Indian IT outsourcing vendors are looking to increase revenues from outcome-based pricing models in 2013 due to increased volatility in their major markets of the US and Europe. Traditionally, vendors have relied on time-and-materials models where they are paid based on hours worked versus outcomes achieved. The renewed focus on outcomes is in response to a recent ad campaign by mid-tier player iGate advising clients to switch to outcomes-based models where the vendor only gets paid upon achieving pre-agreed outcomes. While Indian vendors have offered outcomes models since 2005, adoption has remained low compared to traditional models. Vendors are cautiously increasing outcomes given prerequisites like understanding clients' businesses and risks of non-payment if goals are not met.
