Amartya Sen utilized it for his research on human capabilities. Lord Meghnand

this is another addition to the long list of marvels created by him.
• The first statue which brought him instant fame was the one he made for the

• In the 18th century, a large number of X from north India would visit shrines
across Bengal. On the way, they collected religious tax from various zamindars and

demands increased and the local landlords and headmen were unable to pay both

• This entrepreneur was born in Ludhiana to a politician. He started his career
trading in cycles and yarns. He later became the largest importer of gensets
in India but in 1983, the government imposed a ban on it’s import and he
was out of business.
• It was then he recalled his visit to Taiwan where he had seen people using
phone sets with dial pads. He saw a market for it in India where people were
still using rotatory dials which was not user friendly. Thus X was born.

• X was born in1941 to Tamil parents in Nagercoil. He joined ISRO in 1966.
The head at the time saw the spark in X and promised him leave if he made
it to an Ivy League college. He went to Princeton to gain expertise in liquid
propulsion. He grew up in ranks in ISRO and was heading the Cryogenic
department when he was arrest for espionage charges. He was freed of these
last year and was awarded Padma Bhusan in 2019.
• As the head of cryogenic team he developed the ‘Vikas’ engine which is the
driving force of India’s PSLV and GSLV programs. According to him, the
name is made up of initials of the head in 1966.
