2. COMPUTING :
Definition – What does Computing mean?
Computing is the process of using computer technology
to complete a given goal-oriented task.
Computing may encompass the design and
development of software and hardware systems for a
broad range of purposes - making intelligent systems,
and creating and using different media for entertainment
and communication.
3. IMPACT OF COMPUTING ON HUMANITY:
Overall, a computer is one of the famous and great
inventions in human history.
Negative Impact
This technology is likely to cause more harm to humans
and the environment, it does not only make humans lazy
but it also damages them mentally and physically.
The way computers are being programmed to do a job,
due to too much use of technology humans are being
programmed as well without being aware of it.
4. IMPACT OF COMPUTING ON HUMANITY:
Positive Impact
There are positive impacts as well, such as saving time,
increase in knowledge and multi tasking gets jobs done
at once and make life easier.
Living without a computer is nearly impossible for many
people around the world. Today if the use of computers
stopped than basically the earth stops.
Almost everything today to communication to designing
a new model of some sort is done by a computer.
Life without a computer is nothing; people are too
depended on them now
5. IMPACT OF COMPUTING ON HUMANITY
RELATING FROM IT TO CS TO SE:
IMPACTS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ON SOCIETY:
The ongoing computing and communications revolution has numerous economic and social
impacts on modern society and requires serious social science investigation in order to
manage its risks and dangers. Such work would be valuable for both social policy and
technology design.
Today, innovations in information technology are having wide-ranging effects across numerous
domains of society. Choices made now will have long lasting consequences, and attention
must be paid to their social and economic impacts.
One of the most significant outcomes of the progress of information technology is probably
electronic commerce over the Internet, a new way of conducting business. Already, it affects
such large sectors as communications, finance and might expand to areas such as education
and health services.
6. 1. BUSINESS MODELS, COMMERCE AND MARKET
STRUCTURE:
One important way in which information technology is affecting work is by reducing the
importance of distance. In many industries, the geographic distribution of work is
changing significantly. Firms have greater freedom to locate their economic activities,
creating greater competition among regions in infrastructure, labor, capital, and other
resource markets
Although setting up and maintaining an e-commerce web site might be expensive, it is
certainly less expensive to maintain such a storefront than a physical one because it is
always open, can be accessed by millions around the globe, and has few variable
costs, so that it can scale up to meet the demand.
7. 2. WORKPLACE AND LABOUR MARKET:
Computers and communication technologies allow individuals to communicate with
one another in ways complementary to traditional face-to-face, telephonic, and written
modes. These technologies utilize communication infrastructures that are both global
and always up, thus enabling 24-hour activity and asynchronous as well as
synchronous interactions.
Social interaction in organizations will be affected by use of computers and
communication technologies. Peer-to-peer relations across department lines will be
enhanced through sharing of information and coordination of activities.
the importance of distance will be reduced by computers and communication
technology also favors telecommuting. As workers find that they can do most of their
work at home rather than in a centralized workplace, the demand for homes in
physically attractive regions would increase
Since most telecommuters would be among the better educated and higher paid, the
demand in these areas for high-income and high-status services like gourmet
restaurants and clothing boutiques would increase.
8. 3. EDUCATION:
High level skills are vital in a technology-based and knowledge-intensive
economy. Changes associated with rapid technological advances in
industry have made upgrading of professional skills.
The goal of lifelong learning can only be accomplished by reinforcing and
adapting existing systems of learning, both in public and private sectors.
The demand for education and training concerns the full range of modern
technology.
Information technologies are uniquely capable of providing ways to meet
this demand. Online training via the Internet ranges from accessing self-
study courses to complete electronic classrooms
9. 4. PRIVATE LIFE AND SOCIETY:
The rapid increase in computing and communications power has raised
considerable concern about privacy both in the public and private sector.
Nobody knows who currently collects data about individuals, how this data
is used and shared or how this data might be misused. These concerns
lower the consumers’ trust in online institutions and communication and,
thus, inhibit the development of electronic commerce. A technological
approach to protect privacy might by cryptography although cryptography
presents a serious barrier to criminal investigations.
People spend more and more of their time absorbing irrelevant information
just because it is available and they think they should know about it.
Therefore, it must be studied how people assign credibility to the
information they collect in order to invent and develop new credibility
systems to help consumers to manage the information overload.
10. IMPACT OF COMPUTING ON HUMANITY
RELATING FROM IT TO CS TO SE:
IMPACTS OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
ON SOCIETY :
1.SOLVING PROBLEMS AND IMPROVING
SOLUTIONS:
We all know that technology can help solve
problems, but it can also improve solutions. Our
society is constantly seeking ways to do things faster.
11. 2. PROTECTING PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATION:
Individuals making purchases online and storing information on their computers,
phones and tablets need to be assured that their information is safe.
Every organization - no matter how big or small - leaves a digital footprint, which
means they also need digital protection.
Digital Footprint
“A digital footprint is a trail of data you create while using the Internet.”
It includes the websites you visit, emails you send, and information you submit
online.
12. 3. FURTHERING EDUCATION:
Can you imagine modern education without computer software or the Internet?
Whether taking a class online, researching for a paper or sharing work via the cloud,
computer scientists have made this possible. And now computer science is leading
the way in bringing quality education into spaces and communities that were
previously underserved.
"You can surprisingly do a lot of good from sitting behind a computer!"
13. 4. IMPROVING COMMUNICATION:
Similar to education, it’s hard to envision communication without the many
luxuries that computer scientists have provided us.
We can send emails from our phones, video conference with friends or family
overseas and connect with politicians, celebrities and philanthropists .
Social networking has not only helped people connect with one another, but it
also serves as a platform for individuals or groups to rally others for a good
cause.
Social networking applications for example:
whatsapp
facebook
zoom
14. 5. ORGANIZING AND STREAMLINING PHILANTHROPY:
You may not physically be out in the field rescuing animals and feeding them, but
you may help facilitate that by creating a platform that allows these interactions
and adoptions.
Even though you may be working at a desk or coding at home, your efforts
expand far beyond your office walls.
15. 6. POSITIVELY IMPACTING EVERY AREA OF SOCIETY:
Social Impacts
Email,texting,video conferencing,cloud computing
artificial body parts,e-commerce,
Global Impacts
Information Access
Peer-to-peer networks-bit torrent
proxy servers
digital certificates,copyrights
16. IMPACTS OF SOFTWARE
ENGINEERING ON SOCIETY
Today, software is all around us.
In 2008, the number of personal computers in the world surpassed one billion; as
recently as December of 2013, experts estimated there were 1.4 billion
smartphones in use.
Each of these devices is organized by an operating system, a very complex piece
of software with many interrelated functions. However, that only scratches the
surface of what software does.
17. IMPACTING ON DIFFERENT SECTORS
Software is used by businesses to communicate worldwide.
MEDICAL
It is used to operate some of the most complex medical machines.
The ability of physicians to communicate instantly with colleagues helps medical
practice.
Computerized medical diagnostic machines such as CAT scans and MRI equipment
are also beneficial.
Cochlear implants have restored hearing to thousands of profoundly deaf patients.
Robotic manufacturing is cheaper and sometimes more precise than the manual
construction of many complex devices.
It regulates nuclear plants, electrical grids, and other utilities that provide the
basics of life.
Of course, it is also behind the safe operation of more than 31 million commercial
airline flights in the U.S. each year
18. Other Aspects
SOCIAL ASPECTS
Software also helps make life convenient. For example, computer software has made
it easier than ever to connect with friends all over the world using social networks.
DOMESTIC ASPECTS
As software becomes more integrated into electronics and appliances, it will continue
to simplify life’s challenges. As an example, everyone is familiar with how much easier it
is to drive from point A to point B thanks to on-board GPS software.
• Refrigerators can now notify owners about spoiled food;
• lights around town and in your home can brighten when they detect you walking
in the dark;
• sites can make suggestions and record your favorite shows based on your
preferences.
19. FUTURE ASPECTS:
Whatever the future holds, it is a good bet that software will remain a very
important part of it. As computer software becomes more sophisticated, it will
help people with more complex challenges.
In the future, software may even help us to regulate and improve our own
bodies!
Today’s wearable technology and implanted medical devices are just the
beginning of what the next generation of software can do.
