in the pay matrix of the officer commissioned shall be fixed in
first Cell of Level 10 and the period of training shall not be treated as commissioned service and
arrears on account of admissible allowances, as applicable, for the training period shall be paid to
cadets.
(e) Qualification Grant.
(i) Qualification Grant. Abolished as a separate allowance and eligible employees to
be governed by newly proposed Higher Qualification Incentive (HQI). Order for HQI is yet to
be issued by MoD.
(ii) Flying Allowance. The Army Aviators (Pilots) serving in the Army Aviation
Corps are entitled to flying allowance as under :-

(f) Other Allowances.
(i) Dearness Allowance Admissible at the same rates and under the same condition as
are applicable to the civilian personnel from time to time.

(ii) The allowance shall not be admissible to those service personnel who have been
provided with the facility of Government transport.
(iii) Officers in Pay Level 14 and above, who are entitled to use official car, will have the
option to avail official car facility or to draw the TPTA at the rate of Rs. 15,750+DA thereon.
(iv) The allowance will not be admissible for the calendar month(s) wholly covered by leave.
(v) Physically disabled service personnel will continue to be paid at double rate, subject to a
minimum of Rs. 2,250+DA.
(n) Children Education Allowance. Rs. 2250/- per month per child for two eldest surviving
only. CEA is admissible from Nursery to 12
th
Classes.
(i) Reimbursement should be done just once a year, after completion of the financial
year (which for most schools coincides with the Academic year).
(ii) Certificate from the head of institution where the ward of government employee
studies should be sufficient for this purpose. The certificate should confirm that child studied in
the school during the previous academic year.
Note. In the case of allowances specific to Defence Forces, the rates of these allowances would be
enhanced by 25% automatically each time the Dearness Allowance payable on the revised pay band goes up
by 50% (GoI letter No A-27012/02/2017-Estt.(AL) dt 16 Aug 2017).

(o) Leave. Leave will be admissible in accordance with the rules in force from time to time.
9. On being commissioned, all officers will be guided by the terms and conditions as given out by the
Army Group Insurance Scheme and as amended from time to time.
(a) Army Group Insurance Fund Provides insurance cover of Rs.15 lakh on payment of one time
non-refundable premium of Rs. 8200/- by cadets from the date of joining for pre-commission training
i.e for 3 years. If a cadet is relegated an additional premium of Rs. 1444/- per relegated term will be
paid. For those who are invalidated out by IMB on account of disability and not entitled to any
pension will be provided Rs. 7.5 lakhs for 100 percent disability. This will be proportionately
reduced to Rs. 1.5 lakhs for 20 percent disability. However, for less than 20 percent disability, only
an Ex-Gratia Grant of Rs. 50,000/- for initial year of training and Rs.1 lakh during the last year of
training will be paid. Disability due to alcoholism, drug addiction and due to the diseases of pre-
enrolment origin will not qualify for disability benefit and Ex-Gratia Grant. In addition, a Cadet
withdrawn on disciplinary grounds, expelled as an undesirable or voluntarily leaving the Academy will
also not be eligible for disability benefits and Ex-Gratia. There is no saving component under the
scheme.
(b) The Gentlemen Cadets when in receipt of stipend are insured for Rs. 75 lakh wef 01 Oct 2016.
Those who are invalidated out by IMB on account of disability and not entitled to any pension
will be provided Rs. 25 lakhs for 100 percent disability. This will be proportionately reduced to
Rs. 5 lakhs for 20 percent disability. However, for less than 20 percent disability, only an Ex-Gratia
Grant of Rs. 50,000/- for initial year of training and Rs. 1 lakh during the last year of training will be
paid. Disability due to alcoholism, drug addiction and due to the diseases of pre-enrolment origin will
not qualify for disability benefit and Ex-Gratia Grant. In addition, Gentlemen cadets withdrawn on
disciplinary grounds, expelled as an undesirable or voluntarily leaving the Academy will also not be
eligible for disability benefits and Ex-Gratia. Subscription at the rate of Rs. 5000/- will have to be paid
in advance on monthly basis by Gentlemen Cadet to become member under the main AGI Scheme as
applicable to regular Army officers. The subscription for the relegated period would also be recovered
at the same rate.
10. How to Apply. Application will only be accepted online. To do so the candidate needs to click on the
‘online application’ button on website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in
(a) Candidates must enter their particulars in the online application. Terms and conditions linked to
the form must be read, prior to submitting the form.
(b) A candidate is permitted to make changes to data filled incorrectly in online application
till the closing of online applications. The candidate must ‘submit’ his application each time he
opens his application for editing. No changes to online application will be permitted thereafter
and no representation in this regard will be entertained.
(c) After successfully submitting the form the candidate will receive a confirmation in the form of a
dialog box of having submitted the application. Print out of the application with a Roll number will be
available to the candidate 30 mins after the closing of online applications. Candidates are required to
print two copies of the application with Roll Number generated by the system. One copy of the
print out application duly self attested by the candidate will be carried to the selection centre
for the SSB interview. Following documents will also be carried along with the Application Form:-
(i) Class 10

The second copy of the printout of online application is to be retained by the candidate
for his reference. There is no need to send any hard copy of application printout to Directorate
General of Recruiting.
(d) Two self attested photocopies of the certificates mentioned at ser (c) above will be submitted
at the time of SSB interview and originals will be returned after verification at the SSB itself.
(e) 20 copies of self attested PP size photograph will also be carried alongwith the Application
Form.
(f) Candidates must submit only one application. Receipt of multiple applications from the same
candidate will result in cancellation of candidature.

Note 1. Any change in your postal address after submission of application must be communicated by
post duly quoting your Roll No, name and course opted for.
Note 2. In case, the candidate is employed he will inform where and also give undertaking that he
has informed the employer in writing that he is applying for commission in the Army.
11. Important Instructions.
(a) The candidate needs to apply ‘online’ on Directorate General of Recruiting Website
www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. The application will be screened at Directorate General of Recruiting,
Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Army) and the candidate thereafter will be detailed for
SSB.
(b) For SSB interview, print out of online application must be accompanied by original documents
along with two sets of self attested photocopies i.e. 10th class certificate issued by the Board
concerned (CBSE/ State Boards/lCSE) in which date of birth is reflected for proof of date of birth
(Admit card/Mark sheet/Transfer/Leaving Certificate etc. are not acceptable for proof of date of birth)
and 10+2 certificate and mark sheet for proof of education. Revised mark sheets issued by a
Board/University after last date of submitting online application will not be accepted for this course.
(c) While filling up the application form, candidates are required to indicate exact PCM
percentage of Class 12th upto two decimals and are not to be rounding off. Any false entry of
PCM percentage, detected at any stage of selection process will be outrightly rejected.
(d) Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) reserves the right to short list
applications and to fix cut off percentage of PCM marks without assigning any reason. No
communication will be entertained on this account. All incomplete online applications will be rejected
outright. No intimation will be given to the candidate in writing or verbally.
(e) Shortlisted candidates will be detailed to undergo SSB interview from Jan 2019 onwards.
(f) No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained as a result of test conducted
at SSB.
(g) Candidate withdrawn from NDA, OTA, IMA, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy or any
service trg academy on disciplinary grounds is not eligible to apply.
(h) Final merit list will be displayed at the notice board of Directorate General of Recruiting, Rtg A
(Officers Selection), West Block-III, R.K Puram, New Delhi PIN-110066 as well as Directorate
General of Recruiting website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in before induction for pre-commissioning
training.
Note. Candidates are advised to read the notification carefully and then fill up online application form
to avoid mistakes and thereby rejection of application.
12. Selection Procedure. The selection procedure is as follows:-
(a) Shortlisting of Applications. Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) reserves the right to shortlist
applications based on cut off percentage applied as decided. After shortlisting of candidates, the
Centre allotment will be intimated to the candidate online. After allotment of Selection Centre,
candidates will have to log in to the website and select their SSB dates on a first come first serve
basis.
(b) Only shortlisted eligible candidates depending on the cutoff percentage will undergo SSB at
one of the Selection Centres i.e, Allahabad (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka) or Kapurthala
(Punjab) by Psychologist, Group Testing Officer and Interviewing Officer. Call Up letter for SSB
interview will be issued by respective Selection Centres on candidate’s registered e-mail ID and SMS
only. Allotment of Selection Centre is at the discretion of Directorate General of Recruiting, Integrated
Headquarters of MoD (Army) and NO request for changes are entertained in this regard.
(c) Candidates will be put through two stage selection procedure. Those who clear Stage I
will go to Stage II. Those who fail in Stage I will be returned on the same day. Duration of SSB
interview is five days and details of the same are available at the official website of Directorate
General of Recruiting www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. This will be followed by a medical examination for
the candidates who get recommended after Stage II.
(d) In the eventuality of being recommended by SSB, candidate should have no objection for
undergoing medical examination by board of Male/Female doctors.

(e) Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit, will be issued joining letter
for training in the order of merit, depending on the number of vacancies available.
(f) The finally selected candidates will execute all the Bonds/Certificates as prescribed for the
Cadets of NDA entry under AI 53/78.
(g) Candidate will not have any objection in the event of final selection, on allotment of any
Arm/Service in the interest of organisation.
Note 1. No claim or compensation will be made by the candidate if at any stage of selection the candidate’s
ineligibility is detected and candidature is cancelled as a result thereof.
Note 2. Candidate will be debarred from future attempts and cancellation from the present course if at any
stage of selection he is found to be indulging in any violation of local orders concerning discipline aspects.
13. Permanent Body Tattoos. For detailed Tattoo policy, visit www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.
14. Change of Interview Dates. Request for change of SSB Interview date/centre will not be entertained
to or replied.
15. Entitlement for Travelling Allowance. Candidates appearing for SSB interview for the first time for a
particular type of commission shall be entitled for AC III tier to and fro railway fare or bus fare including
reservation cum sleeper charges within Indian limits. Candidates who apply again for the same type of
commission will not be entitled to travelling allowance on any subsequent occasion.
16. Merit List. It must be noted that mere qualifying at the SSB Interview does not confirm final Selection.
Merit will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate at SSB Interview. Higher educational
qualifications, previous performances, NCC background etc. have no role to play for finalization of Merit List.
Joining letters to join pre-commission training at OTA, Gaya will only be issued subject to vacancies and
medical fitness.
Note 1. On joining the Army, some personal restrictions in service will be imposed in accordance with Article
33 of the Constitution of India as promulgated in the Army Act and Army Rules from time to time.
Note 2. Any ambiguity/false information/concealment of information detected in the certificate/documents will
result in cancellation of the candidature at any stage of selection and candidate will be debarred from this
course.

under the heading ‘What’s New’ on www.joinindianarmy.nic.in thoroughly before submission of queries
through the ‘Feedback/Query’ module.
Note 4. In order to avoid last hour rush and ensure timely response, the queries received atleast 3 days prior
to closing of online application will ONLY be entertained/replied.
ONLINE APPLICATION WILL OPEN ON 10 MAY 2019 AT 1200 HRS AND WILL BE CLOSED ON
08 JUN 2019 AT 1200 HRS.

Indian army tech entry

  • 1. 1. Applications are invited from unmarried male Candidates who have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (hereinafter referred to as PCM) subjects and fulfill the eligibility conditions prescribed in the subsequent paragraphs, for the grant of Permanent Commission in the Army. 2. Eligibility. (a) Nationality. A candidate must be unmarried male and must either be : (i) A citizen of India, or (ii) A subject of Bhutan, or (iii) A subject of Nepal, or (iv) A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by Govt of India. Certificate of eligibility will however not be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be shortlisted provisionally subject to the necessary certificate being given to him by the Govt before declaration of result by SSB/joining training. Note 1. Candidates must undertake not to marry until they complete their full training. A candidate, who marries subsequent to the date of his application, though successful, will not be selected for training. A candidate who marries during training shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the government. (b) Age Limit. A candidate must not be below 16½ years and above 19½ years on the first day of the month in which the course is due to commence i.e. the candidate should not be born before 01 Jul 2000 and not after 01 Jul 2003 (both days inclusive). Note 1. Candidate should note that only the date of birth as recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary School Examination or an equivalent certificate will be accepted. No other document relating to age will be accepted. Note 2. Candidates should also note that once a date of birth has been claimed by them and entered in the records, no change will be allowed subsequently on any ground whatsoever. (c) Educational Qualification. Only those candidates who have passed 10+2 Examination or its equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 70% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from recognized education boards are eligible to apply for this entry. Eligibility condition for calculating PCM percentage of various state /central boards will be based on marks obtained in Class XII only. (d) Medical Examination. GUIDELINES FOR PHYSICAL STANDARDS NOTE : CANDIDATES MUST BE PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY FIT ACCORDING TO THE PRESCRIBED PHYSICAL STANDARDS. MEDICAL FITNESS CRITERIA GIVEN BELOW ARE AS PER EXISTING GUIDELINES AS ON DATE OF PUBLICATION AND THESE GUIDELINES ARE SUBJECT TO REVISION. A NUMBER OF QUALIFIED CANDIDATES ARE REJECTED SUBSEQUENTLY ON MEDICAL GROUNDS. CANDIDATES ARE THEREFORE ADVISED IN THEIR OWN INTEREST TO GET THEMSELVES MEDICALLLY EXAMINED BEFORE SUBMITTING THEIR APPLICATIONS TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT AT THE FINAL STAGE. Candidates are also advised to rectify minor defects/ailments in order to speed up finalization of medical examination conducted at the Military Hospital after being recommended at the SSB. Few of such commonly found defects/ailments are listed below: (a) Wax (Ears) (b) Deviated Nasal Septum INDIAN ARMY (PERMANENT COMMISSION) 10+2 TECHNICAL ENTRY SCHEME COURSE - 42 COMMENCING FROM JAN 2020
  • 2. 2 (c) Hydrocele/Phimosis (d) Overweight/Underweight (e) Under Sized Chest (f) Piles (g) Gynaecomastia (h) Tonsillitis (i) Varicocele NOTE: Permanent body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of forearm i.e. from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand/Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body are not acceptable and candidates will be barred from further selection. Tribes with tattoo marks on the face or body as per their existing custom and traditions will be permitted on a case to case basis. Comdt Selection Centre will be competent auth for clearing such cases. Civilian candidates appearing for all types of commission in the Armed Forces will be entitled to out- patients treatment from service sources at public expense for injuries sustained or diseases contracted during the course of their examination by the Selection Board. They will be entitled to in-Patient treatment at public expense in the Officer’s ward of a hospital provided- (a) The injury is sustained during the tests or, (b) The disease is contracted during the course of the examination by selection board and there is no suitable accommodation in local civil hospital or it is impracticable to remove the patient to the civil hospital;or, (c) The medical board requires the candidate’s admission for observation. NOTE: They are not entitled to special nursing. Medical Examination Board for selection of officers and pre-commissioning training academies are convened at designated Armed Forces Medical Services Hospitals near Service Selection Boards (SSBs). These Medical Boards are termed as ‘Special Medical Board’ (SMB). Candidates who clear SSB interview are referred to Armed Forces Medical Services Hospital with identification documents. Staff Surgeon of Hospital will identify the candidate, guide the candidate to fill the relevant portions of the AFMSF-2, organize investigations and examination by Medical, Surgical, Eye, ENT and Dental specialists. After examination by Specialists, the candidate is brought before Medical Board. Medical Board once satisfied with findings of Specialists will declare fitness of candidate. If any candidate is declared ‘Unfit’ by SMB, such candidates can request for ‘Appeal Medical Board’ (AMB). Detailed procedure for AMB will be provided by President SMB. Candidates who are unfit may apply for AMB to be completed within 42 days of SMB. Candidates declared unfit by AMB will be intimated by the President AMB about procedure of challenging the findings of AMB. Review Medical Board (RMB) will be granted at the discretion of DGAFMS based on the merit of the case and that RMB is not a matter of right. In case a review by the Review Medical Board is to be requested, it is required for the candidate to submit a personal application addressed to the DGAFMS, to be handed over to the President AMB within 24 hours (i.e latest by the next calendar day). The office of the DGAFMS will inform the date and place (Delhi and Pune only) where the candidate will appear for a RMB, if sanctioned by DGAFMS on merit of the case. (a) The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free from any disease/disability which is likely to interfere with the efficient performance of Military duties. (b) There should be no evidence of weak constitution, bodily defects or under weight. The Candidate should not be overweight or obese. (c) The minimum acceptable height is 157 cms. For Gorkhas and individuals belonging to hills of North-Eastern regions of India, Garhwal and Kumaon, the minimum acceptable heights will be 5 cms, Less. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep the minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2 cms. Height and standards are given below:

However, in individuals with heavy bones and broad build as well as individuals with thin build but otherwise healthy this may be relaxed to some extent on merit. (d) Chest should be well developed. Fully expanded chest should not be less than 81 cms. The minimum range of expansion after full inspiration should be 5 cms. The measurement will be taken with a tape so adjusted that its lower edge should touch the nipple in front and the upper part of the tape should touch the lower angle of the shoulder blades behind. X-Ray of the chest is compulsory and will be taken to rule out any disease of the chest. (e) There should be no maldevelopment or impairment of function of the bones or joint. (f) Mild Kyphosis or Lordosis where deformity is barley noticeable and there is no pain or restriction of movement will not preclude acceptance. (g) In case of noticeable Scoliosis or suspicion of any other abnormality or spinal deformity, more than mild, appropriate X-rays of the spine are to be taken and the Examinee referred for specialist’s advice. (h) Routine X-ray Spine is not carried out for Army candidates. However, if the same is done for any other purpose, the candidates with the following conditions will be disqualified for entry to Armed Forces: (i) Granulomatius disease of spine. (ii) Arthritis/spondylosis- Rheumatorid arthritis & allied disorders and ankylosing spondylitis. (iii) Scoliosis more than 10 degree as measured by Cobb’s Method. (iv) More than mild Kyphosis/Lordosis (v) Spondylolisthesis/Spondylosis/Spondylolysis (vi) Herniated nucleus pulposes. (vii) Compression fracture of Vertebra. (viii) Sacaralisation Disease.
  • 4. 4 (ix) Cervical ribs with demonstrable neurological or Circulatory deficit. (x) Presence of Schmorl’s node at more than one level. (xi) Atlanto-occipital and atlanto-axial anomalies. (xii) Incomplete Sacaralisation Unilateral or Bilateral. (xiii) Spina Bifida other SV 1 and LV 5 if completely Sacralised. (xiv) Any other abnormality, if so considered by specialist. (j) A candidate should have no past history of mental breakdown or fits. (k) The hearing should be normal. A candidate should be able to hear a forced whisper with each ear at a distance of 610 cms in a quiet room. There should be no evidence of present or past disease of the ear, nose and throat. (l) There should be no signs of functional or organic disease of the heart and blood vessels. Blood pressure should be normal. (m) There should be no enlargement of liver or spleen. Any evidence of disease of internal organs of the abdomen will be a cause for rejection. (n) Un-operated hernias will make a candidate unfit. In case of Hernia which has been operated, a minimum of one year must have passed prior to final medical examination before commencement of the course. (o) There should be no hydrocele, varicocele or piles. (p) Urine examination will be done and any abnormality if detected will be a cause for rejection. (q) Any disease of skin which is likely to cause disability or disfigurement will also be a cause for rejection. (r) Distance Vision (Corrected): Better Eye 6/6; Worse Eye 6/9. Myopia should not be more than- 2.5D including astigmatism and manifest hypermetropia not more than +3.5D including Astigmatism. Internal examination of the eye will be done by means of ophthalmoscope to rule out any disease of the eye. A candidate must have good binocular vision. The colour vision standard will be CP-III (Defective Safe). Candidates should be able to recognize white, signal red and signal green colours correctly as shown by Martin’s Lantern at a distance of 1.5 metre or read the requisite plate of Inshihara Book/Tokyo Medical College Book. Candidates who have undergone or have evidence for having undergone Radial Keratotomy, to improve the visual acuity will be permanently rejected for all the services. Candidates who have undergone Laser surgery for correction of refractive error are also not acceptable to defence services. (s) “Candidates who have undergone PRK (Photo Refractive Keratotomy/Lasik (Laser in Situ Keratomileusis) will be unfit for commissioning in the all branches”. Candidates having undergone cataract surgery with or without IOL implants will also be declared unfit. Binocular vision must possess good binocular vision (fusion and stereopsis with good amplitude and depth). (t) USG abdomen examination will be carried out and any congential structural anomaly or disease of the abdominal organs will be a cause for rejection in Armed Forces (u) The candidates should have sufficient number of natural and sound teeth. A minimum of 14 dental points will be acceptable. When 32 teeth are present, the total dental points are 22. A candidate should not be suffering form severe pyorrhea. (v) Routine ECG for candidates must be within normal limits.
  • 5. 5 (w) The following investigations are carried out mandatorily during Special Medical Board. However, Medical Officer/ Medical Board examining a candidate may ask for any other investigation as required as indicated:- (i) Complete Haemogram. (ii) Urine RE/ME. (iii) X Ray chest PA view. (iv) USG abdomen & pelvis. (x) Physical conditioning: Prospective candidates are advised to keep themselves in good physical condition, by following the under mentioned routine:- (i) Running 2.4km in 15 minutes. (ii) Skipping. (iii) Pushups and sit ups (minimum 20 each). (iv) Chin ups (minimum 08). (v) Rope climbing 3.4 metres. (e) Candidate should not have been debarred from appearing in any examination by UPSC. Candidate should not have been arrested/convicted by a criminal court or involved in any court case. 3. Vacancies. 90 (Vacancies are provisional and can be changed depending on the training capacity at the Training Academy for this course. The vacancies are subject to increase/decrease keeping the organizational requirement at the point of time.) 4. Type of Commission. On successful completion of 4 years of the course, cadets will be granted Permanent Commission in the Army in the rank of Lt. 5. Seniority. They will be granted seniority on overall order of merit of the three technical institutes combined i.e. CME,MCTE,MCEME and in case the date of commissioning coincides with that of IMA, Dehradun, they will be placed en-block junior to IMA (NDA/ ACC / DE Course ) but above TGC / UES course. Training 6. Total training will be 5 years. Details are as under: (a) Basic Military Training. 1 year (Officer Training Academy Gaya). (b) Technical Training. (i) Phase-I (Pre Commission Training): 3 Years (CME Pune or MCTE Mhow or MCEME Secunderabad), (ii) Phase-II (Post Commission Training): 1 year at CME Pune or MCTE Mhow or MCEME Secunderabad. (c) Award of Degree. The candidates will be awarded Engineering degree after successful completion of the final examination. No ante date will be admissible to candidates on account of this Engineering degree. During the last two semesters, the officers will be permitted only one relegation on academic grounds. This relegation will be within the maximum two relegations permitted on academic grounds in the entire Engineering degree (8 semesters) in accordance with JNU Ordinance. Any further relegation of the officer on academic grounds will lead to termination of his commission. Note. Candidates must understand that in case of final selection, their appointment will be provisional subject to satisfactory verification of antecedents by concerned civil/police/education authorities, as applicable. Cost of Training. (Borne by State; will be recovered from candidates withdrawing for personal reasons). 7. Rs 8785/- per week (or as notified from time to time) for the period of candidate’s stay at the Officers Training Academy, Gaya/Cadet Training Wing.

On completion of 4 Years training, they will be commissioned in the rank of Lt and entitled to pay as admissible to the rank. * On successful commissioning, the pay in the pay matrix of the officer commissioned shall be fixed in first Cell of Level 10 and the period of training shall not be treated as commissioned service and arrears on account of admissible allowances, as applicable, for the training period shall be paid to cadets. (e) Qualification Grant. (i) Qualification Grant. Abolished as a separate allowance and eligible employees to be governed by newly proposed Higher Qualification Incentive (HQI). Order for HQI is yet to be issued by MoD. (ii) Flying Allowance. The Army Aviators (Pilots) serving in the Army Aviation Corps are entitled to flying allowance as under :- Lieutenant and above Level 10 and above Rs. 25,000/- p.m fixed (R1H1 of Risk and Hardship Matrix).

(ii) The allowance shall not be admissible to those service personnel who have been provided with the facility of Government transport. (iii) Officers in Pay Level 14 and above, who are entitled to use official car, will have the option to avail official car facility or to draw the TPTA at the rate of Rs. 15,750+DA thereon. (iv) The allowance will not be admissible for the calendar month(s) wholly covered by leave. (v) Physically disabled service personnel will continue to be paid at double rate, subject to a minimum of Rs. 2,250+DA. (n) Children Education Allowance. Rs. 2250/- per month per child for two eldest surviving only. CEA is admissible from Nursery to 12 th Classes. (i) Reimbursement should be done just once a year, after completion of the financial year (which for most schools coincides with the Academic year). (ii) Certificate from the head of institution where the ward of government employee studies should be sufficient for this purpose. The certificate should confirm that child studied in the school during the previous academic year. Note. In the case of allowances specific to Defence Forces, the rates of these allowances would be enhanced by 25% automatically each time the Dearness Allowance payable on the revised pay band goes up by 50% (GoI letter No A-27012/02/2017-Estt.(AL) dt 16 Aug 2017).
  • 8. 8 (o) Leave. Leave will be admissible in accordance with the rules in force from time to time. 9. On being commissioned, all officers will be guided by the terms and conditions as given out by the Army Group Insurance Scheme and as amended from time to time. (a) Army Group Insurance Fund Provides insurance cover of Rs.15 lakh on payment of one time non-refundable premium of Rs. 8200/- by cadets from the date of joining for pre-commission training i.e for 3 years. If a cadet is relegated an additional premium of Rs. 1444/- per relegated term will be paid. For those who are invalidated out by IMB on account of disability and not entitled to any pension will be provided Rs. 7.5 lakhs for 100 percent disability. This will be proportionately reduced to Rs. 1.5 lakhs for 20 percent disability. However, for less than 20 percent disability, only an Ex-Gratia Grant of Rs. 50,000/- for initial year of training and Rs.1 lakh during the last year of training will be paid. Disability due to alcoholism, drug addiction and due to the diseases of pre- enrolment origin will not qualify for disability benefit and Ex-Gratia Grant. In addition, a Cadet withdrawn on disciplinary grounds, expelled as an undesirable or voluntarily leaving the Academy will also not be eligible for disability benefits and Ex-Gratia. There is no saving component under the scheme. (b) The Gentlemen Cadets when in receipt of stipend are insured for Rs. 75 lakh wef 01 Oct 2016. Those who are invalidated out by IMB on account of disability and not entitled to any pension will be provided Rs. 25 lakhs for 100 percent disability. This will be proportionately reduced to Rs. 5 lakhs for 20 percent disability. However, for less than 20 percent disability, only an Ex-Gratia Grant of Rs. 50,000/- for initial year of training and Rs. 1 lakh during the last year of training will be paid. Disability due to alcoholism, drug addiction and due to the diseases of pre-enrolment origin will not qualify for disability benefit and Ex-Gratia Grant. In addition, Gentlemen cadets withdrawn on disciplinary grounds, expelled as an undesirable or voluntarily leaving the Academy will also not be eligible for disability benefits and Ex-Gratia. Subscription at the rate of Rs. 5000/- will have to be paid in advance on monthly basis by Gentlemen Cadet to become member under the main AGI Scheme as applicable to regular Army officers. The subscription for the relegated period would also be recovered at the same rate. 10. How to Apply. Application will only be accepted online. To do so the candidate needs to click on the ‘online application’ button on website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in (a) Candidates must enter their particulars in the online application. Terms and conditions linked to the form must be read, prior to submitting the form. (b) A candidate is permitted to make changes to data filled incorrectly in online application till the closing of online applications. The candidate must ‘submit’ his application each time he opens his application for editing. No changes to online application will be permitted thereafter and no representation in this regard will be entertained. (c) After successfully submitting the form the candidate will receive a confirmation in the form of a dialog box of having submitted the application. Print out of the application with a Roll number will be available to the candidate 30 mins after the closing of online applications. Candidates are required to print two copies of the application with Roll Number generated by the system. One copy of the print out application duly self attested by the candidate will be carried to the selection centre for the SSB interview. Following documents will also be carried along with the Application Form:- (i) Class 10 th certificate / mark sheet in original showing DOB. (ii) Class 12 th certificate / mark sheet in original. (iii) ID proof in original. The second copy of the printout of online application is to be retained by the candidate for his reference. There is no need to send any hard copy of application printout to Directorate General of Recruiting. (d) Two self attested photocopies of the certificates mentioned at ser (c) above will be submitted at the time of SSB interview and originals will be returned after verification at the SSB itself. (e) 20 copies of self attested PP size photograph will also be carried alongwith the Application Form. (f) Candidates must submit only one application. Receipt of multiple applications from the same candidate will result in cancellation of candidature.
  • 9. 9 Note 1. Any change in your postal address after submission of application must be communicated by post duly quoting your Roll No, name and course opted for. Note 2. In case, the candidate is employed he will inform where and also give undertaking that he has informed the employer in writing that he is applying for commission in the Army. 11. Important Instructions. (a) The candidate needs to apply ‘online’ on Directorate General of Recruiting Website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. The application will be screened at Directorate General of Recruiting, Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Army) and the candidate thereafter will be detailed for SSB. (b) For SSB interview, print out of online application must be accompanied by original documents along with two sets of self attested photocopies i.e. 10th class certificate issued by the Board concerned (CBSE/ State Boards/lCSE) in which date of birth is reflected for proof of date of birth (Admit card/Mark sheet/Transfer/Leaving Certificate etc. are not acceptable for proof of date of birth) and 10+2 certificate and mark sheet for proof of education. Revised mark sheets issued by a Board/University after last date of submitting online application will not be accepted for this course. (c) While filling up the application form, candidates are required to indicate exact PCM percentage of Class 12th upto two decimals and are not to be rounding off. Any false entry of PCM percentage, detected at any stage of selection process will be outrightly rejected. (d) Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) reserves the right to short list applications and to fix cut off percentage of PCM marks without assigning any reason. No communication will be entertained on this account. All incomplete online applications will be rejected outright. No intimation will be given to the candidate in writing or verbally. (e) Shortlisted candidates will be detailed to undergo SSB interview from Jan 2019 onwards. (f) No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained as a result of test conducted at SSB. (g) Candidate withdrawn from NDA, OTA, IMA, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy or any service trg academy on disciplinary grounds is not eligible to apply. (h) Final merit list will be displayed at the notice board of Directorate General of Recruiting, Rtg A (Officers Selection), West Block-III, R.K Puram, New Delhi PIN-110066 as well as Directorate General of Recruiting website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in before induction for pre-commissioning training. Note. Candidates are advised to read the notification carefully and then fill up online application form to avoid mistakes and thereby rejection of application. 12. Selection Procedure. The selection procedure is as follows:- (a) Shortlisting of Applications. Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) reserves the right to shortlist applications based on cut off percentage applied as decided. After shortlisting of candidates, the Centre allotment will be intimated to the candidate online. After allotment of Selection Centre, candidates will have to log in to the website and select their SSB dates on a first come first serve basis. (b) Only shortlisted eligible candidates depending on the cutoff percentage will undergo SSB at one of the Selection Centres i.e, Allahabad (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka) or Kapurthala (Punjab) by Psychologist, Group Testing Officer and Interviewing Officer. Call Up letter for SSB interview will be issued by respective Selection Centres on candidate’s registered e-mail ID and SMS only. Allotment of Selection Centre is at the discretion of Directorate General of Recruiting, Integrated Headquarters of MoD (Army) and NO request for changes are entertained in this regard. (c) Candidates will be put through two stage selection procedure. Those who clear Stage I will go to Stage II. Those who fail in Stage I will be returned on the same day. Duration of SSB interview is five days and details of the same are available at the official website of Directorate General of Recruiting www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. This will be followed by a medical examination for the candidates who get recommended after Stage II. (d) In the eventuality of being recommended by SSB, candidate should have no objection for undergoing medical examination by board of Male/Female doctors.
  • 10. 10 (e) Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit, will be issued joining letter for training in the order of merit, depending on the number of vacancies available. (f) The finally selected candidates will execute all the Bonds/Certificates as prescribed for the Cadets of NDA entry under AI 53/78. (g) Candidate will not have any objection in the event of final selection, on allotment of any Arm/Service in the interest of organisation. Note 1. No claim or compensation will be made by the candidate if at any stage of selection the candidate’s ineligibility is detected and candidature is cancelled as a result thereof. Note 2. Candidate will be debarred from future attempts and cancellation from the present course if at any stage of selection he is found to be indulging in any violation of local orders concerning discipline aspects. 13. Request for change of SSB Interview date/centre will not be entertained to or replied. 15. Entitlement for Travelling Allowance. Candidates appearing for SSB interview for the first time for a particular type of commission shall be entitled for AC III tier to and fro railway fare or bus fare including reservation cum sleeper charges within Indian limits. Candidates who apply again for the same type of commission will not be entitled to travelling allowance on any subsequent occasion. 16. Merit List. It must be noted that mere qualifying at the SSB Interview does not confirm final Selection. Merit will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate at SSB Interview. Higher educational qualifications, previous performances, NCC background etc. have no role to play for finalization of Merit List. Joining letters to join pre-commission training at OTA, Gaya will only be issued subject to vacancies and medical fitness. Note 1. On joining the Army, some personal restrictions in service will be imposed in accordance with Article 33 of the Constitution of India as promulgated in the Army Act and Army Rules from time to time. Note 2. Any ambiguity/false information/concealment of information detected in the certificate/documents will result in cancellation of the candidature at any stage of selection and candidate will be debarred from this course.
