This document provides an agenda for the PTAG imPacT 2016 conference taking place on Saturday, April 16th. The day-long conference will include sessions on payment policies, social media, implications of new legislation, use of ICD-10 codes, ethics discussions, and balancing career and family. There will also be networking opportunities with sponsors and special events including a business meeting, panel discussions, and an Oxford-style debate on residency training. The conference aims to educate physical therapists on current issues and allow for discussion.

The modernization of the Georgia physical therapy practice act improves patient access to physical therapist services, revises
the definition of the scope of practice for physical therapy and expands and strengthens term and title protection.The passing
of legislation 2015 Georgia HB 505 has important implications for Physical Therapists and patients allowing an earlier point of
entry into the healthcare system.The extent in which direct access is being used and promoted by physical therapists in various
healthcare facilities will be discussed.The panelists will provide a brief overview of the legislative status of HB 505 and will

Ethics & Healthcare Reform: A Panel Discussion 0.125 CEUs

Widespread distress over reform of the American health care system crosses political affiliations and ranges from corporate
concern over costs to union concern over benefits. It increasingly affects the middle class that makes up a growing percentage
of the uninsured.The value propositions involved in healthcare reform include access, financing, cost containment, and
allocation of care, as well as health disparities that require remedies beyond what the health care system can provide.There is
strong support for a universal coverage system from a range of widely held views in bioethics, including those focused on rights
and fairness and those concerned with consequences.This discussion will focus on the ethical decisions that we as physical
therapy professionals have to make during this time of changing healthcare values and system wide changes.
The format will model Schwartz Rounds Sessions, in which after listening to a brief presentation of a case or topic, participants
will be invited to share their perspectives on the case and broader related issues.The panel will present cases and questions
that have been submitted by participants prior to the discussion.

Navigating the Rough Waters of Medicare Payment in Outpatient Therapy: Strategies for Today & Tomorrow 0.15 CEUs

Medicare is in a constant state of change and outpatient therapists must keep up with the latest trends in order to be
successful in this increasingly difficult regulatory environment. This Roundtable discussion will be targeted towards upcoming
Medicare payment initiatives such as Comprehensive Care of Joint Replacement Model, ICD 10 impact, outcome measures and
changing compliance requirements. Participants will discuss the current impact of these policies and strategies for succeeding
in the Medicare environment for today and the future.

Oxford Debate: Should Residency Training be Mandatory for Physical Therapists?

The second annual PTAG Oxford Debate at imPacT 2016 will feature a lively, insightful, heated, and often humorous debate
between two teams.The Oxford Debate is modelled after an 1860 debate at the Oxford University Museum after Charles
Darwin published The Origin of Species. Each team will attempt to persuade you to support their opinion for a pre-determined
motion.Audience members will interact with the panelists and try to sway the audience through clapping, cheering, and moving
from one side of the room to the other to show their support (or not)! Don’t miss this fun-filled, good-hearted debate.The
teams will present the best argument for their side of the debate, however not all statements made by a speaker necessarily
represent the true opinion of that speaker. Join us for the Oxford Debate and show us “Who you are for?”

Christopher Brechtel, PT, MBA, GCS, CSSGB LSVT BIG provider is a licensed Physical Therapist with over 17 years of clinical
experience and over 11 years of management experience. In addition to managing his own business providing Mediation Services,
education and program development consultation, Chris is the Long Term Care Rehabilitation Manger for a large Hospital system. He
provides professional education across the country through his own business and has also been a speaker for Summit for over 2 years.
Chris has extensive experience developing multidisciplinary teams to maximize care to the geriatric population in a variety of clinical
settings. He has dedicated his career to working with seniors and strives to not only improve his abilities, but also encourages others to
provide optimal care to this special population.
Olabisi Brown, PT, DPT graduated from North Georgia College and State University in 2001 with a Master of Science in Physical
Therapy. She completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Alabama State University in 2009 and received her Biofeedback
Certification in Pelvic Muscle Disorders in 2010.
Dr. Brown has worked in home-health, skilled nursing as well as outpatient rehab where she started the pelvic floor rehab program at
Piedmont Hospital. In 2012, Dr. Brown opened Atlanta Pelvic & Orthopedic Rehab Center. She has found her passion for physical therapy
in addressing musculoskeletal deficits throughout the body, particularly emphasizing the hips & the pelvis. Her clients are diverse in race,
gender, ethnicity, and payment sources.
Olabisi is married and has 3 sons. She enjoys reading, traveling, and going to the theatre. She is active in her sons' schools & Boy Scouts,
as well in her church.
Perry Brubaker, PT, DPT is a wife, mother, and senior dog caregiver. She also happens to hold a license as a physical therapist and
maintains a small practice in her free time.
She holds a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from North Georgia College and State University and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy
from Alabama State University. Dr. Brubaker has published in the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, lectured both at the
state and national level, and is active in her professional organization.
Perry’s true accolades include maintaining a fulfilled marriage, parenting a lovely daughter, getting in a daily walk with her rotten golden
retriever, and providing meaningful physical therapy care to her patients.
Brad Freemyer, PT is the current owner of A Step Ahead Physical Therapy, founded in 2007. He graduated from Georgia State
University in 1988 with a BS in Physical Therapy. He has been practicing Physical Therapy for over 25 years in a variety of settings
including SNF, outpatient, acute care inpatient, home health and as the Director of Rehab at Baptist Medical Center Cumming/Northside
Hospital Forsyth. He served on the Georgia State Board of Physical Therapy. He is a member of the PTAG Legislative Committee that
was instrumental in lobbying for Direct Access in Georgia. He is a guest lecturer at Georgia State University (2013-Present).
Kevin Gohman, PT, MBA graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s physical therapy program in 1994. He is currently
the Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation Services at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Gohman has worked at NGMC for since 1997 as a physical therapist, working in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, at New Horizons
North and West and in acute care at NGMC’s Main Campus. Prior to coming to NGMC, Gohman worked at LehighValley Hospital in
Allentown, Penn. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Shippensburg University, his master’s degree in physical therapy
from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and his master of business administration degree from Brenau University.
Gohman and his wife,Valerie, live in Buford with their two children.
Patrick Graham, PT, MBA is the current President and COO of The Human Performance & Rehabilitation Centers, Inc. (HPRC). He
was named to this position in 2007. HPRC is a 56 year old family business that is in three Southeastern states and has approximately 170
employees with 18 locations. Lines of service include hospital contracting, out-patient clinics, school contracts, home health, nursing
home contracts, orthotic & prosthetic company as well as EMG & intraoperative monitoring service.
He graduated from Medical College of Georgia in 1989 with a degree in Physical Therapy. He began practice with HPRC, Inc. (formerly
Rehabilitation Services of Columbus, Inc.) in 1990 as a staff physical therapist. He attended the executive MBA program at Kennesaw
State University where he graduated with an MBA in 1996 with a focus on Family Business and Entrepreneurship. In 1997 he was named
Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of HPRC, Inc.
His professional associations include two terms as vice president of the American Physical Therapy Association Private Practice Section
(APTA-PPS), past Board of Directors PPS-APTA, past member of the APTA Federal Government Affairs Committee, past 3 term delegate
for the State of Georgia to the national APTA House of Delegates (National Governing Body of the Association), current member of
PPS-APTA Government Affairs Committee. Patrick is a frequent speaker on compensation plans for private PT practices and hospital
contracting formats as well as a frequent contributor/author for industry publications.

Bruce Greenfield, PT, MA (Bioethics), PhD is an Associate Professor in the Division of Physical Therapy and the School of Medicine
and Senior Fellow in the Center for Ethics at Emory University. Dr. Greenfield is a well-known physical therapy educator and qualitative
researcher. He serves on the APTA Ethics and Judicial Committee, and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Physical Therapy
Education and the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy.At Emory, Dr. Greenfield is a member of the Emory University
Hospital Ethics Committee. For many years, Dr. Greenfield was an orthopedic clinical specialist and edited two text books on the
rehabilitation of the knee and shoulder published by F.A. Davis. His current areas of research are exploring the use of narrative and
reflection in clinical practice, and exploring ethical reasoning and ethical issues in clinical practice.
Allen Haynes is the Director of Public Relations for Duffey Communications. He specializes in strategic vision for clients by researching,
planning, communicating and implementing campaigns utilizing best practice public relation principles and tactics to achieve both short
and long-term client success. He is a graduate of the University of Florida.
Robbie Leonard, PT is an experienced clinician and administrator and has served as an educator in multiple settings nationwide.
Robbie is currently theVP of Regulation and Business Development for the Medical Billing Center. Robbie is the current chair of the
SCAPTA payment and policy committee and serves on the Payment Policy and Advocacy Committee of the APTA.
Jim Lewis, PT, DPT, ATC is an Associate Professor at Brenau University. His educational background is BS, Education, University of
Georgia, 1988; BS, Physical Therapy, Georgia State University, 1990; and DPT, Physical Therapy, Boston University, 2007. Dr. Lewis has been
practicing Physical Therapy for 25 years in the out-patient setting. His experience includes a focus on orthopaedics and joint related
injury of the spine and extremities. He has 12 years of experience in management including overseeing the startup and operations of
three clinics. He began his teaching career at GSU in 2010 and in June of 2014 he took a position with the Department of Physical
Therapy at Brenau University teaching gross and functional anatomy, musculoskeletal disorders, radiology and professional issues.
Research interests include cadaver studies as related to clinical orthopaedic pathologies and prevention/wellness in physical therapy
practice.
Daniel Miller, MSPT, MBA has practiced for the past 19 years in variety of settings including Acute,Trauma, neuro, LTAC,Wound Care,
and for the past 8 years, Home Health Care. He currently serves as theVice President of Therapy Services with Amedisys Home Health,
supporting over 3500 therapists across the country. He has been involved in practice guidance, operations oversight, clinical education
including continuing education courses on balance and wound care, as well as EMR development, testing and implementation with a
strong focus on regulatory guidance and quality measures.
Mitzi Nash, PT, DPT graduated from Georgia State University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science and Certificate in Physical Therapy. In
2013 she received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Montana. She holds her dry needling certification in the
state of Georgia. Dr. Nash has been active in her professional organization throughout her 22 year career.
In 2003 she ventured out of her corporate physical therapy practicing Administrator role to open Nash Physical Therapy Providers. She
and her therapists currently provide contract therapy services to outpatient facilities in metro Atlanta and its surrounding counties to
enable clinicians to take time out of their clinics and know confidently their patients will be well-treated.
RM Barney Poole, PT, DPT, ATC is known as an educator, clinician, and volunteer to his colleagues, patients, and community. His
accessibility has been a hallmark of his role in the physical therapy profession.
Dr. Poole is president and owner of Performance Physical Therapy of Stockbridge and McDonough, GA, an outpatient orthopaedic
physical therapy private practice. Prior to that, he was physical therapist/corporate director of the Atlanta Division of the Human
Performance and Rehabilitation Centers, associate professor of anatomy-physiology at Columbus State University, and a teacher, athletic
trainer, and coach at Glenwood High School in Phenix City,AL. He earned a BS in physical therapy from Georgia State University, BS in
biology from Columbus State, and MEd in secondary education in biology, also from Columbus State and earned his Doctor of Physical
Therapy degree from Alabama State University in 2009.
A Physical Therapy Association of Georgia (PTAG) chapter member for 32 years, he has served the chapter as president, vice president,
parliamentarian, program chair, chief delegate, and delegate. In 2001, he was electedVice Speaker of the American Physical Therapy
Association’s (APTA) House of Delegates (HOD) and member of the Board of Directors and served two terms, during that time he was
instrumental in designing and implementing the Local Area Network (LAN) system used to track and expedite HOD motions, improving
the flow of business during House sessions and was an early advocate of electronic voting in the House.As chair of the APTA Task Force
on Public Awareness and Public Relations, Dr Poole provided active mentoring to his constituency, keeping them informed of APTA
services available to chapters and components.As a clinical teacher and faculty member, Dr Poole serves on the advisory committee of
Mercer University and participates actively in the support and education of PT students as adjunct clinical faculty for Emory University
Department of Physical Therapy. In addition, he is known as a physician educator, helping them assess musculoskeletal injuries and
appropriately refer patients to physical therapy.
Dr Poole is the recipient of APTA’s Lucy Blair Service award for distinguished service to the profession of physical therapy. In 2011 while
servicing as president of the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia Dr Poole established a Leadership Academy to promote leadership
opportunities in physical therapy and in the community and in 2014 PTAG named the academy in honor of Dr Poole.

Janet Shelley, PT, DPT is the CEO of Medical Billing Center (MBC). MBC specializes in billing for outpatient therapy. Janet co-founded
MBC in 2001 following the sale of a large regional private practice.While in private practice, Janet participated in oversight and
management of independent therapy offices, hospital joint ventures and facility management contracts. She is past President of the South
Carolina Chapter,APTA and currently serves on both State and National Payment Policy Committees.
Brian Taglieri, MS, PT, DPT, MTC, CSCS has practiced in Georgia for 15 years in outpatient setting and currently works as a Multi-

David Taylor, PT, DPT, GCS is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Mercer University, in Atlanta
Georgia. Dr.Taylor received his B.S. in Psychology in 1988, Master of Physical Therapy in 1992, and Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2004
from Emory University. In 2015, Dr.Taylor completed a Certificate in Health Focused Patient/Client Management for Physical and
Occupational Therapists from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has been a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Geriatric
Physical Therapy since 2001. Dr.Taylor’s clinical practice included acute and post-acute care, including the skilled nursing and home health
settings. Dr.Taylor’s teaching responsibilities include health promotion, geriatric physical therapy, falls prevention, service-learning, clinical
education, and healthcare systems, payment, and policy. He provides consulting services for peer and utilization review in geriatric post-
acute care settings. Dr.Taylor was the recipient of the 2014 Lynn Phillippi Advocacy for Older Adults Award from the Academy of
Geriatric Physical Therapy.
Teresa “Tess” Vaughn, PT, DPT, COMT, OCS graduated from North Georgia College and State University in 1996 with a Master of
Physical Therapy. She received her advanced certification in orthopedic manual therapy in 2004 and completed her Doctorate of Physical
Therapy from Regis University in 2009. In 2010 she earned her orthopedic specialist designation.
Dr.Vaughn has presented nationally on the spine and is a book reviewer for the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy. She is
currently the Education Chair for the Orthopaedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association.
Tess opened Medical Rehab Services, outpatient physical clinic, in 2005. It is her goal to provide exceptional care to her community and
her hometown.
John Wallace, PT, MS has over 30 years of experience in private practice orthopedic physical therapy and in a variety of other settings
including acute hospital, acute rehab, home health care, skilled nursing, subacute care and outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine. He
currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for BMS Practice Solutions, Inc. He has been an invited speaker on the topics
of California Workers Comp, reimbursement, practice management, compliance, and rehabilitation economics nationally. John is a former
is a former member of the Board of APTA Directors and Finance Officer of the California Physical Therapy Association.
