Lip-Syncing
Lip-Syncing is a common convention with music videos.
Because of this we decided that we would stick with it
because it looks professional and gives you a lot more to
work with.
In the official music video about 80% of it is Lip-syncing and
in our video it is about the same.
Troubles With Lip-Syncing
The some “when I was a youngster” has a rapping verse in
it. This was a problem because to lip sync with this part of
the song would be hard as it would just look like a
mumble when it came to editing.
So what we decided to do was have the words come up on
a interactive white board and have a teacher “Explain
them” to the viewers.
Intertexuality
This is where our video differed from the official video for
“When I was a youngster” this is because we used a lot
of intertexuality in our video For example;
When I am using the white board during the rapping verse
When Andrew is using the MacBook Pro when he is
portending to be a business man
The introduction of the song where we used pictures.
How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary text
Poster
S Our poster for the song when I was a youngster is a
simple poster which first show Me , Andrew , Darcy and
Frankie being the main people in the group and the
poster relates to the song via the props we used.
S We took a picture of us against a brick wall which we also
down for our album cover. This connected the Album
cover and poster.
We included
Rizzle Kicks
record labels
logo
We added
reviews of the
single. We used
MTV because
they are a highly
respected music
Pictures show as
kids. As it relates to
the lyrics “When I
was a youngster”
The text
is the
same as
it was for
the
album
cover
The
background
was the same
as it was for the
album cover
We made sure that
people would know
when the single was
available. And made
a connection to the
album Stereo
Typical as well
Connection With Album Cover
and Poster
We made sure that our album cover and poster had a good
connection. We kept the same background as we did for the
album cover, also the text remained the same. We thought it
would be good that the looked alike because it shoes that they
are selling the same priduct.
Album Cover
S Album covers are used to show and sell the album itself.
The album will relate to the meaning of the album and the
song that are in it.
S Our album cover uses the meaning and the message of
Sterio-Typical which is Dreams/ Aspirations and
judgments.
Front Cover
In our album cover we are
convening four different types of
people
Frankie (Far Left) – Essex Girl
Darcy- “Chav”
Andrew- “Geezer”
Phalen (Far Right) - Geek
Mis-en-scene and our Album
Cover
Frankie (Essex Girl)- Frankie is shown as being an Essex
girl, People think of Essex girls of being in some way slutty,
showed this by dressing Frankie up with heals and a short
dress. Theses are characteristics you would think of if
someone said Essex girl. Also you would think Essex girls
to be overly confident you can see this by the fact she is
“Over Posing”.
Darcy (“Chav”)- When it comes to Darcy being shoe as a
“chav” we decided to dress her in jogging bottoms and old
trainer. Apart from her clothes we put her hair buinchies.
This hair style is seen in TV shows such as “shameless”
where “chavs” are portrayed. Another steriotype of a
“chav” is “Teenage Pregnancy” so we decided to give
Darcy are baby to hold.
Mis-en-scene and our Album
Cover
Andrew (“Geezer”)- A “Geezer” is someone that you
would mostly find in a pub watching football. To show this
wasn't particular hard as we just had to put Andrew in a
England hoodie and some jeans. A “Geezer” is also see
as being aggressive and mean. This is why Andrew is
seen with a stern look on his face.
Phalen (Geek)- To show me being a geek i chose to
wear a simple white shirt and glasses. What you
would see any geek in school. But what we also
decided to do was show that I was shy. I done this by
not making any eye contact to the camera.
Comparison of Our Front
Album cover and Rizzle kicks
front Album Cover
There are some similarities
between ours and rizzles kicks
album cover. And we done that
purpose. This is because as we
are “selling” the same some with
the same Genre some of the
characteristics of that song
should show on the albumSimilarities Differences
Text
On both albums you can see the “Artists”
We emphasise the fact that it is a urban
group as we are against a brick wall.
We have characters.
Back Cover
We stuck with the
normal conventions
of a album cover by
having the track
lists on the back/
Another
convention
we stuck
with was a
bar code.
But we also
made sure
that
numbers
would say
stereo
typical
S We decided to make sure that our album had a connection all
the way through, front and back. Because on the front cover of
our album we looked at how society view people. But on the
back we look at what toughs people are actually like.
S We did also follow other conventions that all other album cover
do E.g. Bar code and track listing. We were looking at keeping
the same font for the tack listing as we used for the “Rizzle
kicks” and “Sterio Typical”, but as the names are important and
in a smaller text it would of been hard too read with the graffiti
font.
Comparison between our
Front and Back cover
In out front cover of the album Frankie is seen as being an
Essex girl. Because people think Essex girls are stupid
and ditsy. We decided to make Frankies “Real Self” the
side that others don't see, and that was a student. We
used folders to represent her intellect and dressed her i
normal plane clothing.
Darcy was show as being a “chav”. “Chavs” are seen as
uneducated and people who give nothing back to society.
Because of this we decided to make Darcys character
want to be a teacher. You can see that she is a teacher
because of the common glasses that you would expect a
teacher to wear.
Comparison between our
Front and Back cover
On the front cover Andrew is playing a “Geezer”. We
dressed him in casual sport clothing. The idea of this
Mis-En-Scene was that people would think of him as
someone who would spend most of his time of at the
pub. Because of this you would assume that he would
have a job such as plumber or builder. So we decided
to show his as someone who is quite classy by
dressing him up in a suit. This would make you
assume he was a business man.
My character was shown as being a geek. The tucked
in white shit, glasses and shy stance was used to
show how was round other people. But on the back
cover I am shone as being a “Ladies Man”. You can
see this by the lipstick on my face, the un-tucked
top, styled hair and a some what vain/confident
stance.
How did you use media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages.
Media Technologies
(Research)
S To make sure that our music video was appropriate and
followed the codes and conventions of previous music
videos we had to look deeper into the music industry and
what had been produced before had. The man piece of
technology used was the internet. Websites such as
YouTube and Wikipedia gave me examples and facts
about music videos.
YouTube
YouTube enabled us to access music videos for the present to the first music videos made.
From looking at the first music videos from the 1920 which were very basic to the evolution
of music videos with Bob Dylan, Ah-ha and Peter Gabriele. In these videos we saw how
technologies such as CGI were starting to be used.
After looking at the old music videos we looked at videos that had recently been used. This is
where we got most of our ideas for our music video.
We then look at the music video for the song when I was a youngster. We done this so we
could look at how Rizzle kicks appealed to their audience. Also to make sure that our video
was in some ways original and that we didn't just take all of our ideas from the official video
itself.
Wikipedia
I used Wikipedia to see how music video were filmed (specifically
of our genre of music) E.g is CGI was used. Location.
The main use of Wikipedia was to look at background information
on our chosen artists Rizzle Kicks. We had to look at how old
they were and how big they were. This information then
corresponded with YouTube. We found the videos of Rizzle
Kicks songs and took note of the style of there videos.
Media Technologies (Planning
Stage)
During our planning stage there want much technologies used as
a group we were all ready quite friends. But one main bit of
technology we used was our iPhones
iPhone
We used our phones constantly to communicate with each other.
This allowed us to plan where and when we would meet for
filming at let us ask friends outside of school to help us.
Media Technologies
(Evaluation Stage)
When evaluating for our music video there was many
programs that we used. Theses programs aided us with
making the questionnaires and the physical filming of the
question
Microsoft Word
To make the questionnaires Andrew used Microsoft word. The questionnaires were vital
to find out what should be put in our video. It let us please the viewers that we
would of got.
Excel
When the results of the questionnaires came back excel was used to show a visual
representation of the answers. Graphs showed any dramatic lean towards any part
of the questions.
Fujifilm SLR CDM1
We used this camera through the whole of our music video tasked we used for filming.
But we also used it for the filming of our audience feedback. The Feedback let us
find out what our target audience wanted from our music video.
MacBook Pro
Instead of using the iMacs provided in school Frankie had a
MacBook Pro. This allowed us to edit our music video and
evaluation question part two outside of school. This came as
an advantage as we were able to focus on other items such
as the Album cover and Poster.
iMovie
iMovie allowed us to edit our evaluation question to allowe them
to loo more professional.
