The Indian technology product M&A ecosystem has experienced a significant slowdown in venture capital and private equity funding since the peak years of 2014 and 2015, dropping to $2.4 billion in early 2016. M&A activity showed a surge in 2015, predominantly in smaller deals under $5 million, but a growth-stage crunch has emerged, particularly due to the decline in hedge fund involvement. For the Indian market to mature, an increase in mid-size to large deal activity and successful exits is necessary to enhance the overall health of the ecosystem.
