WK3 Final Project Framework Worksheet
Keyada Stackhouse
The Immigrants is the topic that I have chosen as my final
research.
2. Events
Event 1: 1877 to 1945
Event:
The Act of Chinese Exclusion
When: When did the event happen? Did it happen on a specific
date? During a specific decade?
The Chinese Exclusion Act occurred in the year 1882, May 6.
Where: Where did the event happen? In a specific city, state,
or region of the country? Throughout the country?
This Exclusion Act occurred throughout the United States.
Who: Who were the main people involved in the event? What
specific group of people was involved? Are there specific
individuals associated with this event?
The Activist named Denise Kearney was the one protesting at
the Chinese laborers where he claimed that they were competing
unfairly with the white laborers. This act targeted the specific
Chinese immigrants and it placed a duration of 10 years
restricting the Chinese from entering the United States
(Soennichsen, 2012).
Why: What events or issues contributed to this event
happening?
Among all the groups that migrated to the United States, the
Chinese faced the most intense nativism. Majority of the Asian
immigrants who entered the United States from the California
Angel Island were treated with severe restrictions as well as
prejudice. If the immigrants from China were to leave America,
they had to obtain certification to re-enter, and the American
Congress denied the court right to give citizenship to the
Chinese immigrants.
How: How is this event historically significant?
The Chinese Exclusion Act expired in the year 1892, the
American congress extended it for the next 10 years in the form
of a Geary Act. It became permanent in the year 1902. Hence,
resulting to the American Congress face quotas on the amount
of the Chinese immigrants to get to the United States. In the
year 1943, the American Congress repealed all exclusions, and
the Chinese migration limit was set to 105.
Event 2: 1877 to 1945
Event: The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
When: when did the event happen? Did it happen on a specific
date? During a specific decade?
This Triangle Shirtwaist Fire occurred in the year 1911, May 25
Where: Where did the event happen? In a specific city, state,
or region of the country? Throughout the country?
The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire took place in a Factory in New
York.
Who: Who were the main people involved in the event? What
specific group of people was involved? Are there specific
individuals associated with this event?
Mostly young children and women as well as approximately 500
immigrants were the ones caught in fire. Hundreds of
individuals died and others got injuries. An activist by the name
of Rosenfeld Freedman escaped and was able to survive the fire,
he later joined a movement which changed the inhumanity of
industrial system for the next generation (Lieurance, 2010).
Why: What events or issues contributed to this event
happening?
The Triangle Shirtwaist fire was as a result of unsafe working
conditions since there were no emergency exit, also, it is said
that all the employees were locked in the building to ensure that
they were productive.
How: How is this event historically significant?
The Progressive reformers as well as the Activists came
together protesting the condition found in the Triangle
Shirtwaist factory, they were able to enforce safe working
conditions across the United States.
Event 3: 1945 to the present
Event:
The Immigration Act of the year 1965
When: When did the event happen? Did it happen on a specific
date? During a specific decade?
This Act occurred in the year 1965, October 3.
Where: Where did the event happen? In a specific city, state,
or region of the country? Throughout the country?
The 1965 immigration Act happened throughout the America
Who: Who were the main people involved in the event? What
specific group of people was involved? Are there specific
individuals associated with this event?
Both the Africans and the Asians immigrants were allowed
passage to the US without the quotas, this ended the restriction
which was once enacted by the American Congress. This
increased the migration of Caribbean and Latinos islanders
(Marcus, 2012).
Why: What events or issues contributed to this event
happening?
The 1965 migration Act resulted to a chain migration from
Africa, Asia as well as the Middle East which shaped the
American society literally.
How: How is this event historically significant?
This migration Act was able to remove all prior migration
restrictions thus creating a new doorway for the immigrants to
move to the United States.
Event 4: 1945 to the present
Event:
The Rising Arizona: Anti-immigration law.
When: when did the event happen? Did it happen on a specific
date? During a specific decade?
The Anti-Immigration law occurred in the year 2010 April.
Where: Where did the event happen? In a specific city, state,
or region of the country? Throughout the country?
This Act only took place at Arizona, US
Who: Who were the main people involved in the event? What
specific group of people was involved? Are there specific
individuals associated with this event?
It was mainly targeting the non-whites, hence allowed the
officers who enforces law to stop anyone looking suspicious and
inquire about their status of immigration. Because of the border
which runs from the state of Arizona to Mexico, Mexican
became the main target (Jacob, 2013).
Why: What events or issues contributed to this event
happening?
It resulted to the human smuggling and the transportation of
illegal immigrants.
How: How is this event historically significant?
The legislature had created an essential profiling concerns but
the immigrants were forced to acquire and provide
documentation of their legal status.
3. Sources
APA Citation for Primary Source 1:
Soennichsen, R. (2012). The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.
Calif: Greenwood.
Annotation for Primary Source 1:
It speaks about a decade banned place on the Chinese by the
American Congress due to the competition of labor and work
against the whites. The Chinese were demanded to re-submit
their documents for them to enter the United Stated again and
there were risks of being deported. This source has been used in
discussing the past immigration laws that were faced by the
Chinese. It has provided me with the evidence to support my
thesis.
APA Citation for Primary Source 2:
Lieurance, S. (2010). The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. Berkeley
Heights: Enslow Publishers.
Annotation for Primary Source 2:
This article has explained the disaster of the Triangle Shirtwaist
factory. It has further emphasized on the hardship which was
endured by the immigrant children and women as well as the
suffering they had to overcome for them to survive in the so
called the land of opportunity.
APA Citation for Secondary Source 1:
Marcus, G. J. (2012). The Administration of Justice.
Washington: U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Annotation for Secondary Source 1:
The author has explained in details about the consequences
related to the passing of the immigration and how it affected the
American society. After the restriction was removed, majority
of the Americans became mad. The author has also explained
how immigrants greatly contributed toward the American
society. This sources has really helped my thesis by confirming
the struggles and the truth and also the immigrant’s
contributions to the society in America.
APA Citation for Secondary Source 2:
Jacob, M. M. (2013). The State of Arizona. Tucson: The
University of Arizona Press.
Annotation for Secondary Source 2:
The author has explained how the 1965 immigration rule gave
the law enforcement officers the power of stopping any
immigrant and demand for the identification and if the person
was not found with the required documentation, they become
the subject to deportation. This law caused non-whites’
discrimination, especially the Mexicans because of the
increased number of illegal aliens. This article has helped me to
support my thesis as I flashback on the discrimination back in
the years 1900s up to date as well.
Thesis:
It is a dream for every immigrant to live in America, a dream
that sometimes needs a lot of sacrifices as well as suffering to
accomplish. Immigrants faced injustice treatments, hard labor as
well as racial discrimination but they never gave up on their
dreams. They fought their ways thorough the hardship and they
stood strong despite all the discrimination and suffering. In my
paper, I have discussed the for major events that the immigrants
suffered and has continued to suffer, such as The Chinese
Exclusion Act, The Immigration Act of 1965, The Immigration
Act of 1921 as well as the Arizona Anti-Immigration
Legislation of 2010. Fromm my opinion, America will always
require the immigrants because they are the hardest hard
workers and they take pride of what they do still holding to the
belief that America is the land of opportunity.

The Chinese were demanded to re-submit their documents for them to enter the United Stated again and there were risks of being deported. This source has been used in discussing the past immigration laws that were faced by the Chinese. It has provided me with the evidence to support my thesis.

  • 6. the years 1900s up to date as well. Thesis: It is a dream for every immigrant to live in America, a dream that sometimes needs a lot of sacrifices as well as suffering to accomplish. Immigrants faced injustice treatments, hard labor as well as racial discrimination but they never gave up on their dreams. They fought their ways thorough the hardship and they stood strong despite all the discrimination and suffering. In my paper, I have discussed the for major events that the immigrants suffered and has continued to suffer, such as The Chinese Exclusion Act, The Immigration Act of 1965, The Immigration Act of 1921 as well as the Arizona Anti-Immigration Legislation of 2010. Fromm my opinion, America will always require the immigrants because they are the hardest hard workers and they take pride of what they do still holding to the belief that America is the land of opportunity.
