This document discusses local anesthesia, including how it works and its properties. It begins by defining local anesthesia as a loss of sensation caused by depressing nerve endings or inhibiting nerve conduction. It then discusses various methods of inducing local anesthesia and desirable properties like reversibility and lack of toxicity. The bulk of the document focuses on neurophysiology, explaining how nerves generate and transmit impulses through changes in electrolyte permeability and membrane potential. It discusses several theories for how local anesthetics specifically block nerve conduction, settling on the theory that they displace calcium from sodium channels, blocking sodium conductance and preventing action potentials. It notes local anesthesia is less effective in inflamed areas due to changes in pH. The document concludes by providing an example dose calculation

In a baby's first year, parents need to show them love while preparing for lack of sleep. Babies will develop routines around feeding, changing, and bedtime. As babies grow older, they begin sleeping more at night and developing faster than expected. Introducing solid foods is important for nutrition and health, as is keeping regular doctor visits. Babies typically crawl before taking their first steps around their first birthday, having learned to eat, walk, and get their teeth by that point.

The music video uses both conventions from real media products as well as some unconventional elements:
1) It draws on conventions like location (park) from Ed Sheeran's "The A Team" video and themes of loneliness from Cherish's "Unappreciated" but portrays a lesbian relationship, challenging typical portrayals.
2) Editing techniques like split screens are adapted from Destiny's Child's "Emotions" to develop new conventions while layered shots are from Drake's "Headlines."
3) Uncommon elements like establishment shots and high angles are used to represent vulnerability, developing new conventions for portraying themes in music videos.
The document analyzes the effectiveness of combining a main music video product with ancillary texts like CD covers and magazine ads. It examines examples from artists like Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Duffy to see how they establish clear product identities through consistent branding across related materials. The document concludes that the combination of its own music video and ancillary texts is effective because it maintains a clear product identity, shows relationships between the products, and stays consistent in colors, themes and fonts.

Lastly, it discusses the use of technologies like YouTube, Wikipedia, iPhone, Microsoft Word, and iMovie in researching, planning, filming and evaluating the project.
The document discusses conventions used in a student music video project based on Andrew Goodwin's seven conventions for music videos. It describes how the video incorporated conventions of genre, star identification, voyeurism, lyrics and visuals, and locations to tell the story of two lovers. It also discusses challenges to conventions like not including inter-textual references or following all conventions. Inspiration was drawn from music videos by Lana Del Rey, Florence and the Machine, and Ed Sheeran that also challenged conventions.
Evaluation question 1: In what way does your media project use, develop or ch...ajatuchband
The document discusses the conventions of music videos, print advertisements, and digipacks in the indie folk genre. It analyzes the student's media products in relation to these conventions. Specifically, it identifies that the student's music video follows Goodwin's theory of linking the lyrics and visuals. It also uses conventions like black and white footage, scenic shots, relaxed clothing, and narratives focused on love stories. For the CD cover and magazine ad, it applies additional conventions like using the same image and including information about reviews and formats. The digipack photographs challenge Barthes' theory by using mug shot-style images to represent the consequences of adultery described in the song.
The document summarizes how the media product challenges and develops conventions of real music videos based on Andrew Goodwin's theories. Key points:
1. The music video matches the editing pace to the music but uses longer shots for calmer parts to match the song's feelings.
2. A narrative format was chosen to represent the song's heartbreak theme over more upbeat styles.
3. Greyscale and slow motion shots signify memories, connecting the visuals to lyrics.
4. Continuity of style, colors, fonts and natural themes across products builds the artist's branding identity.
- The video uses conventions of the indie genre seen in other bands' music videos through techniques like camera angles, location shots, and casual clothing of the band.
- Feedback noted that some scenes were too dark and repetitive, but overall enjoyed the variety of shots and how the video linked to the song.
- New media like cameras, editing software, and blogs were used to plan, shoot, edit, and reflect on the project.
- The document discusses a music video created by the author for the indie band Modern Mafia to promote their song "Rain Dance".
- Research was conducted on conventions of indie music videos including camera angles, locations, lighting, costumes, and editing techniques.
- Feedback was received on the music video which noted some dark lighting that made the band's performance unclear at times and slightly repetitive scenes. Positive feedback praised the variety of shots and how elements linked to the song lyrics.
- Ancillary texts including a magazine ad and DVD case were also created using consistent branding and design informed by research. Feedback found these promotional materials to be effective.

The document discusses how effective the combination of a main product and ancillary texts can be through establishing a clear product identity. It analyzes examples from artists like Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Duffy to see how their music videos, CD covers, and magazine ads work cohesively through consistent branding elements like simplicity, similar imagery and colors. The document also evaluates how the combination of products created for this evaluation project establish relationships with the music video through narrative and performance imagery, color schemes, and clear connections to the song's message and themes.
This document summarizes how the media product, a music video, uses and develops conventions of real music videos. It provides 10 screenshots from the video with explanations of how they demonstrate techniques inspired by other music videos. These include using visuals to sync with lyrics, portraying the artist in an indie style, using nature themes, intertextual references to water, varied camera shots, lighting techniques like lens flares, mise-en-scene with natural elements, and props or themes inspired by other videos like sparklers and a theme of forbidden love.
1) The digipak uses conventions such as a close-up portrait of the artist, white backgrounds, edited photos, and the artist's name on the spine. However, it challenges conventions by putting the album title instead of name on the spine for visibility.
2) Photos were edited in Photoshop for skin and eye color to create intimacy and connection with the audience. Costumes from the music video are also used to remind audiences of the performance.
3) Lyrics and additional photos from the music video were included to further develop the artist's character beyond just a model and capture a sense of live performance. Conventions such as generic signifiers and lighting techniques were employed.

The document discusses how a music video for an indie pop song used several conventions of real music videos, including genre, star identification, voyeurism, lyrics and visuals, and locations. It provides examples of how each convention was implemented, such as using filters to establish the genre, close-ups for star identification, shots emphasizing the female form for voyeurism, matching lyrics and visuals, and varying locations to represent themes. Intertextuality and star iconography were not used. The promotional package for the song followed conventions for design and coordinated with the music video.
- The document discusses the evaluation of a music video created for the song "Rain Dance" by the indie band Modern Mafia.
- Feedback on the music video was generally positive, though some noted dark lighting made the band's performance unclear and scenes seemed repetitive at times.
- Ancillary texts like the magazine ad and DVD digipak cover incorporated the song/video's rain theme and received positive feedback about their design.
- New media technologies like cameras, editing software, and blogs were used effectively during the project's production and evaluation.
Our music video sticks closely to the conventions of EDM/house music videos through its use of a club-like setting with strobe lights, glow sticks, and costumes featuring black and white. It relates the lyrics to the visuals through the main artist's facial expressions and dance movements during certain parts of the song. The editing is done to match the fast tempo of the song. Inspiration was drawn from music videos like Disclosure's "Latch" for its narrative interpretation of lyrics, Calvin Harris' "How Deep Is Your Love" for its lighting effects, and Rihanna's "We Found Love" for its blending of narrative and performance elements. Overall, the video aims to capture the feel of a typical E
Our music video uses conventions of real music videos by illustrating the song lyrics visually and matching shots to the music. Binary oppositions of light/dark and ugly/beautiful represent the main character's inner turmoil. Shots alternate between composed and messy appearances. The video also features locations mentioned in the lyrics like a tennis court. Overall the video draws inspiration from real artists like Lorde to develop the style and image of our fictional artist Dakota.
The music video uses natural lighting and weather effects to enhance the artist's emotions and match the lyrics. Still images from the music video are used on the CD packaging and advert to familiarize audiences.
The CD packaging, advert, and music video all use a consistent black, white, and yellow color scheme. A location shot is used for the advert rather than a studio shot to link it to the CD packaging. Positive reviews from music magazines are included.
Fonts, symbols, and layouts are kept consistent across the CD packaging and advert to clearly associate all the products with the artist. Social media and online promotion would be used to advertise and interact with fans if operating in the real world.
1. The document describes a music video created for the song "Our Life" that was inspired by Ed Sheeran's music video for "A Team" and the film "Fishtank".
2. Equipment like cameras, computers, and phones were used to film different angles and settings, and edit effects, brightness, and pictures for the cd cover and magazine poster.
3. Black and white was used throughout to represent the dull and hopeless feelings of the characters, and pictures were taken in town to depict social realism for the cd cover and magazine poster featuring the artist.

our case studies of similar genres of the artist we chose made
this possible by look at the print products of artist such as Adele
it gave us good ideas on how we wanted our print products to
look.
The main image of our CD front cover is almost a replica of Adeles
21 album, which we thought was effective due to the nature of the
song we used, as the concepts of their songs are usually the same.
The simplicity of the print products of my case
studies such as Adele and Ed sheeran formulated
ideas for our group for our front cover for e.g the
plain and bold mask head that we’re used on the
front cover.
The main image on our CD cover was also very
much influenced by Adeles CD cover picture, as
you will see my from case study Adele is looking
down which creates a feeling of emotion,
emotion which reflects her music, so we wanted
to used a picture of Edward with a similar pose
to reflect his emotion and the genre of music he
represents.

3. For our magazine advert, the image we used
followed the same theme as the CD cover , where
Edward is looking away from the camera with the
same kind of expression, this idea was also used
from Adele and Ed sheerans Magazine adverts.
The layout and conventions of typical Magazine
adverts helped us to plan out ours, the quote that
we used was inspired by The Ed Sheeran advert
from my case study as we thought it would be a
good aspect to make the advert seem more real.
Some of the aspects of the ed sheeran advert are the
same conventions for e.g. the quotations are both at the
bottom, however in order to create better composition
we placed the heading and the album cover at the top.
The same way Ed Sheerans
name is written in the same
font for everything that is
being promoted of Ed
sheeran, we have used the
same font on the advert
that we have used on the
back of the CD cover.
4. Similarly Maverick Sabre’s ‘Lonely are the brave’ Album cover was also an inspiration for the layout and concept of our
CD cover, the dark colours used and also the image was also influence for a groups ideas on how we wanted our CD
cover to look.
This album cover was also a huge inspiration for the font that we used on our album cover. The font we used is quite
classic and plain, we thought that it would be a good idea to use a plain font as the back of the CD is quite busy. The
way we positioned the heading is also influenced by maverick sabres album, the heading is places at the top by
mavericks head we wanted to do this because we thought it worked for the album cover, and as we used a similar
image we figured that the positioning of the heading would compliment it.
5. Our back cover however doesn’t necessarily represent our case
studies as the ones on our case studies are typical back covers are quite plain,
whereas for our back cover we decided to use something more bright and
interesting as our front cover is plain.
The back cover which is mostly leaves with the song titles embedded in them
correlates with our music video as majority of it was located in a park, this shows
good continuity.
6. Our inside inserts of our print products also
demonstrate good correlation with our music
video as we have used a image taken from the
video of a swan, the use of this image also was
inspired by our case studies as it is plain.
7. Music video
In music videos there are a number of codes and conventions that are used to make
up a good video. Some conventions are used to distinguish a certain genre. There are
three areas that are used to break down music videos , camera, editing , mise en
scene and sound, All of these elements where influenced by the case studies we
produced for three different music videos all of which were hugely influential in the
creation of our video.
8. Mise en scene
The themes that we used in our video was very much influenced by j.cole- lost ones video. Both songs and
videos are about a couples who are going through things. In j.coles video the locations used are places that a
normal person would be located, most of the locations are link to places where him and his girlfriend spend
time together, since the video is about jcole and his girlfriend the use of location is relevant and makes the
video more real. We incorporated this into our video, for example almost all of the locations we used in the
video were places that Ed and his girlfriend had been together, also a lot of the times he was with his girlfriend
which made the story of the song and video easier to follow. The lip syncing in the video creates a close
relationship with the audience as they feel as if they know the artist.
9. Mise en scene
• Our video was made up of the present which shows how Ed is feeling now and flash backs which shows
how things used to be and what he is thinking about. The use of flashback were influence by The scrips
video ‘breakeven’, The movement between past and present in the narrative is a very post-modern
technique, where traditional structures are eroded. The video is very similar to our video in the sense of
the story of a failing/failed relationship and the artist thinking about the relationship once was. The use of
black and white used for the flashbacks is a action code according to barths theory saying that black and
white signifies the past. The use of monochrome in our video makes it clear of when it is reality and when
Ed is having a flash back, all of this idea was used from the scrips video.
10. Mise en scene
The main locations we used for our video here quite urban areas which gave the video a more
realistic feel, this was influenced by Ed sherrans video “A team” which has settings in urban areas
also. We wanted our video to be set in similar locations so that it actually has the Ed sheeran feel to
it. One of the main locates we used were Ed Is having majority of his flashbacks is in a park. A Ed
sheerans genre of music is pop/folk, we thought that this location would complement the song we
chose, also as the song is called little bird we thought it would be a good idea to have some of the
video set in a park because that’s where birds are located.
The clothes that we clothes for Ed to wear was chosen specifically to look like Ed sheeran, in the A
team music video when Ed sheeran appears he is wearing a hooded jumper, jeans and trainers, not
only the A team but I majority of Ed sheerans music video he wears casual clothes, so we decided
that Ed should wear similar costume for the music video to help him take on the persona of Ed
sheeran.
11. Camera
In the professor green read all about it video, shot reverse shots are used to create
the argument scene between a boy and his mother, this influenced our music video as
we decided that we also wanted to have a argument scene in our video. J.coles video
also has an argument scene which also expired our video, especially as the argument
is also between a couple.
The Flashback we used in our video, which was a handheld shot of Ed and Shantelle
(the girlfriend), was also influenced by Professor Green’s music video. This shot gives
was effective because it gives a effect that make the flashback feel more real.
The way the camera changes from Ed singing directly to the camera this is a mixture
between narrative and performance, where Ed is realistic, then he is a celebrity for
the performance bit, this shifts the narration between 3rd and 1st person, which is a
post-modern technique commonly used in music videos. This concept of the video
shows the audience that there are two sides to Ed sheeran the celebrity and the
normal guy, this allow the audience to feel closer to the artist.
12. Camera
Even though Alica keys wasn’t one of my case studies her music video ‘new
day’ was influencial for our music video. Her whole video consist of the lyrics
of the song being written in different ways I different places, we used this is
idea and decided to write some of our lyrics on pieces of white paper
surrounded with leafs. The leafs that we used to surround the pieces of paper
follows on the park theme that is used throughout our video and print and
digipack.
13. Editing
One of the videos that encouraged our editing for our music video was Ed Sheeran’s -
A team video. We incorporated a time lapse action code to connote time passing. As
the main focus of A team is for ed Sheeran to take more of a acting role, we tried to
use this idea In our video also with the use of flashbacks.
In the video we also have a part where we reverse all of the flashsbacks/memories
that Ed is having, this creates emotion because it represent all the thoughts going
through in Ed’s head.
Sound
Lip syncing in our video was very important to show the performance side
of Ed.
Also in other folk/pop videos we found that they had a lot of lip syncing so
we decided to incorporate this in order to follow conventions.
